this is just something i came up with while reading the wiki, souleater is just a weapon i picked as an example so i could see the buffs i get from having a staff in the build editor, don't know if this will be good in reaper but i generally don't play reaper anyway.

so yeah if this is actually playable in solo i'll probably end up playing it, just looking for feed back since i know how complex the game is and i tend to overlook important stuff

Off the top of my head:

You don't take any of the THF feats, one big benefit of using two-handed weapons are the glancing blows that deal damage to enemies other than your main target. The THF line improves that damage by quite a bit.
As I recall, deflect arows only procs once every 6 seconds at most. You can drop that, it's just not worth it.
Toughness used to be the feat to take in the past, nowadays not so much. It's far from bad, but there are better feats available.
I think (but am not sure) that Combat Expertise is mostly useful if you're going for particular tanky(?) builds in Legendary Dreadnought. My opinion is that, unless you're going for something very specific, Precision (and sometimes Power Attack) is the better combat stance feat to take.
Improved Feint is nice, but there are better things to take, like the THF line of feats.
I'm mostly sure Shillelagh only works with wooden staves, and many of the best QStaves are not wooden. Maybe drop druid for fighter and another feat instead?
You start with 10 str and 16 dex. Both Thief-Acrobat and Ninja Spy let you use dexterity to determine your to-hit and damage with q-staves, If you're set on not taking the THF line of feats (which require strength) you're better off putting your points into dex.
Speaking of Ninja Spy, the level 6 core gives you 25% incorporeality for 1 minute which is a HUGE boost to damage avoidance. See if you can free up the points to take it.
Whirlwind Attack works best with handwraps, for any other weapon Cleaves are every bit as good. While the dodge from the pre-requisite feats is useful, it's possible to hit the dodge cap without too much trouble even without them. Personally I wouldn't take the whole line unless I were specifically going for WWA on an unarmed monk or had WAY more feats than I knew what to do with.
You only take Imp Crit at level 24. That is TOO LATE. Take it earlier, it's a significant increase to your damage.
I've never really tried First Blood, but it looks kinda meh. You get one larger hit in, and then it's all normal hits, I think the increase to dps is negligible. Maybe it can be paired with Fury of the Wild and be somewhat effective, but I don't know if it multiplies with Adrenaline.

I just checked the wiki, and it's actually difficult to find a named quarterstaff that isn't wood, so no problem there, I have plenty of weapons to choose from.

I knew from the start i'd be missing out on THF, fortunately thief acrobat includes aoe attacks, and even a small chance of glancing blows, which i think compensates nicely. It also gives me dex to damage, and to hit, as said and plays nicely with monk which has no dex limit on ac.

I picked whirlwind attack mainly because i thought it looked good and couldn't see cleave on the feat list, but I guess i can replace that line with something else if i find a better alternative, any suggestions?

i made a few changes, shifted the feats around, and added some gear. didn't add augments to the gear because i don't fully understand them, but it still helps to show what this build can do when it's fully geared up, 49 ac and a staff that deals 4.50[1D6]+44 + 2D4 Fire + 2D6 Negative on hit seems pretty good to me, not sure how many things can beat that, but it seems ok for something that i cooked up based on a random idea rather than actual min-maxing.

I picked whirlwind attack mainly because i thought it looked good and couldn't see cleave on the feat list, but I guess i can replace that line with something else if i find a better alternative, any suggestions?
Two things: There are a lot of good quarterstaffs that aren't wood, the ones I use:
    1) Chieftain's Spear
    2) Theurgic Stave
    3) Greensteel
    4) Light Unending

Those three get me through Heroics. Yes, there could be more in Epics, but I primarily use
    1) Sirith
    2) Thunder-Forged
    3) Epic Bone Crusher

As for Cleave not being on the Feat List, it has a pre-requisite of Power Attack, so you would need to take that as well.

power attack requires strength but thankfully thief acrobat has a trip cleave that uses dex for it's dc instead of strength.

light unending is listed as wood on the wiki, and it is an awesome staff

That 20x2 crit profile makes it kind of meh.

For heroic leveling, the gold standard is Elemental Bloom: ML7, 18-20x3. It's wood, so that's good if you need a wooden staff, but it's wood, so that's bad if you don't want it to shatter into a million pieces towards the end of every quest due to item damage being so ridiculous for quarterstaffs.

Non-wooden quarterstaffs take more damage than regular weapons, but they're in the ballpark. Wooden staffs, unfortunately, take far more damage than regular weapons. So much so that you really want multiple backup staffs in your inventory for when you primary snaps in half. Adamantine rituals help but won't solve the underlying problem.

Regarding feats, I would definitely take the THF line. For me personally, I much prefer precision to power attack for a stick build, and so I typically skip the cleaves. But that's even more reason to take all three THF feats. (EDIT: I don't see precision in your feat list, but I might have missed it. Definitely take precision.)

Precision is something I can add easily enough, though THF requires too much strength and would mean lowering one of my main stats, I'll definitely look at ways to reduce how often my staff breaks in half though.

Also the crit profile of any staff becomes better in this build, so I just have to worry about the other stats.

I would mix some fighter levels in there instead of druid, you get more feats and be able to use the item wear mitigation in one of the fighter trees. All qstafffs wear like crazy, esp the wood staffs. And as mentioned above the elemental bloom will make things juc easier from level 7 to 20. As an alternative for the fighter splash, take a level or sorc or wiz which also has damage mitigation in one of their trees. Also with a few levels of fighter you will get more feats.

Rogue 12-13 / monk 6 / <third class> 1-2 is one of the classic staff build templates. Lower DPS than the rogue 18 / monk 2, but some perks like Shadow Veil help make up for it.

Your build has some serious issues, though.
    • You start out STR 10 but put your level-ups into STR. Yet your base WIS is unusually (some might say unnecessarily) high. This is considered a suboptimal approach to one's stats.
    • No THF chain due to low STR even with level-ups into STR.
    • No Improved Sneak Attack epic feat due to DEX being too low.
    • Whirlwind Attack is just a bad feat for weapon builds, I'm afraid. The 5-feat cost is too high and there's this annoying delay in the animation.
    • No Power Attack / Cleave / Great Cleave chain which is both cheaper and better than WWA, IMO.
    • Shillelagh is a nice perk for wooden staves; but as mentioned, a lot of the best named staves are non-wooden. So it's not the worst choice, but there are possibly better options than druid splash these days.

One, maybe two of those issues on a first-lifer might not be such a big deal, particularly as you're stat-constrained. All of them together makes this build weaker than it needs to be, though.

If you're going DEX-based, then go DEX-based, but don't waste so many pts in WIS. Something like STR 13 / DEX 17 / CON 14-16 / INT 12-16 to start with level ups into DEX. You'd still have to skip the THF chain in this case, but could swap WWA for PA/CL/GC chain; and add Imp Sneak Atk in epic levels.

It's pure rogue, but see my halfling Acrobat thread.
Major build threads: Axesinger / Dwarven Defender / Drow Ninja / Drow Paladin / Elven Ranger / Monkcher / Sacred Vanguard / Cleric Domains / Kundarak Brigade / Iconic Builds

Really, when I go there http://ddowiki.com/page/Item:Light_Unending It says "Flamedtouched Iron", which is what it is.

oh crud, i was sure i took all levels in dex, stupid miss click in the build editor, i took wis because of monk, but i suppose can get a lot of that from gear, the stats and feat rework mean a huge change to the build, oh well the build was just a gimmicky idea i had to begin with I'll make some adjustments to it

edit: swapping druid for anther class completly breaks my skill point distribution, even if i do manage to free up some ap to reduce item wear, but it was easy enough to add cleaves in i guess

Elf for the extra DEX and Dragonmark feat: I'm giving up some DPS for Displacement and a cool glowing tattoo. I swapped druid for wizard: free metamagic feat (in this case Extend to go with elf Dragonmarks), extra Cleave attack, and Item Defense (as someone mentioned, staves wear out quickly so this actually does help). If you wanted more AC, Improved Mage Armor will also be a boon; though naturally, you gotta free APs for that from somewhere else.

I'm on the fence about whether tier-5 Acrobat or Henshin is better these days, but that's simply a matter of swapping APs around. Another perk is high run speed and high stealth speed: the monk and Acrobat fast movement bonuses stack for a total of +23% base runspeed; and the Assassin & Ninja Stealthy enhancements stack together too.

No THF feat chain - lack of slots and low base STR - but like I said, compromises have to be made somewhere on a first-lifer.

A few words about Improved Feint: it functions like an AoE Bluff which renders mobs in front of you vulnerable to sneak attacks. So the idea is Feint first, followed by your Cleaves to get sneak attacks on your targets before the effect wears off. The annoying thing is there's a small delay between using the Feint ability and the Bluff effect proccing; if you attack before the effect procs, you lose the Feint attempt and don't get sneak attacks. So learning to master the timing is part of playing this build.

guess i went there before someone edited it, all the staves were just wood by default and no-one noticed.

Another perk is high run speed and high stealth speed, because the Assassin & Ninja Stealthy enhancements stack together.

So learning to master the timing is part of playing this build.
oh this awesome, yeah didn't think about putting the splash later in the build since it previously relied on splashing at the start, and yeah if i'm not taking at least t4 in both tree, acrobat is probably the better tree to go t5 in because of it's dex based aoe attacks that allow me to trip groups of enemies with an attack similar to cleave and dash through groups of enemies while hitting them all.

and yeah i like dragon marks so this builds way better.

ok went into the build editor and rearranged the classes to get the second acrobat core a bit earlier, for some reason the ap didn't add up properly so i had to rearrange that as well but i ended up getting a huge amount of dodge and when i added some level 20 gear in the build editor it ended up a lot stronger than the build i started with (twice as much dodge for example)

So a few things to take into consideration from someone who's done a couple of stick builds including the whirling stick of truth as well as a druid-pastlife stick build (with splashes of rogue and monk for quarterstaff enhancements).

    1) With only 1 level of druid; the buffs they get are quite short duration and annoying to recast. Although still fairly effective.
    2) Glancing blows are nice; having 17 strength (tomes included) is a good idea by about level 10ish so that you can get to two handed weapon feats.
    3) Power attack/cleave/greatcleave are fairly effective for stick builds (and THF builds in general); and combine well with sweeping strikes from theif acrobat.
    4) I like using dexterity for damage so keeping that high is nice. Combines well with reflex save and evasion; AC and dodge.
    5) Shillelagh is; unfortunately typed as the same bonus as deadly weapons. This means that you'll gain no bonus in a group with an artificer; and (If like me you took the upgrade which requires 6 druid levels); an artificer casting deadly weapons on you can actually lower your DPS until you recast Shillelagh. With my druid life I was able to use wooden staves for most levels; although once I hit 23 I started using the Sireth, which is so powerful it's better then any other option at that level even though I wasn't getting +2[w] with it.

And note that the standard 20 rogue, 20 monk and 18/2 splits are all strong stick builds, if you haven't done many stick splits before; you might want to start with the tried and true.

I think my own first-lifer stick build I started as a 20 rogue with 16 str 16 dex 12 con 12 int; first level up in str rest of level ups in dex; focusing dex/con/int with items.

Unfortunately, the rogue 12+ builds also want DEX 21 for Improved Sneak Attack. As this is a first-lifer with no tomes, I chose to sacrifice THF chain and stick with DEX-based.

Fair point; but with the stat spread I proposed; it is possible to get to dex 21 with no tomes.
16 (starting) + 5 (level 8, 12, 16, 20, 24 stat ups) = 21 dex at level 24; in time for Improved sneak attack... or do you need the dex at level 23 to get the feat at level 24? In which case a +1 tome or a dex race would be required. (Level 21 feat is typically used for overwhelming critical anyways).

Alternately, if the account has MotU (and thus wants epic levels) they may also have enough content to get to 1750 favor before level 24; which would allow them to get a +2 tome for free; making the stat requirement pretty easy to hit.

is that included with VIP membership? I got VIP because it's cheaper than buying everything individually, at least in the short term, though I do have a severe case of alt-itis that has so far hampered my ability to gather favour (i don't even have drow, and i've been playing for a few weeks now)
