Ghost Worlds and Transfers Guide

Free transfers are now available from our former 32-bit game worlds to our 64-bit game worlds! These transfers continue the work we began earlier in 2025, but the 32-bit game worlds themselves have undergone some adjustments. This article will explain what a “ghost world” is and how to transfer to our current 64-bit game worlds.
Free transfers from our 32-bit game worlds to our 64-bit game worlds will continue for at least two years, through October 1st, 2027.
What are “Ghost Worlds”?
“Ghost Worlds” are a term we are using to describe a mostly-closed game world that you can still log into. This is different from what we call “Dark Worlds”, which are worlds that you cannot log into but can still transfer from through our Transfer Wizard.
You can log in, access your account storage, character bank, crafting storage, inventory, guild chests and other systems you need to organize and prepare for character transfer. However, questing, obtaining quest rewards, interacting with some NPCs, and further character progression is largely not available. The purpose of a “Ghost World” is to get you in a position to transfer to an open game world, so you should not expect to be able to wrap up anything in-progress. Character creation is also unavailable on these 32-bit game worlds. These “Ghost Worlds” will have a low concurrent player cap as well, so if there is a lot of activity on these worlds you may encounter a queue. We reserve the right to temporarily ban accounts that are found AFK or engaged in activities not related to transfer.
We have created an extensive guide that answers all of your transfer questions in a separate article on DDO.com. Please read the larger transfer guide for answers to most if not all of your questions about favor, storage, name conflicts, guild transfers and more.
Here is a short version:
How do I transfer?
- Prepare: Get your character ready to run the /transfer pack command on your origin world.
- Pack: Type /transfer pack to pack your character while inside of the Lordsmarch Bank in The Marketplace. You can only pack your characters from the Lordsmarch Bank in The Marketplace. You can type /transfer list to see what has been packed.
- Transfer: You will transfer through the game launcher. Once you have logged into the game client with your user name and password, press the “Transfer” button then follow the steps to select your characters and destination world. The transfer itself typically takes no more than a few minutes, although heavy demand can increase transfer time significantly.
- Unpack: From the Lordsmarch Bank on your new 64-bit game worlds, type /transfer unpack to unpack your stuff. Everything you have packed will be unpacked. If you are a guild member and your guild has not unpacked on your destination world, everything except for your guild information will be unpacked, and you will receive a failure message indicating that you will need to type /transfer unpack again once your guild has been unpacked.
Where do I go?
You have three U.S.-based worlds and one EU-based game world to choose from:
US:
- Cormyr
- Shadowdale
- Thrane
EU:
- Moonsea
You may have further questions about your Monster Manuals, Favor, Reincarnation Cache and more. Please see our full guide to character transfers on DDO.com for answers to these and other questions.
