Default What Does It Want From the Resource Folder

    Hello to all,

Wait to connect, initializing, then a folder named Resources pops up. Can anyone tell me what the correct answer is? Perhaps if I answer it right I can access the game after four days. Is this just a MAC issue?

    Thanks,
    Wayne

Hello Wayne. The DDO game is really two applications. There is the Launcher, which coordinates updates, collects your username, password and desired server, and negotiates with the login servers, and then there is the Client which is launched by the Launcher with all the accumulated parameters to get you into the actual game.

In macOS 10.14.4, the Launcher is broken. It can do everything it is supposed to do, but when it is ready to run the Client, it is unable to find it. That is what that dialog is that is coming up. It is asking you to locate the Client. The correct path to the client is either /Applications/DNDLauncher.app/Contents/Resources/dndclient.app or /Applications/DNDLauncher.app/Contents/Resources/dndclient.app/Contents/MacOS/dndclient. I am not sure which it really wants, but it doesn't matter because the Launcher doesn't add the required parameters and it fails.

You can still launch and play the game using the launcher script available here: https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthrea...t-For-Mac-OS-X. But if you are not comfortable fiddling with files and using the Terminal, this won't be a good solution for you.

Don't download and install the game any more times. It won't help. The Launcher needs to be fixed by SSG.

    Default Thanks

    Greetings,

Thanks for a reasonable explanation. It is a bummer though. I'll wait.

    Thanks,
    Wayne

We are not quite ready to provide more information, but we are working on getting a Wine-based version of the DDO client out to you as soon as we can. This will be similar to the one released a few weeks ago for The Lord of the Rings Online, and essentially means a one-time redownload and re-installation of the game client. The Wine client will eventually replace the existing MacOS client, and can replace the client for anyone who chooses to check it out after downloading it. For those of you running into Mojave issues, this - should - work for you. The formal rollout of the updated client on places like the Download page will come later, but we can offer it up hopefully soon in a slightly less formal way to help those currently impacted by Mojave 10.14.4.
Have fun, and don't forget to gather for buffs!

Wine version? Would this run on Linux in Wine or is it specifically tied to the Mac? (I know next to nothing about Macs)

Default Day Five and Still Waiting

    Hello again,

I notice in your posting that you say " - should - " work. This really doesn't fill me with hope. Would have preferred the word "- will -" make it work.

How much longer will we have to wait?

    Thanks,
    Wayne

If anyone ever promises that a big and complicated piece of new coding WILL work, its almost a guarantee that they dont know what they're talking about, and it wont

The surer they are, the more worried you should be.

Similar to the LOTRO Wine client we recently introduced, this is specifically tailored to MacOS. Just to be clear, under normal circumstances we might wait just a bit longer before sending out a link to this Wine client for DDO, but since there is a specific issue for folks on Mojave 10.14.4, and this could well resolve that issue, we want to offer it to people who might not want to wait.

Ok, the Beta Wine client can be downloaded here: http://download.ddo.akamai.turbine.c...olive-wine.dmg

    Couple of known issues:

    - Screenshots are not working correctly.
    - The launcher is unable to correctly open logs.
    - Keyboard input is respected as a Windows key input rather than Mac.
    - The app bundle is not yet correctly signed, so launching it will require extra action (right click then open).

    Greetings,

That seems a wise way of viewing the situation.

    I bow,

Default That didn't Work for Me

    Hello,

Okay I downloaded it. First, it isn't working. Two, it left a lot of stuff on my screen that I don't recognize. I've got black screens with exe that are labeled Dungeons & Dragons Desktop, a file labeled Dungeons & Dragons Online.lnk, three identical wine-preloaders, and a ddo logo that doesn't make the game start.

    That was fun,
    Wayne

Thank you, thank you, a million times thank you!

I installed this tonight and it worked right off the bat! I had to make a tweak in the wine config to not use all my monitors when running but that was it! I can finally play DDO again on my Mac without having to boot into Windows first!!

I will be eagerly watching for the final release of this!

    Default Okay, Guess I'll Wait

    Hello to all,

Happy for all those able to finally play again. I see that the program is working after the user tweaks the program in some way. I am just a user who would like a game that I can load and play. When will that happen?

    Thanks,
    Wayne

Default Day Six, Still Waiting - No Beta for Me Thanks

    Hello again,

Day Six and a beta wine client download is available. Tried it. Didn't work. Back to waiting.

    Thanks,

    Default Question

    Hello,

I am not certain about something. Does the wine client download work in conjunction with usual ddo download for MAC or does it have all the game files?

    Thanks,
    Wayne

For anyone having trouble with this client, try installing with these steps in mind:

    • Once the dmg file is open, drag DDO into your applications folder
    • After the copy finishes, close the dmg
    • Navigate to applications, and right click DDO, and open it (be sure you are opening the new DDO)

This should clear up issues people are seeing with it not working. It cannot be run from within the DMG.
Additionally, there is a point where the installer hangs up momentarily. It will come back from that given a bit of time.
Any unwanted links/shortcuts placed on the desktop or dock bar can safely be removed.

If these steps don't seem to help you get up and running, please report back. We'll take a look into any issues we have sufficient information on. Let us know what went wrong, as well as the steps taken to get to that point.

Thank you very much for doing this!

After several years playing on Mac finally, I can play changing the gamma level to do darker dungeons!!!! Also not to restart the game every two dungeons improved my game experience! Thank you very much!!! : )

    Default Will Not Download

    Hello,

Thanks for the suggestions. Just tried for the second time to get this to load. Right now it shows 785M DDO in the Applications File. A double click gets a jiggling DDO icon and nothing else. It just stops moving. Nothing happens.

    Thanks,
    Wayne
