    Default U48 Preview 2: New Named Loot

    Hello all! Below you'll find a nearly-complete list of the loot found within the Feywild Expansion. There are several moving parts here and a lot to go over, so let's dive right into it with a whole bunch of Loot Facts!

    Loot Fact 1: Items in Feywild will be using the same internal scaling that items in Sharn do. You will not experience a numerical jump up in power going from Sharn -> Feywild loot (not directly, at least). What this means is that items that give a bonus to, for example, Strength, will give that same bonus to Strength in Feywild as they did in Sharn. Feywild Raid Loot will be of the same power level as Raid Loot in Sharn and the U47 raids, and Feywild Artifacts will be of the same power level as other Artifacts. This means that it's entirely likely that you will be using some Sharn loot as well as some Feywild loot, owing in part to Loot Fact 2:

    Loot Fact 2: Legendary Items in Feywild (excluding weapons) will drop in one of four total set bonuses: Spring, Summer, Fall, or Winter. These set bonuses are not like the other at-cap set bonuses you may be used to: These sets will contain a total of 15 items, and you'll only need 7 of them to get the last set bonus. What this means is that the set bonuses work like Filigree sets do: they start out with a bonus for having 2 pieces of the set, and then an additional bonus for 3, and then 4, and so on until you reach the final bonus at 7. That being said, it's entirely likely that a player will only aim for 5 in a single set, or several 2-set versions of all 4 of the new Feywild sets. These set bonuses will NOT stack with the Sharn or Ravenloft set bonuses, so you'll be using these to fill around gaps and shore up weaknesses in your character rather than a singular build-around for the playstyle you're looking for.

    Loot Fact 3: The Artifacts in Feywild are in two Feywild set bonuses at once. So yes, things just got a lot more complicated.

    Loot Fact 4: Heroic items in the Feywild pack are all part of one, all-seasonal set bonus, so there's a lot less complication when you're trying to get gear at level 5.

    So, with that out of the way, let's examine the benefits and other implications of this approach:

    • A lot of the feedback I've been noting over my years on the project is that the Sharn and Ravenloft sets are far too restrictive in their slot choices. Players tend to like the raw power of these sets, but they limit the freedom of our fabulous gearset builders just a tad too much, hence the repeated feedback in that direction. This is swinging - hard - in the other direction. My hope is that this kind of slot freedom will allow for a lot more active choice when it comes to endgame play, gear-wise.
    • A lot of other feedback I've also been noting is that the power jump from Ravenloft to Sharn disrupted a lot of players' gear farming routes and stepped on a lot of content. We're trying something different here - an expansion pack without an ilevel boost - and if we can manage to build enticing gear without an ilevel jump, I think we should. But, that's what this kind of early feedback is for: If you feel differently, now is the time to let your voice be heard.
    • This approach means that if you're going for a full 7 set in a season, you'll need to find space for less than half of the available items. This means that if one or two of the items don't really pique your interest, that's fine. There's more than enough to choose from. This turns into a huge benefit on my end as well. With the knowledge that not all items will be used by all players, I can fine tune niche items for niche playstyles far easier. If I wanted to build an item specific to something super specific - for example, build an item that any Air Sorcerer would drool over - I'm less worried that players will be forced to build around it for its set bonus.
    • Finally, I feel this approach also lets me get far more weird with the actual items themselves, thematically. You're going to see subthemes within Seasons - Dead Leaves within Autumn, rainstorms within Spring - and I do hope you'll expect the truly unexpected when you finally approach the details of the items themselves.

    Glad you changed the Impact V to Keen V but Manslayer sticks out like a soar thumb here. It doesn't belong on a raid weapon. Sovereign Vorpal would be a better choice. Heck, Metalline or Aligned would even be better.

    I am really sorry to say I am deeply disappointed with the changes to Spring and Summer set bonuses. With the way key bonuses have been back-loaded (Melee Power, Doublestrike) they are now only valid alternatives to Sharn sets if you go all the way to 7 pieces, and there is no hope of stacking both to gain equivalent power to Sharn. I cannot imagine a build that could use anything short of 7 pieces of Spring without a full Sharn set for back-up.

    Yes, you might now dip into one of Spring or Summer plus the Family's Blessing set from Sharn, but if that is the only viable use for these then it completely invalidates the desire to offer a more flexible set of slots and mix/match.

    If doublestrike/melee power were brought back down to the 3 or 4 piece level, splashing some new with some old, then we could have a set up where Sharn vs Sharn/Feywild combo vs Feywild total were all viable and offered different approaches.

    The balance wasn't right between old vs new effects in Preview 1, but this alternative if worse.

    Default Some very general feedback...

    Overall the 2-4 piece sets look good. They combine fairly well with sharn sets, and only slightly conflict with U47 sets. The 5 piece being only +3 bonus to abilities is a reasonable change, but makes it less compelling.

    I don't see many reasons to use the 7 piece sets though. Both Spring and Summer are missing key dps abilites that the 3 piece sharn set provides. Winter can't compete with LGS hp for tanks. Autumn may have some uses i suppose...

    Further alternative suggestion (sorry for double post):

    Could the Spring/Summer sets provided a lesser amount of Melee Power/Doublestrike at a lower level? Say add an artefact bonus of 10 or 15 Melee Power to Spring 4-set (as 3% dodge cap isn't that exciting all on its own), and then 25 Melee Power for 7? As they don't stack you'd get a lesser bonus for less investment but not be sacrificing it entirely, while still rewarding 7 pieces overall.

    Hmm, still no support for Insightful Devotion and no means of getting Insight/Quality/Enhanced Repair Amp or Repair skill.

    Also, I will reiterate that 10% Exceptional Spell Lore/+20 Exceptional Spellpower is lower than what the Sharn armors/robes are. These should be bumped 15/30 and the Legendary Enigma Core in Sharn should also be bumped for consistency. That absolutely seems like a bug.

    I am confused. The Seasons sets received a pretty negative feedback during preview 1 and you made them worse by lowering +4 all stats to +3 without changing the items or adding more items to make the sets actually accessible without using several items of low value.

    I hope I am overlooking something here. During preview 1 I was pretty certain I would not be using the Seasons sets and now I am even more certain. What gives?

    - Where is the Medium armor in the Autumn set?
    - Where are the extra 5 items in each set with non-niche effects (in particular Nearly Finished ability slots) to make it feasible to use the sets?

    I had great hopes that you would do well based on the feedback during preview 1 so I am really confused that it seems you simply made the set bonus worse with none of the needed improvements.

    I'm really liking the idea behind a more flexible gear set but I'm having a really hard time slotting Enhancement/insightful/quality int/wis/cha on the set especially when I need to use 7 slots just for the set effect. Would it be possible to give us some options to at least have 1/2 effects like you did for the melee set please

    This trinket is really cool but it's so weak. I really like the quench effect but I was wondering if it would be possible to remove one of the effects beside quench and replace it with enhancement cold/electric spellpower. As it is right now it's *very* weak for a raid item (a gain of 20 or so spellpower because insightful and quality values scale much lower + quench for an entire slot) and if you try to slot the autumn/winter artifact belt you can't use the ravenloft belts which are the only non-weapon item to have the enhancement bonus. Having enhancement spellpower on the trinket would make it a lot more valuable for cold/electric spellcasters because right now there's just no reason to lose TWO-HUNDRED spellpower for what is basically just quench.

    I do like this trinket. That said, I only see 4 pieces that I would even use including this trinket (bracers/ring/boots). I can't use the belt below personally, because I have the cornerstone champion, which gives me superior reinforced fists. If you can add something that has Superior Reinforced Fists, that would really be nice

    So I looked up the name: Vernal Equinox. Which is the sun is directly over the equator so day and night are the same time length. Wouldn't it be fitting to give it an effect based off of its name?
    For example Day and Night (Night and Day sounds better though) a rotating buff while the weapon is equipped (like the elemental spiral). Day: 9d8 light/holy damage on attack for 1 minute. Night: 9d8 evil/untyped damage on attack for 1 minute. Could replace Ranged alacrity 25%!

    Looks like U48 is getting the U47 treatment. For fear of "Power creep", you instead choose to make (mostly) useless items and no progression at all.
    At least in sharn we got Minor artifacts (along with better items). Now we're getting augments which is a side-grade mostly (let's you fit items easier). An entire expansion, and I'll be surprised if top end increases by 5%.
    I know you don't want power creep in your items (good choice), but at least add a system where we get *some* power with the update. In preview 1 at least there were some viable alternatives to sharn (with some key features being front-loaded), but now the sets are just strictly worse sharn sets. But at least it's flexible, woop! (however flexible 7-item sets are....)

    Unless something huge is coming out of the augments, we're looking at fitting another 10% fort pen (from 25% set instead of 15%), and an easier +2 profane. That's pretty much the extent of the power increase we'll see here. Except for hybrids which, granted, are looking fun and nice.
    And as far as expansions go, this one is looking mighty lackluster.
