    Default A Ranged Ranger - U45

Other than some changes being made to IPS what else is being changed specifically for the Ranger class that is a Ranged Ranger, i.e. Arcane Archer?

What I know and no need to comment. IPS will be altered for anyone that uses ranged combat not just Rangers.

What may be rumors or truth please comment for Rangers ONLY:
    - Is damage output per successful hit being altered per target?
    - Is there some change being made to longbows or shortbows?

    Thanks in advance.

At the end of the day, in U45, Ranger is going to be the "go to" class for archers. With the changes I've seen over in the Lama forums, you're going to have to choose between T5 DWS, or T5 AA, and you're going to want to spend feats on Dodge, Mobility and Shot on the Run, which will be easier on a Ranger, since they get a lot of the ranged feats for free anyway. U45 is a net gain for Rangers, if they don't mind T5 DWS, anyway. There's a 13% animation increase in attack speed for all bows, which sounds great, and will be great, on Rangers, for the aforementioned reasons, but won't do a lot to help any other class that may want to utilize Elven AA, since they won't have access to the more juicy bits of the update, since they're locked behind T5 DWS, which requires ranger, or behind feat requirements for Shot on the Run, on a build that may already be feat starved.

All ranged lose some damage on IPS but Bow users gain some attack speed to compensate. Classes with lots of feats may gain the most attack speed, and DWS gets some extra perks, especially if you use Archer's focus. Monkcher will still be highest DPS bow user in epics when they have TTS up. Unclear how close they will be to Mech/Inq, I haven't seen any numbers, and they are very cooldown dependent to begin with.

No need to play ranger during/while/@ update 45, they are dead. long live alchemist. on a serious note, not much changes for AA they sucx then, they sucx now even more after U45, AA only has paralyse going for them, only helpful with boost for falcaonry tree to wisdom. All the changes that might benefit them didtn happen as they all been (erm....erm.. boosted to DWS)... Might was well wait till update 4x to update 7x (maybe around 2035 or infinity), dont hope on AA. Just GIVE UP AA

Bows are getting some love this update, but I still dont think it'll be enough to become competitive with Inqui, Shuri, GXB, and now Dart/Throwing Dagger for ranged builds. They'll still be too slow in terms of shots/sec to be able to take advantage of flat-damage effects...AA still gives much poorer imbues than Inqui or Alch or EK...the opportunity cost is still much higher.

I think the only bow build that's substantially changed in U45 would be a 20 FvS Silver Flame Elven Archer. They can now go full WIS build without needing Falconry for a trance, Favored Weapons are getting a small boost, and the upgrades to bow speed should help with landing more Paralyzing Arrows, though the IPS changes still hurts their raw DPS. But a 20 FvS inqui will still blow it out of the water for pure DPS, that's purely a group-support CC specialist.

You've always had to choose between T5 DWS and T5 AA. That's how T5's work.

If T5 AA was so much better than T5 DWS to the point that it was not even considered a choice, well then bringing them closer in power is good. Choices are good, build variety is good.

    The changes specific to short-/longbows:
    • Base animation speed for Shortbow and Longbow attacks have been increased by 13%.
    • The Feat "Shot on the Run" now grants a 10% Alacrity bonus to Shortbows and Longbows.
    • Ranger: Deepwood Stalker's Heavy Draw no longer reduces Attack by 5 when toggled on, and now also grants a +1 Competence Bonus to Critical Multiplier to Longbows and Shortbows while toggled on.
    • Ranger: Deepwood Stalker's Improved Archer's Focus now also adds 10% Insight Bonus to Ranged Alacrity with Longbows and Shortbows when you have Archer's Focus active.

So: the base rate of fire for all bows improves and DWS tier-5 gets even better for archers. However according to some posters SotR doesn't stack with Ranged Alacrity bonuses from gear; if so, SotR is of limited use considering the 3-feat cost.

Arcane archer would only be better if T5 gave lvl 12, your AA clickies spend %50 less mana and recharge % 25 faster now. lvl 15 %70 less mana and %35 faster recharge now. lvl 20 %90 less mana and %50 faster recharge now.

Additionally cores: Core lvl 12+1 to threat,

Core lvl 18 +2 to threat. You now get a tiny animal summon that distracts the hostile npcs. It does apply aoe Intimidate and extra threat on self vs hostile npcs. When it dies it is resummoned automatically in 30 seconds.

(Additional cores could be applied to several other races and classes who are not casters. Deepwood stalker could have more options. This would be very valuable for Rogue class through UMD and social skill bonuses which would also upgrades the summon Lvl 12-18 Rogue Heroic)

Context is key. Variety is very good, however, U45 kicks it to the curb. I'm aware of how T5s work, but U45's changes do more to pigeonhole you into ranger, et al, if you want to actually use a bow, which is closer to a response to the thread that the OP was looking for. FvS AA is locked out of the majority of "improvements" to ranged, no access to DWS, and if one wanted to be a bit of FvS along with their archer, feats are an issue for SotR. Forcing archers into preset classes is the opposite of variety.

    What I get from U45:

So I get 13% animation speed - everyone gets with bows
10% speed from Shot on the Run - will replace some feats
30 ranged power - with new Archers Focus

this is as a non ranger AA, so no access to DWS

    Single target DPS only.

    -20%/- nerf to AoE DPS.

Better on bosses, worse on trash mobs, in a game that is significantly skewed content wise toward trash mobs. This update might get us invited to raids more often in a DPS role. Still have to compete with the other builds that are already good for that though, as well as the new throwers and now new class about to happen.
