    Default U42 Preview 1: Dungeons

    Disclaimer
Everything seen on the preview server, Lamannia, is not final and is subject to change or removal before live release.

Update 42 is expected to feature 9 Story Dungeons, 7 Explorer Dungeons, 1 Explorer Area, and 2 Raids. This first preview contains 4 of those Story Dungeons and 4 of those Explorer Dungeons. Players can gain access to these quests by speaking to "Lord Poincelot" in the center of the test dojo and then purchasing the "Masterminds of Sharn" adventure pack in the DDO Store.

    The Sharn Story Dungeons
The questgiver for the Story Dungeons can be found in the Clifftop Tower District of Sharn. You can reach Sharn either through a transport NPC in the Harbor or a transport NPC in the center island of the Test Dojo.

    • A Sharn Welcome (Levels 15/32)

    • Red Rain (Levels 15/32)

    • Just Business (Levels 15/32)

    • No Refunds (Levels 16/32)

    The Cogs Explorer Dungeons
The Explorer Dungeons will not feature questgivers upon release, however, the Cogs Explorer area is not available for this preview and so there is a "Cogs Guide" outside the elevator to the Cogs in the Clifftop Tower District of Sharn that will transport you into any of the 4 available Explorer Dungeons. You can reach Sharn either through a transport NPC in the Harbor or a transport NPC in the center island of the Test Dojo.

    • Ruinous Schemes (Levels 15/32)

    • Roll Call (Levels 15/32)

    • Security Detail (Levels 15/32)

    • Smash and Burn (Levels 15/32)

    Quest Known Issues
    • Dungeon decoration, character appearances, and lighting in the dungeons are not complete.
    • Text should be complete, but may contain typos.
    • Most of the questgivers have placeholder text.
    • The Sharn quests show up in the Adventure Compendium with the incorrect patron ("None")
    • The Sharn quests show up in the Quest Journal on the wrong tab ("Misc")
    • The Magma Brute in "Roll Call" does not look like a Magma Brute.
    • The puzzle in "Roll Call" may occasionally have issues - please report them if you run into any. (The goal is to get all the columns the same height.) If you run into a problem with the puzzle, there's a test lever that will bypass it, but please only use this as a last resort.
    • Worker Constructs do not fight as they're supposed to (in fact, they do not fight at all.)
    • Treasure tables are not set up yet. Most chests will drop a basic dagger with no effects.

I have complete A Sharn Welcome, No Refund and Ruinous Schemes on Legendary (Epic) Hard with my 32 point build I have been farming Ravenloft with; one Battle Cleric.

    A Sharn Welcome
I really didn't understand what was going on storyline wise in the quest. stuff was happening just ahead of me, probably because i couldn't find Izzet (spelling) at first.
I was unable to bypass the DR on Wash and Dry, they just followed me around. Too much stuff in the combat log to figure out what kind of DR they had but the at least 1200 points is pretty high.

Maybe it is because the story was happening around me it felt a little sloggish as a quest. Here a Boromar their a Boromar everywhere a Boromar, Kill them all let the Sovereign Host sort them out.

Assuming the Daggars were place holders for Named Loot in the chests.

I enjoyed the Boromar Lieutenant and his friend. It was a wow moment.

Dislike the drop to the harbor.

    No Refund
Totally got a story in this one, it was however a slog.
The Security Specialist was a very long slog to beat down. Again soo much stuff in my cobat log hard to figure out how high the DR was. I beat it down halfway (6 minutes) before moving on.
No clue what i was supposed to do after opening the skycoach ramp. I spent too much time figuring it out, it was frustrating.
The secret door I could not find (but could stand ont he ledge). my Search is a 47 ...

The end fight was ultra boring. One boss and two security drones.

    Ruinous Schemes
The Goblins didn't really do an damage to me. You may want to check to see that they are WAI.

The End fight was kind of well disjointed. You fight the end boss well the mobs are coming through the artifact, but the text indicates you have to deal with the end boss before the artifact. For parties that going to be a issue because there isn't enough room on the platform and with all the mob CC going off.

The large spinning wheel in the room with 3 locked doors on 3 sides in Smash and Burn, going to the front or of the wheel where the parts coming out of the wheel go down whill kill you instantly but going up against it on other sides wont.

Part 2 of Sharn has many enemies that require walking up to in order to start a fight with them. As a ranged character, this was frustrating. It also makes no sense when a lot of these enemies are ranged themselves.

I gave up on Roll Call. I got to through the first part and the magma enemy, then there appeared to be nowhere to go. Also, this quest is using Element of Surprise for the vents that blow you places, which could be the reason why the ballistas are broken in Frame Work.

Daggers keep showing up in loot for some reason (just plain old daggers with no lootgen stats).

I got an experience elixir in a chest. I would be happy if this is WAI, but I'd be surprised if it is.

If you're talking about No Refunds, you should be able to range those guys no problem - they're supposed to take damage, then snap out of their idles and go hostile. (If it's not working that way, please let us know.)

In No Refund they do not activate very quickly if at all.

Seemed only able to hit the artifact at an angle as well when using a bow. Straight on did nothing.

Don't have time to do the quests tonight but OMG just running around the city zone is just breathtaking! Leaping over balconies, looking up at the architecture, peaking into to every nook and cranny allowed. So freaking awesome! Beautiful, just beautiful.

Default Only had time to preview one quest tonight

    Here is my critique

I rolled an Iconic Bladeforged Paladin and took the default path to level-up to 15
I spec'd the enhancements as a normal KotC/Sacred Defender Paladin - nothing tricky or special
I picked up the Part of the Family 3-piece and the Syranian Greatsword
All other gear was the Bladeforged Starter gear

    Ruinous Schemes: Heroic level 15

Adventure is short - really short. I suppose that's fine - but - if it takes a long time to get to the quest in the Cogs,
it being so short might make it unplayable - as in not worth the effort it takes to get there - unless it offers some substantial XP
and from what I could see the XP was less than stellar...

It feels like the difficulty is off by at least one difficulty level- the quest is way too easy.
I repeated the quest and up'd the difficulty each time until I died - I made it to R3.
HN felt like HC, HH felt like HN - etc. I expected to clear up to R1 - I very rarely survive solo R2+ on live.
I didn't feel challenged until R1 - and by challenged I mean I was no longer ROFLStomping and had
to kick in to serious /player mode - on live HE makes me pay a attention and R1 takes all my skill to get through
So still ROFLStomping on R1 (with no reaper points or reaper gear) is disappointingly too easy.

I expected the first room fight to be more of an ambush or mob swarm... the concerned citizen did say if I go charging in
I'll have a fight on my hands - 3 or 4 fatty goblins isnt much of a fight

(goblins seem to be re-skinned dwarves and they look bulky/fat around the head-neck-shoulders - maybe re-skinned halflings would have
    made a better choice?)

Also - sometimes a goblin or two will run out to where the concerned citizen is to range you - currently the citizen
does not react or move and the goblin ignores him - I think there is a missed opportunity to have some kind of interaction here -
even if its just for drama - have the citizen run away or call for help or even fight the goblin and an objective could be to keep
him alive or something - right now having the NPC just kneel there while a goblin is standing on his head lobbing **** at you
just feels unfinished or sloppy - at least close the door after you enter the room so that cant happen.

I think the Portal should be harder to destroy (The pillars in What Goes Up would be about right) especially if the demon spawns
keep interrupting you - which they currently do not because you can lock them out too quickly
Also - Some of the demons just stand there in the excavation pit - the room is small - they should see you fighting
up on the platform and engage you - also the main boss is too weak and basic - give him a special attack or something that makes
    that fight more interesting

The Bugbear fight is also too easy - maybe some traps or other hazard would make it more than a "here we go again" beat down...

If the quest was a little longer, a little harder and gave a little more XP it would be darn near perfect for a standard kill'em all
type of bash - but as it is - I feel there needs to be some random mechanism to hold interest for repeatability.

Thanks for the preview and Sharn looks fantastic.

A couple things for me running the four story quests (running on heroic normal):

    1) Wash and Dry didn't move, only after I attacked did they do anything
    2) Mobs were dropping ingredients bags - but they had normal ingredients in them: Cryptomoss Worm Larva, Phoenix Tavern Purchase Order, Ceramic Bowl, Luminescent Dust, etc.
    3) Both the mount and the red named enemy are named Rabo the Clawrider <Boromar Lieutenant> - should they have different names?
    4) The bomb bats didn't explode, just flew around me
    5) The sky sleds were pretty fun, and easy to control. However, i couldn't figure out how to get off without it accidentally happening. Maybe adding a scroll with some instructions, like there was at the lever that summoned the platform

I will be doing the cogs quests tomorrow, so may have more then

In Ruinous Schemes, the Khyber Fleshrender, Iceflenser, and Firereaver should have their names separated like all others. Otherwise short, but fun quest!

In Roll Call, the levers are still targetable after being used, though they cannot be interacted with again. Are the pipe doors supposed to simply disappear when levers are pulled? Are the Fire Elementals and Security Constructs supposed to be a higher CR than the red names in heroics? In Heroic Elite, every chest gave me a ml 1 vendor dagger

In Security Detail, in heroics are the Shield Guardians supposed to be CR 24, higher than the red name bosses? Also, the exploding constructs' corpses turn into glass spiders. Is that intended?

Some of the larger pillar puzzles are extremely time consuming to figure out. Gave up on doing all of the non-mandatory ones. Are you supposed to clip through the hanging carts? In Smash And Burn there were some platforms I couldn't reach, and it looked as though you should ride the carts to them, but you can't climb on them. There's actually quite a few pipes and things that you clip through in the large machinery room. Also, when standing on the spinning cogs, are they not supposed to move you at all? They keep spinning beneath your feet but you stand in place. This was my least favorite of all the quests due to the tons of jumping to small platforms required, and any misstep requires you to start back from the bottom of the room.

All of the lava I stepped foot in didn't do any damage

    From the Cogs:

    Security Detail -
All of the metal wall panels can be walked through.
X9 did nothing but follow me, and when I killed it, no death animation

    Default A Sharn Welcome

Epic version. Snuck through large parts of A Sharn Welcome. Bypassed red named Rabo Clawrider. Reached end and was dropped into Sharn. No completion, nothing in Quest info box other than "Optional. Read all of Vaunts notes". Ran back through and killed everything. Got completion when Rabo Clawrider and his pet died. Might want to add something in the Quest Goals box indicating that Rabo is a required kill.

    Default Red Rain

Epic version. Diplo'd thugs after investigating apartment. Passed diplo check and was allowed passage. Wolf Gate was closed and no Zeleth, no advancement under quest info. Went back to thugs and they were active. Murdered them and got dialog to continue to Wolf Gate to meet Zeleth and advancement in quest info.

    Default Just Business

Epic version. Talking to Casper after completion (but before he finishes reacting to Issabet) offers dialog choices from first meeting: The red eagle flies at dawn, etc. He is not interact-able after his reaction.

After quest completion, if targeting Issabet, she shows up in focus orb as Irk. Name says Issabet, but image is Irk.

Smash & Burn, pillar puzzle at beginning is too close to the wall, got stuck, had to /stuck to get out.... also a stuck spot in between the large gears in smelting room.

Pillar puzzle in smelting room had a glitch, reset? Couldn't get door to open after solving, had all items and optionals done, reset client, had same issue twice.
