    Thumbs up Hi

So is it still frowned upon to say Welcome immediately after Hi? ‘Cuz that was rough getting out of that cube after all these years.... No need to be swallowed a second time in the near future!

It depends on the purpose. If the purpose is to insult someone, then it remains against the rules. For random nonsense reasons, it's fine.

    Phew. Thanks Cordovan.

Well, the "Love the way we say Hi, (Welcome)" Eminem parody only insulted a Moderator Idol (The Green Cube), but it was deleted strongly by Tarrant. I'm 99.9% it was not an attack against anyone that actually exists in this real world or these forums. :-)

If there's any way you have access to that twice-deleted parody, Cordovan, I would love to know if I can have it back. I wrote it literally only on the forum, and did not recreate. It was quite funny and an ode to the banning of Hi, Welcome as a greeting.

    Moving on....

Also turns out there was something else that got me banned, way off-base. It was pokemon reference, someone got upset about, but I don't think it was an attack or meant to hurt their feelings. For what it's worth, I'm sorry! Detective Peekachu was awesome! I'm pro-pokemon.

And with nearly a decade of self-growth, I doubt I want to pursue re-engaging with any shenanigans. I can't believe I'm even typing here, honestly. It's nice to see some familiar people are still here, I hope you're well during the pandemic.

So, hello there. You are welcome to say Welcome (back) or just Hi, or just Welcome, to me in this thread.

The definitive Arkat is still definitive. Nice to see you too.

    Thanks for posting this.

LOL.. I did not even know the “Hi Welcome” thing could be an issue.

These would only be words to me until now and I never would have thought those words to be something negative : )

I had to look it up…

    https://www.urbandictionary.com/defi...m=Hi%20Welcome

    Hi Welcome
Internet meme started in the Dungeons & Dragons Online MMORPG first and then refined (mostly in form) in the DDO Forums.

The definition is hard to quantify.
Some would call it a "slam" or some sort of "snarky" reply.
While that can be true it is much more subtle than that.
It's meaning is more of a feeling than anything else.
How can one possibly define Love adequately?
They can't, of course, and likewise, no one can adequately define Hi Welcome

    Form:
Just to review the form quickly, it should always be written with a capital H and a capital W.
    No punctuation is permissable either.
It should always be written - Hi Welcome and no other way.
If you're writing it in another language (and assuming the language has capital letters), only the first letter of each word should be capitalized and again no punctuation is used.
The lone exception to the "only the first latter in each word is capitalized" rule is for the Chinese form not written in characters.
In this case Ni Hao HuanYing is correct.
This is due to a peculiarity of the Chinese language.

    Here is one example:

Someone (most likely a n00b or a known forum jackass) has just given a long forum rant displaying a lack of experience, social adeptness, and most of all...intelligence.

    You reply with: Hi Welcome

In this particular case it may mean, "Allow me to welcome you both with my literal words and with an active display of how much you fit in by being tone deaf, dumb, and uncritical of your babbling myself.
Because anyone able to engage your arguments would rip them to shreds, the most sincere welcome you can get is from someone unwilling to do so as demonstrated by their simple vocabulary and punctuation and seeming lack of thought put into the response."

err.... This might get my welcome back thread shut down.

Any chance of an edit to at least remove a couple words in the quote?

For me as someone for whom the English language is a second language, this "Hi Welcome" seems to evade some kind of meaning ... I vaguely sense that this sentence might imply a bit more than what's on the surface - like with the "you're welcome", which, literally translated, as it is often done with Learning Newbies - might imply nothing but a "you are welcome to my home" after letting someone, most likely a friend, in.

To me, the "Hi Welcome" seems to imply nothing but a sincere "welcome to my home", like in this example from above, and I just can't / fail to see any negativity in it. Which might result in people not liking me anymore because I don't do the expected reaction.
"You are a Tiefling. And a Cleric, with the Domain of the Sun. Doesn't that contradict each other ?" "No, all my friends are playing evil. I found that so boring that I decided to be on the good side. And, besides, Sun and Fire, where is the difference, really ?"
