    Default Free to play Artificer

Okay I've been around a while. Long enough to have tried out all the classes. I've got to say I love the arti. However as a free to play I don't have access to all the packs and thus not to all the gear. I'm asking for opinion on what quests/gear are truly game changing. For example I have managed to pick up The Fatal Flaw repeater. This things is incredible at level and is useful well into epics. So what arti gear is out there in the same class so I can work towards getting those quests.

As a fellow Premium/F2P player, my advice is to not worry about it "too" much; just level and TR and do it again, and use the DP from the Favor you earn to buy the pack(s) you need. Especially when on sale - goes faster than you think.

But to (partly) answer your question, pick up some Night Revels Rubies of Ghostbane and craft some Light/Force of Unnatural bane on a repeater w/ a slot, and make that your dedicated reaper/undead killer. Money. (It even does well enough to kill non-undead trash between undead fights.)

As a follow-on to that^, do not craft Keen onto a CC-crafted weapon with a slot.

Grab Astral Projector from Night Revels. It gives incorporeal (10%), which stacks with blur, and deathblock, plus good targeted damage.

If you can find one on auction, get Stranati's cannon. Better yet, buy 3bc and farm it yourself.

Okay the reaper xbow is doing fantastic. Three barrel cove and sentinels are good purchases. The guild favor is nice and 3bc xp is insane. Gianthold looks like a good one to get also.

Check out the 2 relevant links in my sig.

And if money/points are valuable to you, wait for Sales! There's a small one on right now (3BC & 4 others, 20% off), but there will be some BIG ones end of the month and then again the midwinter holidaze.

Meanwhile, keep racking up them points!

I suppose it is not wrong to say that both at lvls 10 & 15 and at cap, the biggest game changer lies in the setbonuses (and also some other incredibly strong items with cool stuff like quality and insightful stacking bonuses, or say the stacking spellpower belts from RL) from Ravenloft and Sharn.

if you have been playing for a long time; still enjoy the game and plan on steadily keeping going a mid term to long term plan on getting those 2 expansions prly would be worth a thought. they may be available for lower amount of actual cash on the marketplace around black friday or christmas, maybe ... it is possible to unlock them with earned points, but this would require saving up very much and probably running a speedy TR cycle to keep the points coming in

That aside, there are 2 questpack options pertaining to your other question:

So what arti gear is out there in the same class so I can work towards getting those quests.
While the above mentioned Gianthold is first choice in terms of favor, mid/high heroic and low/mid epic xp gathering options as well as access to a heroic/epic raid, and also offers the rune armors at lvls 10, 14, 22 & 25 as well as 3 different runearms purely speaking in terms of artificer gear:

https://ddowiki.com/page/Disciples_of_Rage lvl14/31 offers a rather interesting set that gives crit multiplier increase as well as some slight runearm DC boost. the runearm also handily slots a high evocation focus and has a chance to freeze on shot. the repeater has armor piercing and force dmg on hit which is always nice. coupled with bracers with repair amp and runearm focus and deadly, you are covering quite a few arti bases with but 3 items that come in a set.

    https://ddowiki.com/page/Category:Re...pion_set_items

these quests are NOT easy though.

particularly, there are these xoriat eye horrors who shoot a lot of foce dmg that cannot be blocked by shield or nightshield. they can however be instakilled with blind spells, blind effects on hit or glitterdust traps. worse, the 4th quest and 5th quest have beholder bosses, the 4th in a very small enclosed space, the 5th with a nasty endfight mechanic with lots of them nasty eyes thrown in. both need some control of they eye horrors or things get ugly quickly.

on the bright side, there is more nice loots, particularly for druids (armor, double sickles fire/frost) as well as a helmet for each stat type with synergizing stuff on it. some good weapons too, scimitar, falchion (https://ddowiki.com/page/Update_38_named_items)
also, the helmets offer Trace of Madness crafting, meaning that with mats gathered in the other Madness adventure packs you can put nifty stuff like displacement guard or reflex save 10 or a proc daze on attack on a heroic ML14 hat (https://ddowiki.com/page/Altar_of_Insanity)
    ___

so this is just 5 quests, not much favor, (potentially)some of a pain to run, some planing & care required to not die to rare nasty trash mobs, but definetly incredibly nice items.
(yes im advertizing, my heroic arti had a blast with that set)

    2ndly, there is https://ddowiki.com/page/The_Mines_of_Tethyamar ML 15/31

similarly there is specifically arti loot in here: https://ddowiki.com/page/Update_36_named_items

like with the other pack, there is light repeaters and tactics bonuses in here as these packs came in the wake of the arti enhancement pass, so they aim at providing for the added sunder DC stuff in battleenginer and also at renegade mastermaker tree. light repeaters is cause gnome was sold with this ...

tethyamar is quite difficult TOO though if for slighly other reasons:
    a) generally speaking those quests are a bit of an outlier in mob strength, stuff just hits very hard and takes a while to beat down. tbh they feel more like lvl17 quests @ 15. Also, they are full of drow with high spell resistance - casters have it hard there. oh and the freaking drow poison you get, being paralyzed. bring lots of poison pots in heroic, in drow fights chug one at the start as they immunize for brief time - maybe poison resist topaz slotted, too ...

anyways, thematically and immersion wise both are not the worst packs with rage picking up the old madness chains theme and mines underdark feels. both loot wise and difficulty wise I would pick rage over/before tethyamar, despite the beholders. rage has nasty peaks in danger you can plan around, gear around, play around to some extent. in comparison the mobs in the mines are just almost constantly harsh opponents ...

if also factoring in guildies or friends on other classes I'd go gianthold -> rage -> maybe other stuff before tethyamar, though there ARE nice things there too.

if mainly arti focused and currently in that level range anyways I'd go rage -> gianthold

p.s. loot wise, generally newer content is more interesting ... soon to come borderlands with lvl21 stuff prly also will be good for folks like you to get decent item boost in early epics. so would be WPM 21 quests, yeah they are tough as nails but the loots is real gud

p.p.s in favor of gianthold: access to another saga both heroic and epic: big xp, big guild xp, skill tome access. 20th completion of GH raid usually has some +3 stat tomes in the list. nowadays can easily be soloed on a higher epic toon with some preparation and puzzle solver (check youtube for videos) so - basically if putting in the work, guarantied +3 tomes ... also, some of the raid loot stil has use baring access to sharn/ravenloft. specifically the ring of lies (deception; upgrade to improved deception) edit: overall GH loot is a bit dated these days, other good item would be ring of shadows from prison of the planes for blur/displace and for ghostly. also crucible backstaber's globes for deception/sneak attack, ghostwaking cloak CHA/ghostly, surefooted boots striding 30 slippery surface immunity- if you can get in alacrity elsewhere and dont need a unified speed item ...
    for completeness sake: https://ddowiki.com/page/Update_17_named_items

p.p.p.s. the relatively difficult drow optional in https://ddowiki.com/page/Search_and_Rescue (free2play in estar) drops a ML 15 Evocation Focus / Impulse Cloak. The Light armor is decent with stacking spell resistance. The Docent buffs a doggies defense and repair amp nicely. Like Thethyamar, this quest is an outlier in mob strength, best farm over level ...

other potentially arti useful free to play items:

ML 13 caster circlet and armor pierce boots https://ddowiki.com/page/Memoirs_of_...usory_Larcener

ML 15 INT /ins.INT/spellpower goggles; Electric Absorb/Vitality/quality MRR Ring; Resistance 6/Heal Amp bracers https://ddowiki.com/page/Lost_at_Sea

ML 17 trapping bracers; ranged power/deadly/accuracy ring; med armor; combat mastery dodge belt https://ddowiki.com/page/Good_Intentions

if you have access to vale of twilight:

    ML 15 ghostly/stacking PRR/MRR trinket; ins.Evoc Focus/ins Dodge/speed ring https://ddowiki.com/page/To_Curse_the_Sky
    ML 15 repair amp/quality INT/repair skill/quality magnetism cloak https://ddowiki.com/page/Creeping_Death

these items in epic/legendary are mostly ML29, sometimes 28, and serve non sharn/Ravenloft artis well ...

    ...
    final edit:

so, looking around, there is actually a bunch of arti useful mid/high heroic stuff in f2p quests. I forgot a book shooting runearm in tower of frost on that account btw ...

that aside by the time I was done, there still is a lot of goodies in Gianthold aside from loots and some items still serve a decent purpose @14/25. still the renegade mastermaker set is pretty swell too.

trying to condense a wall of text into 2 lines I'd say:

Gianthold offers a wealth of options, content, wilderness, xp, possible tomes, saga, raid.
Disciples of Rage offers an immediate boost to mid heroic arti via 3 items forming a set to be farmed, with added stat helmet usefulness.

    ...
I'd want both. order depends on personal preference
