Default d20 "Decider" ? (Jeopardy question)

Caught this question on Jeopardy yesterday. I'd never heard of a d20 being called a "decider".

Darn. I thought that would be a fun little down-time topic.

But seriously, has anyone ever heard of d20s being referred to as "deciders"?

I've never heard it called that - and I'm not sure I ever want to hear a D20 called that again.

Was kinda my reaction when I saw that question. They've done well in the past like asking a LOTRO question what the second F in LFF means. I did Google a bit and only found one toy site using the term to advertise poly sets.

    Weird.

Before answering here - I popped this question into my D&D Facebook group as well... and so far none have ever used "decider" for a D20, and nobody likes it.

I just emailed the Jeopardy folks asking them what their writers used for reference on this. Will see what/if they they reply.

Well, emailing them and getting a response might be two completely different things - but one of the sub-topics on their contact form was feedback on episodes, so, maybe...

It's not like they can shoot me for asking. I hope.

It doesn't even sound right when Alex says it. Makes you wonder what the researchers used to verify their sources when they wrote the material for the show. It certainly wasn't any mainstream D&D or DDO player!
"When asked if the developers hate the players, as they make so many challenging jumping puzzles, their response was that they have what they consider a “… normal amount of contempt for the players.” This is good. A dungeon master should always nurse a healthy contempt for his or her players."

Well, I never got a reply from them about the d20 "decider" thing. Go figure.

    Meanwhile, on yesterday's show...

The current champ, Laurel Lathrop, is a D&D player. Alex started off with, "So, you play Dungeons and Dragons..." then she described her character in the few seconds dialog following first break.

not sure if it is a good idea to admit you play video games AND watch jeopardy

    So I looked it up:

Here is where they call it "decider" specifically:
    https://www.dieharddice.com/what-are-dnd-dice

and here they call it the decider for most things:
    https://www.d12dungeonchronicles.com...g/d-and-d-dice

One being a store the other being a blog....
