Default Rangers *still* need an update,

Prob the weakest class if going pure.
Lvl 24 is a clear example of the prejudice.
Show me where a pure Ranger gets anything useful here (for casting ranger spells).

People wont really take you seriously... if your argument for ranger being nerfed, is looking at a feat list DESIGNED for spell casters. *shrugs*

Your post suggests you're trying to play a pure Ranger as an offensive spellcaster in Epics.

    A bold choice.

At any rate: There are a lot of Ranger builds that hold up extremely well in Epics. While there is still a need for adjustments in the Ranged ecosystem as a whole, Ranger (as a Class) is performing very well right now.
We don't only build for the builds that exist.
We don't only build for the builds that are good right now.

The fact that some changes are necessary is not diminished by the fact that other necessary changes have not happened yet.

Please consider entangle & snare as something to look at. I've been toying w/ Aasimar/Falconry wis based, w/ transmutation items and getting these spells to land around 50% of the time in epics. Without gearing up to make these more effective is what Im driving at.

Yes I purposely made this thread abbreviated, with that screenshot to get your feedback (thanks)

Ranger are in a decent place?, (compared to the OP love for crossbows now, I disagree) except* for the few spells that can make a difference for them, and adding a lvl 24 spell casting feat for transmutation is where Im going.

I knew I'd catch some flack (whats new), so be it, getting my idea some traction w/ you is the point,

let me know what you think please.

Reduce the cooldown for Imp Empathy.

    3.5 & 5e spells to consider;
    Search Light
    Metal Paw
    Blood of the Predator
    Iron Flesh
    Control Plants

I don't think Rangers are the problem. I think bows are the problem. And I believe it has been a consistent issue with AD&D. But it's me so I'm probably wrong.
The blinking Drooam "backpack" is NOT a party buff. But its fun to say it is.

I did a pure ranger longbow build a bit ago, I personally was very underwhelmed by the performance level 1-29. Although... I am pretty sure that if I kept at it, level 30 ranger DPS would have been substantial. I think this is where steelstar is getting his data.

Um...Entangle and Snare are CC skills. The Master of XXX line is solely for DPS casters - specifically, for making damage SLA enhancements viable into Epic. Ranger has no enhancement SLAs. And Ranger is not unique among CC casters in getting nothing from Master of XXX either. Anyone who specs in Enchantment or Illusion is not going to have any benefit from any Master of XXX either, Transmutation is not the odd one out.

Falconry does open up options for Wis based Rangers to finally get some use out of their CC spells...but they're perfectly in line with every other CC build right now, like Warlocks and Bards.

Also, while AA is bow-only, DWS works with crossbows. So Ranger got a huge BUFF with Inquisitive.

Bows do need a boost right now so they're more viable throughout the game, especially when you're not building it around 10KS in Monkcher. But that's a problem with bows, not Ranger.

Im hoping Sharn loot includes a viable level 15 longbow alternative to the level 8 silver longbow... and one that drops in regular quests (as a solo player im locked out of raid drops) I slot Pinion at 23 (from the raiders box) and the free RL bow isn't too bad at level 29 especially if you slot sentience and buff it up with filigrees - but we really need something decent (that isn't raid locked) for late heroics.

Otherwise - AA Rangers are fine - and can be godlike with the right bow and gear.... oh and it helps if you know how to /ranger at least somewhat

One of the best bows in game is unwavering ardency. So if you can get out of that solo playstyle and find a group running Ascension Chamber raid you might be able to get one easily. Although since its a old raid not many run it anymore.

One problem is that Wild Empathy uses Charisma or Intelligence depending of the target. This should be changed to Wisdom based.

Entangle, Hold Animal and Snare are all wisdom based spells. Entangle and Snare are Transmutation spells while Hold Animal is an Enchantment spell.

Ranger spells have a max base DC of 10+4 with 14-20 Ranger levels.

I think one solution for the spells would be to add SLA's in the Deepwood Stalker tree for both Entangle and Snare and give them similar DC's to the Imbues from Arcane Archer. This could also include boosts to Transmutation DC's like there is for Enchantment in Arcane Archer.

I guess I'll have to pick up the madness chain.
Why I don't have it already - I'm not sure? I think I tried it when I VIP'd and didnt like it or thought it was too hard to solo (or is there a solo gate in it?) but that was a while back, so maybe i can /madness better now?

So the goal is to make an effective spell caster without gearing them up as one? Makes a lot of sense. When done with this please make me a tank in pure DPS gear.
