    Default Inquisitive? End Game DPS

    Hello, I am building an Inquisitive End Game DPS toon and while working out all the details, I thought it might be helpful to post it online to see if others had input.

    Base assumptions:
    • Highest priority is DPS
    • Ranged (I already have a melee rogue)
    • Defense and self healing
    • Assassins trick would be nice
    • This is for a completionist, Epic completionist and will be a racial completionist but only have 8 racial lives done so far [Aasimar, Dragonborn and on my 3rd Drow life now])
    • More to come as the build is fleshed out


    Here is what I have so far, I broke it into four sections so they can be addressed individually or mixed and matched.

    This is by no means limited to any enhancement, class or race. I am just looking to build a new(ish) ranged DPS toon from scratch as a mental challenge and to pass the time.

    IMO, 18 Rogue / 2 Artificer is a better split. I've seen some folks in various Inquisitive threads arguing the same thing

    Versus 20 Rogue, this split gets you:
    - Free Rapid Reload feat, which you can replace with Precision or Completionist in your current build
    - Runearm use. With Dumpster Fire, that's 2d8 fire and bludgeoning damage, both of which scale 200% with RP
    - Int-based spellpoints (my 18/2 non-inquisitive isn't well-geared and has ~600) for heals and KTA

    You lose:
    - 1d6 SA, which is compensated by runearm imbues circa level 15
    - Rogue special ability, which would probably be Crippling Strike or Defensive Roll
    - Capstone access, but you're taking the Inquisitive one so it's moot

    I'd also recomment putting some of your Gnome points in KTA. With Wildwood Gauntlets you've got Blur covered and KTA adds a lot more damage than Gnomish Weapon Training

    I am one of those "on the fence" people. Normally I prefer the "always on" things more than the limited time boosts but being as you get enchant armor, enchant weapon and conjure bolts (cheaper spell point cost than the inquisitor enhancement), as well as rune arms and a free feat, I decided to take your advice.

    I have updated the build with your suggestions.

    Legendary Wallwatch Circlet has 13 doubleshot
    new raid hat is supposed to have insightful doubleshot

    the second table seems completely off. first two should not stack and the set does not offer any alacrity

    enhancements:
    - if you say Assassins trick would be nice, why don't you take it?
    - 5th core of mechanic, are you planning to swap to great crossbows occasionally? or you can probably drop it
    - 3 AP in thief acrobat - running fast is a lot of DPS

    split:
    - if you decide to ditch 5th mech core, you could ditch 18 rogue and pick up 1 barb for more run speed.

    No low hanging fruit to get rid of. I expect the enhancements to change, there were a lot of options and combinations and running through them all in detail with testing may take time

    Took it for the +1 Competence Bonus to Critical Multiplier with crossbows. This seemed like a good way to add to DPS

    As it is a ranged toon, movement speed has less impact then on a melee toon. I would prefer the extra crit damage and the extra Rogue feat.

    I didn't know that, good to know, that frees up some AP!!!!!!!

    Changed the enhancements to include fast movement from the acrobat tree.

    What does 18 rogue get you that 17 doesn't? I would pick up a level of either barbarian for faster movement (always nice on a ranged toon) or fighter for more action boosts (NHB).

    More skill points (mostly for Hide[SA], diplo, balance, UMD, trap stuff and ETC)

    Barb:
    • A few extra HP would be nice.
    • Speed, I have been playing this toon as a ranged for many years, with haste/quiver of alacrity and acrobat, I go as fast as I need to, so not really a big interest to me.


    Fighter:
    • I will be wearing light armor and using crossbow so none of the free feats you get from fighter will really help.
    • Action boosts are ok, but not my primary playstyle. I don't like having to hit 20 buttons each fight to maintain DPS, if I can build in persistent DPS and narrow down the amount of boosts, I am much happier. I straif a lot and am constantly moving so most of my time is dedicated to hitting those keys (yes, I know there are uber people out there with 5 hands and 17 macros that can hit 274 keys a second and whatever, that isn't me)
    • Now, the bonus feat on the other hand......


    I will look into what extra feat would be worth taking fighter for.

    some thoughts


    ditch your sentience gem layout and start over, focus on range power over doubleshot
    17/2/1 is king atm so your spot on there, fighter over barb for sure
    ditch diefic warding, swap to addy weapons, you'll thank me later
    SD is ok, on a head to head test LD pulls ahead of it with the Range power over taking the SA dice and INT bonuses combined, its not bad to use and personal preference is important. However LD is straight up more DPS on this build

    You know you can buy addy scrolls....Why in the world would you waste a feat on this? Honestly, I would take Watchful Eye over Addy Weapons.

    Personally I would not want to get IPS so late in the game for racials. IPS is such a huge boost to dps that I would not want to wait until level 18 to get it. The build in my signature gets it at 12 and has proven to be quite effective in the lives I have done with it.

    I didn't really get that far yet, he has been doing racials and hasn't been over level 20 for a while now. I am open to suggestions though

    That would be silly because inquisitors get watchful eye for free in the enhancement tree and cannot use addy weapon scrolls on their weapon.

    Yes I know these are messed up, they are last on my todo list as the toon is only level 2 right now Just a placeholder folks.

    Definitely go LD or Fury over SD...Most of the good stuff in SD can be twisted.

    I have ran a similar build and if you honestly are looking for pure DPS (considering SA dmg as part of overall damage) your split is wrong. 12Ro/6Ra/2A is probably your best split.

    Personally I feel as though 28 points invested in mechanic is not as well spent. Mechanic to me is either spend 3/11-14/31/41 to get the good cores. DWS offers so much more DPS for the remaining points your could spend over 11 you need to get int to damage. Or you could just spend a few more points into harper and spend more in DWS and get better returns for the investment IMO.

    Comparing what you posted compared to 12Ro/6Ra/2A with a spend of 41 Inq/13 Harp / 13 Mech / 11 DWS / 3 TA / 4 Gnome
    You lose 2 SA Die (-3 Ro Lvls -2 Mech +3 DWS)
    You lose +5 hit/dmg (-5 Mech), *But Gain back +2 hit/dmg against evil from Harper, and gain +2 dmg Ram's Might and +1 dmg Enchant Weapon Arty Spell This is almost a wash.
    You lose +1 Intelligence (-2 Mech +1 Harper)
    You lose Fletching III (who cares you will get conjure bolts spell from arty)
    You lose +2UMD (-3 UMD Mech +1 UMD Scroll Arty)
    You lose Opportunist and Crippling Strike (neither ability good anyways)
    You lose -2 Listen/Search/Spot

    You gain +10m PBS (-5m Mech +15m DWS)
    You gain +34 Positive Spell Power (+34 DWS)
    You gain Sniper Shot (Will be your best attack)
    You gain AB Ranged Power III
    You gain Lesser Vigor SLA with 6 uses/rest
    You gain +3 Diplomacy, Hide & Move Silently
    You gain Rune Arm Use
    You gain Conjure Bolts, Enchant Weapon, Ram's Might

    They are close, but if you are into maximizing DPS, I think this is the best build. And there are extra bonuses as well like better cocoon, a little extra SLA heal.

    The biggest loss will be losing 2 SA Die, however you will gain almost one of them back with the bump in Hide Skill (+3 for DWS). Additionally Rune Arm Imbues will outmatch the loss of even 2 SA Die just in extra damage, not to mention the extra bypasses and goodies you get from those. You also gain +10m in PBS and a really good attack with Sniper Shot that will become your most powerful attack. On top of that you have the Range Power Action Boost that is semi-useful to click simultaneous with No Holds if you have enough boosts.
