    Default Iconic on Hardcore Server

Hey, I've got a question that seems pretty obvious. Sev said in a few interviews that if you play Iconic you'll be dropped back to Level 1. However, that means you get the obviously better trees of an Iconic. Is that intended? If so, I don't see any reason why to play a Gnome over a Deep Gnome.

    Can anyone comment on this?

    Thanks!

I don't see the iconic trees as better, but rather different. There might be some over-performing abilities, cannot really think of anything game-breaking. I am not worried at all.

Just looking at Deep Gnome, at level 3 I can have a Stoneskin SLA and +6 Shield Bonus to AC while spending the normal points for some really powerful abilities. If DDO thinks it's all the same power level, that's cool...but I think we're going to see an overabundance of Iconic characters in Hardcore.

Stoneskin SLA at level 3 is okay. Though at caster level 3, it's just 30 HP.
Honestly, I'd rather spend points in class tree to pick up some SLAs or pale master form or eldritch knight offenses or defenses.
In my experience, locking too many AP in racial tree is rarely useful.

Also, at level 5 you can purchase scrolls and at level 7 there are wands.

Well then, then play a deep gnome. What is the problem here?

Caster level 2. On a 30 second cooldown. For 35 spell points. Eating up all your AP.

    It's an option.

Shallow gnomes get a boost to UMD in the cores, Deep gnomes get MRR

Arguably UMD might be more useful in HCL since it means you get access to Heal, Teleport, etc. that much sooner. Especially if your build is only going to have a smattering of points to spend in Racial anyway - its not like players willl have 14 RAP from racial completionist to sink into either Gnome tree

Also, Gnome is free to VIP but Deep Gnome is not, so some players might just not have a choice
