Default eldritch wave broken- soul eater tree

So im not sure if anyone else is having this problem but the tier 5 ability in the souleater tree(eldritch wave), is not working as intended. it is suppose to do 3 eldritch attacks, but it is very rare that all 3 even hit at all , ( like 80% of the time) only 2 hits actually work. wondering if it is just me, or others having this same problem aswell.

I've noticed this. I wonder if eldritch wave basically sends out 3 cones (two being invisible) and then one of the cones ends up missing because the enemy is moving out of the AOE.

It's been buggy for a long as far as I know. Sometimes it does absolutely nothing even when mobs are well within range and being held by tentacles. On the plus side it's only good for the first few levels you can get it anyways. There quickly comes a point where your base spellpower numbers are high enough to offset a Maximized and Empowered Wave that has bad animation delays.

But honestly at level 12 it's just better to reset enhancements and roll with a primary Enlightened Spirit build. Temp HP refresh is still great in heroics and the 2 bursts, when Maximized and Empowered, are pretty OP. If you have solid gearing (CC light gear and the Coalescewhateveritscalled Orb) it's basically burst+burst and keep moving for anything R2ish and under.

I think it may be a larger issue. I'm currently playing a sorc and I often notice that enemies will regularly take no damage from the fireball that just exploded next to them. It's not even enemies with evasion making their saves, I would get feedback in the combat log if that was it, the game simply seems to not even register that they were in range.

I usually only have problems with eldritch wave if I am holding down left click when I try to use the ability. As long as you stop left clicking long enough to use the ability you should be fine... Further more, eldritch wave isn't the only reason that the Soul Eater / Tainted Scholar combo is more powerful than putting points into Enlightened spirt.

Honestly... I shouldn't have to baby people who are recommending enlightened spirit.
    Tier 5s Soul Eater
    1. Getting an extra finger of death.
    2. Getting more Consume and Stricken damage.
    3. Getting more spell critical chance.
You want all of the spell critical chance you can get your hands on, because tainted scholar will give you 60% more spell critical damage, with scion of fire at level 30 giving you an extra 25% giving a total of 85%.

All in all... If you put ANY points into enlightened spirit, you are seriously gimping your damage output. Sure, some people maybe say they go enlightened spirit for the survivability... But I claim bullcrap on that one. If a sorcerer and wizard can survive, (They can) then you can too. A SE/TS warlock has access to a super powerful ability that wizards and sorcerers don't, STAUNCH... This ability is super powerful, I personally never need healing throughout most content because of this. Further more... Warlocks have access to some of the best CC ability in the game... Through Tentacles and hold person mass. Whatever can't be held, it sure can be tentacled.

Not only do warlocks have some of the best CC ability & Temp HP without enlightened spirit... They also have the ability to automatically confuse enemies by just attacking them... I mean Warlocks are solo machines, and you are really shooting yourself in your own foot, if you go enlightened spirit. Because a lot of what I am talking about here, costs quite a bit of action points... Points you wont be able to spare if you invest any noticeable amount into Enlightened spirit.

We haven't even talked about Soul Eaters ability to automatically give vulnerability stacks... I dare all enlightened spirits to try to fit in the ability to give vulnerability stacks, while not giving up the other crucial elements. AKA, Extra pact damage, Passive confusion, Staunch, Critical damage, etc.

There are two things that can work it:

    1) Interruption. Don't cast it while holding down auto attack as it can interrupt the casting of Eldritch Wave. I typically stop attacks to cast consume/stricken/pulse/wave.

    2) Positioning. Moving out of range in the middle of casting will give it nothing to hit, and being too close can cause desync issues. You can see that more plainly by getting close to a target and watching your blasts shot straight in the air.

With Tiefling providing a scorch vuln, mass hold > scorch > Eldritch Wave is a pretty sick combo.

Are you using it quickened? I wonder if there is 'Meteor Swarm effect' in play...

Specifically for Eldritch Wave, yes I've noticed that it rarely hits three times. Also, I
haven't checked mathematically but eyeballing the numbers, they don't look that different to me
with/without max+emp. I've gone back to ES for L12+ heroic leveling (still carving out
racials) as the ranged abilities are just too erratic and irritating.

Since returning to the game ~2 months ago after nearly two years off, I've been incredibly
frustrated by what some others in this thread are describing. Apparent immunity of moving
mobs - particularly casters/archers, even if clearly within an AOE. Casters/archers have a
pattern of behaviour whereby they cast/shoot then will move away from the player. I can
hit these guys with AOEs, Stricken, Consume etc. and they will be unaffected. I have a
love/hate relationship with Stricken because of this issue, as I like to use it on casters/archers
but have to time it to ensure they don't move. Even if they move in the same plane as
I'm firing, and it clearly hits them, they are often unaffected. Generally, caster abilities
work better without a target as this also avoids the common 'you are not facing' message -
the game is always about 500ms behind (120ms latency reported on link). Fireballs and
blasts are much more reliable used without a hard target (a problem for the SLAs) but things
like Stricken can't be used without a target.

I totally agree, I never put any points into ES, my kill count always smokes ES based builds, my typical distribution is 42 SE & 31 TS.
