Paul _______ ----> You know who you are Thank you so much for your contribution.

I'm starting to believe we might just hit our goal before the weekend ends. I would have been happy if we next our goal by next VETERANS DAY. It looks like we have a shot to meet it in the very same weekend we started it, and by Memorial Day. Some have placed their donation in the spirit of a close friend or family member veteran that is no longer with us. That is just incredible and a token of just how loyal and gracious this community is towards each other, even if they have no idea who exactly will benefit from their gift. The DDO community is awesome. You either need to BE a veteran or within blood relation to truly understand their sacrifice. That's not a scientific study, just my own personal belief.

Thanks again to everyone that is contributing to this cause.

Default The difference between Memorial Day and Veterans Day

Memorial Day and Veterans Day are both patriotic holidays honoring the military, but there is a significant difference between the two aside from when they land on the calendar.

Memorial Day, which falls on the last Monday in May, honors the men and women who died while serving in the military. This solemn occasion is a time to reflect on these American patriots who made the ultimate sacrifice while protecting and defending the country they deeply loved. Veterans Day, observed every November 11, recognizes all who have served in the Armed Forces.

You may wonder: What is the proper way to acknowledge each holiday?

On Memorial Day you can honor the fallen by attending memorial services within your community or laying flowers and planting flags on graves at your local Veterans cemetery. Many local Boy Scout troops will go to other cemeteries and place flags on veterans graves. Call them up and offer to come along and help, or just look for those empty flag holders in the ground!

Veterans Day is an opportunity to do the same, but it is also an appropriate time to show your appreciation to Veteran friends and family. You can also recognize Veterans Day by flying the American flag outside your home, visiting or volunteering at a Veteran facility, attending a local event, and, of course, thanking Veterans and their families for their service.

Our guild expands upon these two holidays to include service members from all nations.

You do not have to wait for a national holiday to show your gratitude to Service members. Any day is a good day to support Veterans either through a charity or giving a heartfelt “thank you” to those who served.

This year my guild has chosen "Homes for Our Troops" who specialize in building smart, custom homes for severely injured veterans. And we are dedicating yours and our donations to those friends and family of those who died in service and any veteran who served their time and is not with us any longer. You can even volunteer your time to PHYSICALLY help build these homes. Check their site to see if they are building a home for a veterean NEAR YOU!!

This post is one last ditch effort to get to our $1,000 goal before the end of Memorial Day, today. Thank you so much for reading.

    We are at $765.

Just $235 left to go to reach our goal by TONIGHT, Memorial Day!!!!

Thanks to Nimaadji and Quirky.Unicorn for your donations! Very much appreciated.

We have raised $795 to date. Amazing for "just a gaming community".

I'll keep it open all night and until we reach our goal.

    Default We Did It!

    WE DID IT
    !!!!

With small and large donations, we DID IT in FIVE DAYS!

$1,000 raised has never been done by any gaming guild or community for Home For Our Troops, and we did it ALL ONLINE. In five days.

Tyrs guildies from Dungeons & Dragons Online, Neverwinter, Elder Scrolls Online, and Guild Wars 2 and members of the greater DDO and Neverwinter communities chipped in, SUCCESSFULLY combining real life resources to help raise money to allow Homes For Our Troops to build a custom build home for a veteran and his/her family with the greatest need.

We've granted this money in MEMORY our OUR FAMILIES and FRIENDS who served in the armed forces from the United States and all other countries who are no longer with us.

These donations go forth in the name of your fathers and mothers, your grandfathers and grandmothers, Your uncles & aunts, your cousins, your friends, named or unnamed.

More to follow. I will list the veteran home(s) that our donations went to build, and we will GET TO SEE THE HOME BUILT and meet the veteran!!

    Thanks again!
