    Default EK build - please pick at it as I've never swung a pointy stick before! :o

    I've always wanted to have a dual-longsword weilding spellsword-type elf in pnp but never have managed to; I need a build to accompany a new player so elite, no reaper, but if I enjoy it and it's viable it could need to support low reaper pugs too. I have pretty much only ever played casters or ranged so I'm sure there is loads I'm not thinking about which is why I'd love some general input!
    Just a couple of extra things :
    - going for enchantment to try and block some mobs (might switch from wraith to vampire if a dc problem presents itself) when swarmed
    - 2wf dual longsword aiming at crits
    - how on earth would one fit vistani in?! (I presume daggers would be overall better if I could spend in it)
    - I know kit-tetris is going to be a nightmare!
    - 2pl's (wiz and sorc) and not many tomes (will try and have +2 all stats though at least)
    - cant seem to fit in embolden and/or wiz.pl feat - can you?! ;p

    Default My EK

    This is my attempt at an Eldritch Knight build,

    Playing this build currently on my main, which has 112 total past lives, decided that pale master wasnt going to work, because I am doing reaper. I also went THF instead of TWF, however I will say that with the elemental imbues, TWF should out dps THF in single target DPS.





    Level 25 at the moment with this DC (THIS IS NOT A MAX LEVEL DC) and this is outside of reaper.

    from another thread I learned: You pop wellspring with an extended Death Aura with a (legendary) Silverthread belt from RL. I then swap to thrumming spark or burnscar depending on dungeon. They are almost the same cooldown. The scion of fire increases crit by quite a bit. With this method you are self healing so much that the reaper penalty doesn't even matter.

    If you dont want to go the PM route, You can take those same point and get Int to DMG in harpers. I don't know that it makes a ton of difference tbh. You get self survivability or DPS, depends on your playstyle.

    Hy hotbars are
    Ring (acid or fire or neg or cold with Lore of same type) Belt of matching type - Blade stance, / Damage Spells

    1 row for Neg, 1 Row for Cold 1 for fire 1 for acid

    On the Neg bar I have
    Silverthread Belt / NE En Burst/ Death Aura / L Death Arua/ burnscar/ Thrummingspark

    Then a full on CC Row
    Neck of +DC / Knights transformation toggle / CC1 CC2 CC AOE / Knights transformation toggle

    So on and so on.

    On My main bar I have Necrotic Touch /magic missle / Edritch Strike / Tempest /glitterdust / web

    When I get to level 17 I/l'll prob swap MM for Acid Well/ Meteor/ Iceberg / Thunder


    My keyboarding skill are pretty horrid, and this type of setup just lets me go left to right depending on the situation. Im never gonna be some uber player, but this has allowed me to absolutely crush R1 for leveling.
    at around lvl 15 you have 340+ Spell power of the appropriate type equipped at all times with just 4 rings crafted from CC

    I hardly get hurt at all from melee, but I need to worry a little when I see a caster, there isnt a ton of MRR available in the trees. I try to keep an at level sheltering item mixed in there and I keep the guild resist buffs going constantly... Lightbearing champs and Clerics of all variants are highest priority due to them hitting you with light for triple damage.

    I am not seeing any reason whatsoever to go THF as glancing blows dont proc Spellsword imbue, your going to black'n-decker , mob wrecker if you go TWF as your offhand does proc it.

    I played a TWF EK wizard 20 last life, this life I am trying SWF+orb instead.

    Stats seem ok. Personally I'd ditch strength and pick up some Cha for UMD (I don't like PM so I want to have a chance at Heal scrolls asap).

    Feats:
    I took Quicken as my first metamagic feat. 1 AP in Archmage can give you Hypno. Quickened Hypnotism for 1 spell point works quite nicely early.

    Ditch Oversized TWF. It's bad. This frees a feat and allows you to take Knight's Training at 9 and ITWF at 12. I would take Maximize at some point. Damaging spells are quite strong. Maybe postpone SF:Enchantment.

    Personally I did not take IC:Slash or Overwhelming Crit. So I had room for Completionist. I used Oathblade in epics. And often Nightmother's Scepter at 29...


    One more thing. Knight's Training buffs a variety of weapons. Consider mixing it up with War Hammers, Morning Stars, or Heavy Maces if necessary.

    Banjo - so apart from the fighting style, I'd say it was pretty close to my idea; is it working well for you? Deep Gnome would have been great if I had any rap. How much higher are you expecting to get that DC by cap? Is arcane warrior worth the feat in practise? Also, why scion of air?

    Scut - I'm not big on hot-swopping kit, especially in or near battle; my optimisation leaves a lot to be desired but I'm ok with that! However, dire charge was a big forget on my part - depends on how functional the enchant dc ends up...I presume you went vampire for the dc boost? How is yours doing? Also, are you happy trading Int to dmg for vistani tree spend?

    Cru - must admit sword+orb is a contender; how is it working out compared to twf? Overszed 2wf was to have two longswords - flavour-ish, I agree - haven't done the calculations to work out if I can just suck up the to hit penalty but I'm also missing the hit on the run feat line so it would be cumulative and I'm not sure if I can risk it...with regards IC, I havent really studied the weapons I would be aiming to have so if they are keen, maybe I could swop that one out, good point. Do you use the scepter to swop for casting? arent the fighting stances/spell touch range reducing you to do that whilst in mellee? feasible?

    I updated my Bladesingers thread recently: drow, but regular elf is basically the same. Converting to TWF is simple too. I would skip OTWF or at least delay it until level 15 so you can take KT @ 6 and ITWF @ 12. Not seeing why you start with odd stats when 8/14/16/18/8/8 would work fine but whatever.

    It was super fun, although the gear tetris is a lot of work to sustain both melee and caster potential. I did end up TRing into a tiefling, so I didn't see the full potential of the end game DC yet. However, I imagine that it could easily get into the mid 80s, maybe higher? Just depends on how much melee you want to give up to make the caster work better. I mean, right off the bat, I wasn't using the +6 from thunderforged, +2 from gianthold augment, +1 yugo pot, and my intelligence item was +9 with +4 insightful, which could have been improved with cannith crafting to be 15, and 7, so can additional 9 intelligence, for a 4 DC additions. Leaves me with a 74 outside of reaper

    I am sure I am missing some benefits that could push it into the 80s, I highly doubt that the DC of a melee caster wizard would be plausible in high skull content. You could also say however, that I am lacking the DC from pale master, because I didnt use that in this build.

    As for the Scion of Air, I took it because I was playing with an air savant, and I assumed that whenever they used awaken elements I would get more lightning damage too. If I was just going at it solo, I probably would have take either the water or earth scion.

    Unbongwah - thanks; I hadn't noticed that thread before. I will probably end up drow for flavour, hadn't decided yet. The stat spread - regardless of which elf I choose - in the tertiary stats is to be refined, yup, as is the sequence in which the feats are taken. I see that you have taken harper on all the builds; what are your thoughts on getting vistani in the mix?

    Banjo - ok, tyvm for the input; I'm not interested in high reaper so with some optimisation I might be ok!

    To all, doesn't the 'tenser' graphic irk you? Wish it could be toggled off...

    In heroics, I kept toggling Transformation on and off as needed. In epics I also used Epic Defensive Fighting, so I didn't toggle those off much. At 29 I joined groups for some harder content so if I wanted to land spells, I had to use Scepter.

    Feasible? Whatcha gonna do with all those spell points, gotta cast stuff. You're a melee with under-average defenses, better have some good CC if you want to live.

    My static is on hold, Real life interrupted. WE are currently at 15. I don't have the action points yet to make a swap to final form.

    at 15 running R1 with this build is much easier than ive experienced with other builds.

    Default Ok, I went for this one

    This version (melee version of my main ) afforded me more flexibility to tweak it as I go along and, at worst, be a trapper at end game if totally gimped!
    Also O2WF can be changed for past life : wiz or other.

    If anyone is interested I'll update occasionally as it goes along.

    It is very heavy on the requirements, unless you want to do some gear swapping in combat, which isnt the smoothest experience. I wouldn't do this on any character that isnt close to being an uber completionist.

    Fact is: That DC was with Racial completionist, completionist, not to mention I couldn't fit in spell spen feats, or spell pen gear. So, having all of the spell pen last lives is required. I will say, that if I ever do it again, I would be going TWF instead of THF. Just because of the spell damage on weapon attacks. It doesn't apply to glancing blows, but it would apply to off hand strikes.

    Also, I went iconic gnome for the past life, it is doable as another race, in fact, I did this before tiefling came out, which I probably would do that instead. Having the scroll mastery in the racial tree is very nice, since with racial TRing its a free enhancement.
