Let's Investigate Dull Dagger!

Okay, we know that The Blood Of Vol has a connection to it, we also know that Asheron's Call also had a weapon called Dull Dagger!

The Suspense is killing me, please help test!

1-Perhaps a dagger wielding multiclass between alchemist and cleric built to use that dagger while doing the vol religion might do something? Maybe this dagger is a way to help people accept that strict requirement for using that alchemist spell that requires divine class levels?

2-What if this item can be imbued with power similarly to the Emerald Claw Trinket via the shrine at the end of the Mark of Death raid?

3-What if this weapon is effected by the enchantments in the temple of Amber?

4-What if there is an NPC that will upgrade this weapon just by talking to them?

5-What if this weapon improves when specific filigrees are added to it?

6-What if this weapon changes based on your monster manual progress?

7-What if there is a hidden stone of change recipe for this?

8-What if the vial of blood that the flavor text on the epic locus of vol contains has something to do with this?

9-What if the activation conditions are bugged and I have been wasting a lot of time?

10-Would a vampire shroud pale master favored soul build be able to unlock the secrets?

11-What happens when you use this dagger to attack enemies in the Mark Of Death raid?

12-Is there any effect when killing silver flame people in the orchard?

Taking a break from the Dull Dagger investigation for now, TRd into a bard. Note that the "Lesser Favor of Lady Vol" get's removed when equipped by a class without deity feats, so it seems unlikely that the secret would be tied to reincarnation.

Some speculation on my part: If the secret is tied to lore it's probably better to try to find the answer in Eberron content, since Vol is tied to that setting. I doubt that the secret is have x of deity class multiclassed with x class. Also the wording of the Lesser Favor of Lady Vol implies that Vol is the one who will reward us for our faith, so it seems like we should do something for her, or maybe just please her by following the tenets of her religion.

One thing that i wanted to try out was to pvp with another vol worshipper with the dagger, because the 4th edition's players guide said "Meet with others of The Blood of Vol to share in the power of each other's blood."


Compiled list of thing's i've tried so far as a pure halfling paladin with all deity feats, dull dagger equipped at all times except for when i'm scrolling or ranging:

Quest stuff:
Ran offering of blood(epic).
Ran co6.
Ran amber temple(epic) and got the vampyr buff. Wasn't able to kill hireling, killed shadow then /death.
Litany of the Dead, all paths.
Completed Desecrated Temple of Vol(epic).
Ran Church and the Cult


Lore stuff:
Killed venerated mummies in faithful departed, cause undying court.
Gathered Vol missives in Orchard(epic)
Killed a khorvaire elf with undying court and dragonmark in pvp.
Killled dragons in: Mired in Kobolds, Black and Blue, epic Tor.

Feat/class stuff:
Child of Faith and Beloved of the Divine.
Soldier of Faith and Initiate of Faith
Did a racial reincarnation, cause heart of blood, into a chaotic neutral cleric with all related feats on lamaland. No change upon inspection nor when i equipped it at lvl 30.
Picked a dragonmark feat and all dragonmark enhancements, cause vols tied to the dragonmark of death.
Reborn in light used.
Multiclass wizard for all undead shrouds in lamaland.
Lesser tr with it equipped.
Lawful Good Halfling 20 Paladin
Lawful Good Halfling 15 Paladin 5 Wizard
Chatoic Neutral Human 15 Cleric 5 Barbarian


Item stuff:
Bound and Adamantine Ritual 1.
Upgraded Emerald Claw nugget to tier 4.
Added 5 blood feast filigrees to it.
Tried combining it with Locus of Vol in a stone of change. Also tried to combine it with Demon's Blood, Bloody Scarab, Vial of Dragon's Blood Ink, Blood of Dragons, Powdered Blood, Bloodfeast Fungus.
Tried using rage with 5 blood feast filigrees slotted into the sentient jewel that's in the dull dagger, as a 15 cleric 5 barb. Also used blood tribute during this, had blood is life, rage shield and blood tribute triggered simultaneously.
Used Twisted Talisman's blood sacrifice. Could be location specific so have it saved for now.
Slotted endless night augment.
Slotted Globe of imperial blood augment.
Equipped Gloves of Immortality.
Equipped Locus of Vol and used "Sight of Vol"
Equipped Blood's Bellows shield.
Equipped Epic Emerald Guard/Epic Death's Rampart.
Equipped Epic Emerald Gaze.
Equipped Epic Fanged Gloves.
Equipped Token of the Faithful.
Equipped Boots of Faith.
Equipped Bloodrage Chrism.
Dual wielded with Legendary Dagger of the Liturgist.
Dual wielded with second Dull Dagger.
Dual wielded with Divinity, the Morninglords Goal
Equipped The Blood Stone

Raid stuff:

Killed blood spirit optional in strahd's castle.
Summoned and killed Varney the vampire in the Eerie forest.
Sacrificed myself on the altar in lost at Sea.
Killed some fey, because it's got cold iron.
Tried stacking 5 death penalties, in "a sharn welcome"
Talked to Maxon in house D and Verisgante in house J.
Killed silver flamies in orchard of the macabre(epic)
Looked for changes as i procced bleed effects, with vistani vorpals.
Tossing it into the Fountain of Necrotic Might.
Various emotes to it inside the desecrated temple of vol(epic).
Drank a Shield of Faith pot.
Dolurrh: The one in desecrated temple of vol and the one in pop.
The Maruts in the Epic Orchard, chose information as a reward.

Same as i did on my monk but i've also tried taking a dragonmark feat and all dragonmark enhancements, cause vols dragonmark of death, something something.
Also ran some shadowcrypt to upgrade the emerald claw nugget, because emerald claw is a faction that worships vol. Nothing changed though.

Should add that divines with vol as a deity get a new property on the dagger saying "Lesser Favor of the Lady Vol: "I will reward your faith.""

Pure paladin, kotc capstone and t5 enhancements.

New things i've tried: equipped together with locus of vol, no effect. Added all blood feast filigrees, no effect. Flagged for mark but haven't run it yet. Also tried combining locus of vol and dull dagger in a stone of change.

Perhaps the Secret has been Forgotten?
Edit: As in try inserting a globe of true imperial blood?
To bad the filigries aren't doing anything, perhaps a Timid sentient jewel can do the trick?

Tried with bloodrage chrism, nothing. Vistanis proc bleed on vorpals, nothing happens to the dagger though as far as i can tell.

There is an emote tied to praying in the game and there is a quest that takes place in a temple of vol maybe investigate that?

I'm pretty sure we can eliminate the Stone of Change. There was a conversation sometime ago with Lynnabel about it, and with more than 1000 recipes developers shun touching it lest they break something.

I would look at the Fountain of Necrotic Might in Upper Necropolis for a unpublished upgrade recipe.

Maybe cleric domains trigger a response. Perhaps Destruction due to the release of shifter at the same time, or Death since it best fits the Dolurrh lore around Vol. Maybe War, if the dagger has melee properties.
