    Default returning player, sentient items?

i know I'm not a new player but i haven't played in about a decade so i thought i'd still qualify for asking questions. i quit years ago after achieving what was then the height of class ambition and finding it utterly pointless. i made a thorn lord. best bow in the game they said, blah blah. it's a worthless piece of squid ****. it looks just like vender trash and it isn't even as useful as most actual vender trash. it doesn't do nothin. it doesn't even hit very hard. but here we are a decade later and supposedly i can take some of the stink off this piece of trash by giving it sentients. they said it's not really pointless to give a trashy thorn lord sentients. i can always feed it to something that's actually worth using without losing any sentient exp.

problem is, it doesn't work... i even restored it and wiped out the exceptional strength jewel it had and it still wont take this zephyr filigree junk i looted. i put the squid sht in the upper left hand box of the sentient mod thing. then i put the zephyr filigree in the upper left box, but it just pops back into my inventory. if i try putting the filigree jewel in the left box it just tells me what i already know. it tells me my thorn lord is a stupid piece of squid sht.

so ***? do i feed it items to give it enough exp to have a jewel slot but cant because it has no sentients? is the zephyr jewel just not a cool enough jewel? i dont get it. how does this work. ddowiki isn't much help. fail at step 4.

The heroic version of Thornlord won't accept sentient gems. The epic version (L20) will. I can't exactly tell by your post which one you have.

If you have the L10 heroic version, it can be fed to a sentient item/gem and will provide 10 sentient xp.

Now the way it works with epic (L20 and higher) items is first you drag the item to the sentience slot on the right hand side of your inventory, which brings up a popup of the item. You place a sentient jewel at the top (right hand side I think, not in game - going by memory).

EDIT: You start with a single empty filigree box at the bottom left. Then you feed named items (any level 1-30) which provide sentient xp (or sxp). At 2000 sxp you will see another empty slot appear at the bottom, this is where you place your 2nd filigree. At 6000 sxp you gain a third slot, where you can place another filigree. Again at 12,000 sxp you get a 4th, at 20k sxp a 5th, etc.

Note that the item you want to add a jewel or filigree to (or feed other named items to) must be unequipped before you can drag it into the sentient modification box on your inventory.

My take on "the grind": https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthrea...=1#post6220972

Ordinary humans have inhibitions that serve as a buffer against what we know is bad behavior.
However, some people, by blaming others for their own bad behavior, develop a thought pattern that allows them to override self-control in order to achieve a selfish end.
    - My opinion on exploiters and cheaters blaming SSG for unfair punishment.

OKay I reread your post and it looks like you are on the right track. The jewel itself goes in the top right corner as you stated. The zephyr filigree goes in the bottom left box. Feeding it named items for sxp go in the middle right box.

Also Epic Thornlord is pretty decent with the expanded crit range, it will carry you through lower epics well enough.

no it's very pathetic. it's barely more useful than a silverbow ml6. its complete void of being anything useful is cemented by the fact it lacks any effects what so ever. the crit range is piddly compared to a gs lightning strike bow until very late in character development and still only 1d10 better than a silverbow. but +8 you say? you pretty much have to take enhancements that make any bow +8 just to be slightly capable with a bow in the first place. it's just as meaningless a piece of trash as it ever was. it's only use to me now is that i can feed it items to make exp so i can feed it to something else later. i prefer an unwavering ardency for later anyway, that way i can still have undispellable blur while running away from mobs half my level.....

maybe i should just go back to my hobby of crushing democrat candidates. it's a good hobby and very easy. beats being trolled by pederasts of the coast all day.

Most builds using longbows are behind the power curve right now anyway. Crossbows are the ranged weapon of choice. Mostly heavy crossbows combined with the Inquisitive Enhancement tree. You might be able to convert your current build as many classes work fine with the Inquis tree and enhancements are easy to redo. Then the Ratcatcher crossbow is supposed to be king even in epics, and can be farmed from the Threnal chain.

deflection, none of that justifies the thornlord's gaping hole of suck.

so what you're saying is that the zepher thingy isn't the jewel i need to open the thornlord's hole of item devouring?

    okay. i can handle that.

I am just posting on here trying to assist, I'm not for or against Thornlord. I am passing what I hope to be helpful information.

Right the zephyr is a filigree and goes in the bottom slot AFTER you place a jewel in the top right.

You can get a free jewel in Ravenloft after running the first quest. A guy in the wilderness up the road from the Tavern gives it to you along with a L29 free weapon.

Also, this is important, those who said you could then feed the Jewel from the Thornlord to another Jewel are correct - BUT - you will need to destroy/remove any existing filigrees you place in Thornlord and the REMOVE the sentient Jewel itself. The Jewel will retain it's SXP, but removing it requires a Sentience Toolkit (Store Item or rare drops possibly).

To remove filigrees requires the same, but in most cases you are better off just destroying the filigree (unless rare) which can be done by purchasing a Sentience Destroyer from a couple of various general vendors.

It's not an endgame bow, but at level 20 it's a great piece to have. If you are level 20 or TRing back through that range then use it, if not then farm something better.

why 'farm" something better? a thornlord is a sick and twisted farming endeavor and fully was the supposed "end game bow" comparable to ess. it was not. it sucked back then and it still sucks now. just use a ml6 silverbow. at lvl 20(truly disgusting) it's just as good. or use an abbot bow. far far easier to get than thornlord and better at everything. ml14. epic thornlord is and always was ridiculously difficult to attain vender trash.

rly, dont wonder why so few play this game anymore. just dont.

if epic thornlord were ml12, it would still be vender trash.

nope that just destroys sentient jewels... actually it reads like it destroys the jewel by destroying the item..... i think it was written poorly.

To remove an augment you need a Jeweler's Tool Kit. These can be purchased from the DDO Store (surprise surprise, right?) or rarely obtained from a silver/gold roll. They are unbound, so you can also occasionally find them on the AH.

Due to the cost of JTK, unless the augment is really nice, it's usually not worth removing just to feed an item to a sentient jewel.

Before i left, i either trashed the item with an augment by selling it, or leaving it in the chest to annoy party members.whenbasjed about it, i called it intentionally broken by the devs and that i refussed to pick up the tab for their mistake.
The mistake being that the devs thought the playerbase would fall for it.

Except you haven't left , have you, seeing as how you are lurking around the forums waiting for SSG to make you a god mode strength class.

AND WHAT IN THE HELL IS THIS UNMITTIGATED PIECE OF TRASH?

None of these bonuses stack with any goddamn thing let alone being worthy of ml20

Enhancement bonus to speeds that's on every fkin thing already? the piddliest of all piddly sneak attack bonuses that are already on ml14 items from the exact same fking raid?

How in hell are you going to tell me these filthy ******* devs arent a pack of goddamn pederastic trolls.
