Default High Lords will host Legendary Shroud teaching raid on Saturday, January 5 at 9pm EST

    Happy New Year Sarlona!

I am very excited to announce our 6th year of teaching raids!

Since 2014, the High Lords of Malkier have hosted teaching raids for new players during the winter and spring. Every week we will host a different raid in a friendly, low stress learning environment that is designed to be welcoming to new players as well as veteran players who are new to raiding.

Raiding can be a lot of fun and it's a whole new area of the game to see and explore where we work together in 12 person groups to accomplish bigger challenges that bring us to the finales of the various storylines within DDO. Raids can also be challenging to learn in a pug environment, especially if you're new so that's one of our many inspirations to host these events. If you've been avoiding raids because you thought you weren't ready or you were intimidated by them or maybe you were turned off because you had bad experiences, then you should not shy away from our teaching raids because you are precisely who we want to reach out to for these events.

The goal is to welcome newer players into the raiding scene, to teach people how raids work, to get players more comfortable with raids, and to enhance the Sarlona community. We know there are a lot of people who have even been playing DDO for a long time and have avoided raiding. Our teaching raids are a great place to start! If you're new, this is a great time to learn! There is no level cap for any of our teaching raids. First timers welcome! Please have sound and be willing and able to follow instructions.

We will begin the 2019 series with one of DDO's classic raids: Legendary Shroud, this Saturday, January 5 at 9pm EST! Due to the high level of Legendary Shroud, we are going to set the minimum level to sign up this week at Level 24.

If you are new to Legendary Shroud, you will need to be flagged, which requires completing 2 quests in Meridia: Creeping Doom and To Curse the Sky. You can run the quests on Heroic or Legendary to flag just the same. These are different quests than are required to flag for heroic shroud. We will only be running Legendary Shroud.

Usually all spaces are spoken for by the time of the raid, so reserve your spot ahead of time! If you would like to reserve a space in this Saturday's event, please contact me in game on Voodu.

If you're feeling unsure and you want to see how we run our events, you can check out our collection of teaching raid videos in the Guides & Strategies forum that we did during the 2015 and 2017 series.

We hope to see you in raids soon!

This event will be live streamed on my twitch channel twitch.tv/vooduspyce so even if you're not on Sarlona, you can watch, learn and ask questions live.

Thank you to the community for all the support and special thanks to DDOCast for mentioning our events. We hope to see you in raids soon!

    Much love,
Gingerspyce and The High Lords of Malkier

    PS. For new players...
There is a help chat channel on Sarlona where new players can ask veteran players questions in a friendly environment. See this thread for more details and If you're new to setting up chat channels, you can check out my video How to join a chat channel and modify chat windows.

Default A successful first week of the 2019 teaching raid series!

Our inaugural teaching raid for the 2019 season went really well! We had 4 signups, including 1 person who had never done a raid before!

Unfortunately we encountered a bug where one of the signups could not enter the raid even though they were flagged. They kept getting an error message saying they couldn't enter the quest while in a raid group. Then we tried dropping and the Shroud entrance ported her into Ritual Sacrifice. I entered to confirm the bug, then I was stricken by it and could no longer enter the shroud! After trying several workarounds, including relogging and reforming group, I finally abandoned Ritual Sacrifice in my quest journal and then the Shroud entrance worked for me. Very strange! I have never encountered this bug in all the years of Legendary Shroud.

We ended up getting started pretty late due to the bug we encountered but once we got started things went really well. We just did legendary normal so that we could focus on teaching raid mechanics without stressing about staying alive. In our teaching raids we not only show how the raid works and strategies to be successful, but where appropriate we also show how things can go wrong and what to do when things go wrong.

Next in our teaching raid series will be the big xp classic Epic VON 5-6 so get flagged and you can find event details in the Sarlona forum here!
