People don't care what your standards are as far as "acceptable" goes, they care about their own standards. SSG has seriously decreased the amount of server resources they put towards powering instances, which has always resulted in locked up raids and now the problem has been persistently creeping into more and more explorer zones and standard quests. You can say "everything's fine, it's playable for me" all you want, but everyone I was playing with 6 months ago is gone now, mostly due to lag issues over last 6-7 months and lately last one was due to U45 nerfs.

Default Don’t expect any changes to lag for the next 6 months

Isn’t 20% of the world population sitting in quarantine? Shortly none of us will be playing online games, world internet breaks...game over dude the worse is to come.

It happened a few times. Once inside Red Raids - later in the public area in Sharn. Another groups was standing beside us - just as lag locked.
The day before it happened in the Estar public area.

It happens daily, it happens everywhere, though some places (Thunderholme and THTH) seem more prone.

Lag has been an issue for many years now, and if it was an easy fix, I think the devs would have fixed it by now. The thing that amuses me is the people calling for server merges. The increased population at this time that is due to the freeplay is the perfect example why a server merge would be disaster and would likely make the game unplayable. This past weekend was almost a disaster for me, had multiple lag issues and deaths due to the lag, and even rubberbanding which I havent experienced in months. This game simply cannot handle too many players at one time. Old game code, sub par servers? I dont know, Im not a I.T. guy for SSG.

Simply consider that others who are experiencing lag complain rightfully because it is in their case server lag.
I also dont claim you lie or have no clue if you dont report lag...
And I can give you a possible logical reason for the fact that you might not experience lag while playing solo but others have bad lag when they do quests as a group.
If you have more players in a group you usually agro more monsters at once and therefore the monster AI has to deal with more monster player interactions in general.
e.g. the monsters have several players on their aggro list and have to decide which player they attack.

Maybe I have a selective perception because of my (hopefully well-founded) opinion that the monster AI in DDO has a general issue but in my opinion, also the sign that solo playing causes in general less lag is related to the fact that less AI use reduces the chance that one or several calculations related the monster AI go horrible wrong and then cause extraordinary server load.
And in that case, one monster can maybe cause more server load than normally hundreds of such calculation would.

Another possible source is that something with a player character can maybe go horrible wrong this means the server is maybe sometimes not able to calculate the character attributes or something correctly and this causes lag on the server with the result the whole group experience lag
Also, this would be the only server related and nothing on the player's/client end.
One sign of this is that I sometimes have my group reported me that bad lag was suddenly gone right after I logged my character out (after the character was effectively removed from the server)

Another sign is that sometimes horrible lag almost instantly stops after the whole group is dead this can be a possible sign of the monster AI and the player character calculation theory if not both.

But once again I'm only a player and see only the surface but a developer might have the right ideas when he hears about the symptoms.

Default Good for the most part..... But!

I have been around in DDO land for quite a few years, used to play a lot but not so much these days.
Previously I noticed lag in the usual raids or Thunderholme that we expected and learned to live with, but never enjoyed
I have however noticed increased instances of lag - partying or even running through public places solo - rubber banding and frozen in place.
I used to think lag was over reported for trivial - but still annoying moments. Now it seems to be more prevalent or I'm copping it more - I don't raid much anymore so can't comment on those instances...

Ae have had those issues for a good deal longer than a few weeks, so it predates the Covid-19 outbreak. While it may or may not be worse now please do not try to explain the issues thus.

It seems like they are trying to do to much with to little. We have updated to 64 from 32 yet the lag is worse. It appears that running the Die Hard and Events at the same time create huge problems. Maybe if they spent a dime on advertising the game before they did something like die hard they could afford more server space and speed.

64 or 32 bit doesn't have much to do with server lag though...

The client change wasn't about server performance, it was about client stability. The 32 bit client will get unstable once it's around 1.7GB in memory, which is super easy to get to, 64 bit client doesn't have these issues.

Server performance issues is something that's been around for years, the recent situation just exasperated it. Unfortunately the code developers aren't going to be able to do much about that as its likely a architecture / design issue with how they handle client connections. I suspect this because while we are under the effect of Mass Hold Player and unable to interact with the game, the monsters have zero issues interacting with us and do so with abandon. That tells me the instance server isn't resource constrained but something else in front of it isn't handling our input commands. Also when the Mass Hold Player effect happens, it tends to happen to lots of people on the server at the same time. I'm on discord with guild mates, all doing different quests at different levels in different places, and we all experience the Mass Hold Player effect simultaneously. Instance server issues would be sporadic and random, effecting different groups of people at any one time, not a server wide Mass Hold Player.

It all went downhill fast after moving the DDO serverpark to the same one as LoTRO

good for you, i had to completely stop playing last night because for 30 minutes i could not move due to server latency. the rest of my party had the same.

if they are renting servers they are doing it wrong. Doing hard Core has no impact on advertisement of the game.

I get the feeling just throwing more resources at better, newer, fancier servers wont magically solve the issue. I reminded of the days of star wars galaxies and its infamous memory leak

Yet another day, yet another group with game breaking lag - several times in different quests.

Why even log on when playing is not really possible? Ran 4 quests - had one or more rounds of 15+ seconds complete cannot-move-or-do-anything-at-all lag in every single quest. Logged off in sadness.

Last 2 weeks were such a nightmare lag wise I postponed my main TR spree.

But last 24 hours were good, suspiciously good.

I agree. Since they played around with the servers it changed to the worse. Lag became consistent. Last week before the last shut down lag was minor, since, the worst ever I have experienced since 2012. I was playing with a little skip here and there, like an old record and the song is still recognizable, now songs are being skipped completely. The game is becoming unplayable and is upsetting me and causing anger instead of release. I killed my subscription until I see what they do to fix it. The SSG gestures have been nice about open play..... but if the game doesn't work......they will lose people anyway.

This is because you are just an awesome person and therefore you can play DDO with a brick and it works just fine! (sarcasm alert is tingling)
