Default New Fighter build, need help

This guy is a Fighter 20, SnB Half-Orc. The intent is to have a toon that does good dps, but good survivability. This is not meant to be a tank. I do a lot of solo runs with Cleric hirelings to heal me. I'm a returning player, so I want to up my skills before I start doing PUGs. Any tips and suggestions greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Thing you need to consider on Dexterity is your Max Dexterity Bonus potential. http://ddowiki.com/page/Maximum_dexterity_bonus

This is effected by the Armor you wear as well as the Shield you use.

While any Dexterity Modifier will still benefit your reflex save. Your MDB will limit what benefit you will gain that can be applied to your AC as well as your Dodge. To maximize your abilities you want to determine based on your gear what your Maximum benefit is going to be and then match your dexterity modifier to meet that and potentially not exceed by too much. As the points in other abilities may have a greater return on investment. Such as having a 10 Int will grant you 23 more skill points over the life of your character

Next on Skills don't end them on .5's skills are rounded down not up.

My general thoughts on making a pure fighter are that using a sword and board style for a heroic only fighter is probably less fun and less effective than going with a two weapon or two handed weapon fighter. The strength of the vanguard tree is in its level 20 cap stone enhancement. Even that is less useful lately than it used to be. Soloing with a healing hire focusing on your aoe dps is king. I would recomend a two handed weapon fighting half ork who uses blunt or slashing weapons. If you have say a sword of shadows it is a great option. if you have nothing good in the two handed weapon department I would farm night revels for the level 4 and level 12 great club you can craft there, add a couple of ghost bane augments and go bludgeoning.

Enhancements, heavy kensai, secondary stalwart, and some more offense for two handed weapons from half orc.

The two handed weapon fighting line and the power attack cleave, great cleave line and the bludgeoning or slashing feats with a heavy armor master and champion feat to fill out the feat list.

Since you only want to go heroic, splashing 2 cleric and picking up strength domain, divine might with that +7 charisma tome and magic missile blocking night shield is a superior build IMO. If it turns out you want to run epics the 18/2 split is still solid but maybe a half step behind a pure fighter with the way power surge works now.

S&B Fighters are tank-ish - you're trading a weapon for defense, so even if you aren't going whole-hog, that's the way you're leaning.

Have you thought about going Pali instead? Or a Pali splash/multi? That's a natural to add a lot of D to S&B.

But Heavy Armor alone is a big improvement in survivability - don't feel you need a shield just because. Less DPS = slower killing = longer soloing.

Yeah, if planning to TR, planning for an 18-level build will get you there faster, b/c you won't see 20 capstone except for a ~very~ short while at the very end, and even any 18 capstone will be short-lived.

I already have a dps twf and he is very vulnerable to magical attacks. This guy can take a hit and deal a lot of damage, but he cant jump worth ****.

I may re-roll him with more INT as someone suggested above for more skill points that I can put into Jump.
