    Default Updated Bards

So now the dust has settled with the Update tweaks, has anyone got a new improved hard build (using up to date loot).
I love my spellsinger but was thinking TRing to a warchanter. Anyone got any updated builds I can steal

I just did a 12 bard/8 fighter racial life that I took to 30 for my last enchant weapon EPL. Strength based single weapon swashbuckler, T5 warchanter, enough Kensai for 3rd core, 6 points in stalwart defender and 12 points in swashbuckling using a handaxe and buckler. It was fun and the build held its own in low to mid reaper, I definitely underestimated the power and fun of T5 warchanter and would not hesitate to make another one. Spinning ice was so much fun and kingly recovery is great for an "oh sh1t" button, hard to beat the party buffs to speed and damage as well.

Im running 16/2/2 Bard Fighter Rogue.

Tier 5 WC, Tier 4 SS and T3 SB. Basically wanted to try out all the buffs and sustaining song is worth the investment in my opinion. With the Temp HP ticking along with sustaining song, I have to do very little spot healing. Also healing undead and warforged now. Best melee CC in the game, solid heals and passable DPS.

Could go 15/3/2 and pick up stalwart but you wont be able to have sustaining song. Point starved. Could go 12/6/2 but you lose out on group heals and inspire heroics.

I feel like 16/2/2 offers the best buffs for melee, and my point split currently gives casters the 10% SP discount. I could take out the 15% run speed boost from WC to give some extra DCs to casters, but I like being fast. Haha

Currently on my 12th bard life. Playing them since way before they were cool.

Once I get more racial AP, I very much want to try an Asimar Scourge 18/1/1 Bard/FvS/fighter.

    Vistani Knife Fighter (3 AP)
    • Knife Expertise
      1. Rapid Attack
    Assassin (1 AP)
    • Knife in the Darkness
As set up above, it's very buff-oriented (I probably wouldn't play this way, but it shows how Sustaining Song can be preserved with the overall framework). To make it more melee-oriented, all you really need to do is shift points from Spellsinger/Warchanter into Vistani Knife Fighter. While this probably isn't the build you'd take into a R10 raid, it comes out of the gate reasonably fast and has a host of utility - trapping skills, evasion, self-healing, CC - that makes it fun to play either grouped or solo.

In terms of gearing, almost any Bard build is going to want the Silent Avenger set and Van Richten's Cane from Ravenloft.

Sky Pirate's Dagger and Assassin's Kiss are both decent daggers early on. There are plenty of options weapons-wise. At the very top end, you'd probably be using Pain.

I have been looking for a non-Iconic bard build for post update and I have not found many. I have been looking at this one. The only concern I see is you said "I probably wouldn't play this way." Did you just mean you would do as you suggested for going more melee-oriented, or something else? I know almost nothing about bards and this was going to be me stepping out of my comfort zone type of thing and I only need to get to 20 to start. I really want to get the feel of a bard life not just the bare min to get the past life type of thing.

I meant I would go with more of a melee focus. Ultimately, it's just too hard to gear for both spellcasting and melee.

However, I'd argue the 16/3/1 Bard/Rogue/FvS breakdown is one of the most accessible builds out there right now. It's an approach you can use without having piles of past lives and the best gear imaginable.

You can do more of a melee-focused build with an enhancement breakdown like so:

    Warchanter (38 AP)
    • Skaldic: Constitution, Weapon Training, Song of Heroism, Fighting Spirit
      1. Enchant Weapon, Rough and Ready III
      2. Iced Edges III
      3. Ironskin Chant III, High Spirits I, Frozen Fury III, Charisma
      4. Reckless Chant III, Northwind III
      5. Chant of Power III, Howl of the North, Spinning Ice III

    Vistani Knife Fighter (23 AP)
    • Knife Expertise, Knife Juggler, Knife Specialist
      1. Mist Stalker, Rapid Attack
      2. Bleeding Cuts, Mist Stalker, Haste Boost III
      3. Fan of Knives, Mist Stalker, Charisma
      4. Celerity, Single Dagger

    Swashbuckler (14 AP)
    • Confidence, Swashbuckling, Uncanny Dodge
      1. On Your Toes III, Tavern Shanties I
      2. En Pointe II, Fast Movement
      3. Skirmisher, Smooth Flourishes

    War Soul (4 AP)
    • Smite Foe: Melee
      1. Divine Presence III

    Assassin (1 AP)
    • Knife in the Darkness

Cool, I just finished creating my new rogue.. soon to be bard

Do you have a lvling guide as far as order to add the enhancements? or is it more to personal preference? If there is one thing I have learned about Bard builds it is you need to have a plan..

Since you can re-arrange enhancements easily if you find yourself going the wrong direction, it's entirely possible to make that part of the build up as you go along. The 'plan' is far more about skill points, classes, etc. - the invariant parts of the build that you can't alter easily.

However, for the 16/3/1 breakdown above, you'd roughly proceed as:

#1: Knife in the Darkness from Assassin.

    #2: Smooth Flourishes from Swashbuckler.

#3: Rapid Attack from Vistani Knife Fighter.

    #4: Frozen Fury from Warchanter.

From this point on, you're probably best off prioritizing Warchanter over Vistani Knife Fighter until level 16 (when you can finally put points into Divine Presence from FvS).

Dexterity to hit, Charisma to damage. Going Dexterity on both is problematic because for most of the game you're more concerned about landing Frozen Fury (and potentially some spells like Otto's Sphere) than you are hitting mobs.
