    Is there something besides that?

The much wider choice of armors (and consequently better item set choices) are certainly a BIG driver for Bear tanks but it's not the only one.

Some Bear tanks have 5 levels of Artificer for Renegade Mastermaker's additional 20% Hit Points. I wouldn't do that because I like Nature's Protector Tier 5 better but it's a legitimate option.

There are other reasons, I believe, but none come to mind atm.

Is the HP stacking something that changed? Previously the arti hp line locked you out of wild shape and I didn't see that when I scanned through notes.

I don't see anything in Paragon Body's language about locking you out of Wild Shaping.

Paragon Body is a +20% Racial Bonus to HP so it stacks with Sacred and Competence bonuses.

    I'll be darned.

Maybe that's not why some bear tanks are taking levels of Artificer, then!

Hmmm...now that I think about it harder, maybe they're not taking 5 levels of Artificer.

Ok, just checked with the Lava Divers' main tank - Fastlain.

His bear only has 3 levels of Artificer.

    My bad.

    Sorry for the confusion.

    His build is 9Druid/8Barb/3Arti.

Interesting level class selection, I have to dive into that.
    Still sword and board?

Yes. 12barb/5druid/3arti would work also depending on how much you value 5%ac over core 4's.

Anyone have a sharn gear list for a tank? Extra props if its a bear tank, but any could work.
Btw cant rage and use CE.

My armchair analyst tells me that bear tanks fall into the nitch of self healing threat tanks. Maybe others have a better idea?

Having delved into it pretty deeply in the last 24 hours I'd say they're just threat tanks with still-lesser tank stats. Being able to use the tank sets bridged the previous gap by a bit but the lack of stacking shield feats and twists plus the fighter heavy armor feats is a really large drop in prr, about 40 or so. And rages absolutely do not make up for % hp stacking in the health department. Self healing requires either a heavy racial investment in Aasimar, where you can't take the Ascendant bond, or being a more pure bear in which case the tanking stats drop well into the territory of tanky melee rather than a actual tank. Otherwise it's just left with Renewal like most others.

Even the threat part is about to be a serious whatever once the threat modifications make it to live as anything tank related running in US should have absurd amounts anyways.

Though I have to say I got a bit inspired by Gilga's post about the 16Fvs/4druid. Made a version in the builder and I have to honestly say it's a pretty elite raid healer or offtank type of split. Not gonna be going hard at high reaper for sure but is good enough to fill in when needed and if it's heals with 900-1000 positive spellpower and 70% crit chance with a 1.3 multi can't keep the tank up then it's probably better off taking that tank's role anyways.

The gearing I looked at was kind of all over the place with a ton of options. Did variations with and without 2 LGS pieces and found the final numbers to still be quite a bit less than the true tanks. And while some people will say that 40 or so PRR isn't a big deal I'd argue that it is, especially when the true tanks can pull off situational gear swaps and still retain better numbers than a optimal bear. Granted barbarian does get the nifty % dr. Obviously with a plethora of past lives and skill tomes it's much easier to hit intimidate requirements and keep the saves high. But all of that applies to the real tanks also so the bears are still flavor in my opinion.

Thanks for your thoughts on bear tanks. I agree with your assessment for the most part. My actual desire for a bear tank gear set is to use it on my dps/dc druid so i can situationally swap into bear form and tank some quest bosses when a better tank toon is not available.

If you want a self healing tanky toon i would suggest running 3/4 pally instead or druid. The 17 cleric/3 pally luck domain toon is a really tanky dc caster.

Also just run 18-20 druid levels. People don’t really think that druids are great healers but i would argue that they are better in some ways then fvs and clerics. Stacking vigor is a really strong ability. And mass regeneration is seriously good, especially with everyone having heal amp gear now with the new sets.

Druids are amazing healers because of the dot-style ticks of regen and vigor spells. Though for raid healing I greatly prefer the wall over anything cleric offers. It's not a role I'd ever build my main for so something like a 16/4 that will still see 4k hp in reaper with 250ish ac/prr and over 200 mrr on a toon with next to no past lives is a pretty big deal considering the limited investment of gearing. I like grossly over-stacking spellpower and crit so I can keep dots up on at least 2 people, one that's completely fire and forget for 30 seconds, so I can play lazy if I'm forced to log a healer. I'd love to make a dc/healer but to hit the numbers I'd want it would require my main and I'd be bored of it quickly.

Tank gear swaps on a non-tank build druid are limited without the set bonus. Giant's Platter/Vulkoor's Edge covers most of the AC gains and Hallowed Castigator bracers cover the ins prr/mrr if you don't already have it. The medium armor from that set isn't metal either so a full swap from the druid set is possible without nuking your dc's.

Based on what I've been reading, I made some updates to the build. Thanks for all the helpful feedback so far.

It's not 10% more attack speed, it's just 10% attack speed. Check the character sheet after taking that core. If you have 15% equipment boost, you'll go from 20% to 25%, not 30%. (the other 5% is coming from the 18 core). Was a major disappointment for me.

I also think that the cooldown reduction is bugged in the final core for both wolf and bear and doesn't apply correctly. Both of those things taken together with the fact that you can get memorize all the level 9 spells you need with 18 druid levels made me pretty much abandon ever going 20 druid on either wolf or bear.
