    Default Update 39 Preview 2: Loot

    Sentient Jewels
    Below are the new sentient jewels which will have a chance to drop in the chests within Update 39 quests (exact distribution TBD but likely only endchests to match typical named loot). Like all preview Sentient Jewel's, each of these is a new personality with a full suite of fully voiced lines with no mechanical differences to other Sentient Jewels. If you find that you like one of the flavor/personality of one of these new Jewels better than the one that you have already spent time leveling up you may simply feed your old Jewel to one of these and absorb all of the Sentient XP the other Jewel had accumulated. The three new Jewels are as follows:

    NOTE: These Sentient Jewels are not available in Preview 1 (as the voice recording has not yet been completed). We've listed them here to head off the questions about whether they will exist.

    • Sentient Jewel of Blackrazor A personality with an insatiable hunger for souls.
    • Sentient Jewel of Wave A personality with a love of sailing and the sea.
    • Sentient Jewel of Whelm A Dwarf personality with a long-standing grudge against Giants.

    Sentient Spark
    The following is a special named item that can be obtained in Update 39 which can be consumed by a Sentient Weapon. When a Sentient Weapon consumes this spark, it's maximum number of attainable Filigree slots increases by 1. The 8th slot will still need to be unlocked by feeding the weapon more named loot.

    • Spark of Memory: A spark of thought, captured and infused with sentient power. Feed this spark to your Sentient Item to increase the maximum number of filigree slots by one. The slot will not be available until the item is empowered with Sentient XP.

    Sentient Filigree
    Below are the new sentient filigree which will have a chance to drop in all places that other filigree can drop (U37-Present chests). In addition to the filigree below all previous filigree will also have a chance of dropping in U39 chests.

    Frozen Wanderer Filigree Set
    • When 2 pieces are equipped: +5% Cold Spell Crit
    • When 3 pieces are equipped: +10 Magical Resistance Rating Cap
    • When 4 pieces are equipped: Cold Mastery: Gain 50 Cold Spellpower. Melee and Ranged attacks get 4d6+1d6 per epic character level in Cold damage. This effect will not stack with other Sentient weapon procs.

    Below are the named items for Update 39. The quests for this update, and their named loot, are positioned at a variety of different levels. This has been done for a number of reasons (including to both fill out the low-mid epics which are lacking in both depth of content and named loot) but we recognize that it will make parsing the information contained below more difficult. We have separated the named loot into categories based on their minimum level ranges and we ask that you try to keep those in mind when evaluating any individual item.

    Echo of Blackrazor Great Sword

    • Stealer of Souls Blackrazor hungers for the Souls of those you have defeated. On a Vorpal hit with this weapon, Blackrazor will absorb some of its Soul, draining one level from the target. When you strike the killing blow on an enemy, Blackrazor retains one Defeated Soul, up to a maximum of 5/20. Each Defeated Soul grants you +1 Profane bonus to Melee Power and +1 Profane bonus to Damage. If you block or unequip Blackrazor, the Defeated Souls will be released. Defeated Souls last for 30 seconds.

    • Whelming Shockwave This weapon reverberates with incredible power. On Vorpal, this weapon triggers a Shockwave, striking its target with bludgeoning damage and dealing damage to surrounding enemies.
    • Blunt Trauma This weapon is incredibly dense and delivers especially powerful blows. When rolling a 19 or 20 on a melee attack, your critical multiplier is increased by +1.
    • Boneshatter This weapon is powerful enough to shatter the bones of those it strikes. On an attack roll of 20 which is confirmed as a critical hit, the weapon breaks multiple bones in the target's body, causing significant impairment. Creatures with skeletons take 10d6/40d6 damage and will have their movement and attacks slowed by 25% and their attack damage reduced by 25% when their bones are shattered.

    Default Crystal Cove Revamp

    Event Changes
    Crystal Cove has changed slightly to make it much easier for participants to earn the event items, which include a few new weapons and redesigned favorites. The Cove itself now scales up to level 35, and a new tier of gem drops at the highest levels.

    Turn those new gems in for level 28 versions of the Cove's loot. When the event is underway, you can speak to Euphonia to exchange any old items for new versions, but any augments or Sentient Gems won't be transferred to the new version.

    In the event itself, the rare tier of gems no longer drop, and items no longer require rare gems to acquire. Furthermore, rather than upgrade each item tier, each item out of the box is fully upgraded. If you'd like to use a legacy version of the Cove loot, you can find the old turn-in in a dusty corner in the Tavern in Smuggler's Rest.

    Default Phiarlan Carnival Loot Revamp

    The Phiarlan Carnival adventure pack quests have had their loot revamped. This revamp is in the same vein as the recent Red Fens loot revamp in that it brings all items onto the modern standard of scaling effects. It will impact all future loot dropped from the quests but will not alter any items that players have already pulled from the Phiarlan Carnival pack before the update goes live.

    Note, some Phiarlan Carnival items do not appear on this list because they have not recieved a revamped version (because they didn't need one). If you don't see an item on this list it is because the item will remain the same when U39 goes live.

    "On crit" damage versus creatures that are immune to criticals?
    You can still critically hit things that are immune to critical hits - it triggers things like old style bursts and on-crit effects. Also we have a lot of ways to reduce enemy fortification, so actually critting a slime is possible.

Even with that... some people would say it would still not be worth giving up an offhand weapon... but it least it's usable for something other than a damage reduction clicky.

    You can only have one DR bypassing AA toggle active at a time. If a bow is Aligned, it means the AA can focus on bypassing different DR, or get bonus Doubleshot with Shadow Arrows.

    Is there a reason that the Medium Armor's Fire Shield is strictly better than the other two? It's always on (useful for traps/lava etc) vs requiring a proc from getting hit/missed.

    Also, shouldn't the Heavy Armor also have a on-miss effect? Given that the point of heavier armor is to protect you more?

    I plan on using it exclusively for the clicky on casters and non-casters alike. It's been a long time since there was a 2H caster stick worth using, and given their mandate towards 4 effects per item it'd have to be a spectacular item to have 4 effects be better than 8 of two sticks.

    Caster staves have 6 effects, Wave included, and the spell will dispel itself when Wave leaves your hands*.

    * not quite working for Lamannia but will be working for live.

    You had one job on this dagger. It was to make a generalist dagger that non-assassin's would like. Throwing Hide and Move Silently on it defeats that purpose. Since it's a dagger made out of wood; why not give it the blunt DR breaker and swap one of those effects out for Fracturing for some additional blunt damage procs. In my opinion weapons should never have equipment gear type bonuses; the hide and move silently should be swapped out for actual weapon effects.


    And lastly can we please get the Calvary Plate swapped to Darkwood now? I'd love to be able to use the new version on my druid since it's confirmed to be heavy armor instead of medium now.

    From inside Lammania right now...

    Both *new* cloth armors when equipped still leave the character NAKED.

    All *new* armors use either Ravenloft icons or old random gen icons for the two cloth armors.

    Muck's Obliteration, Celestial Beacon, and both *new* bows use Ravenloft Morninglord/Nightmother appearances instead of anything new or unique.

    I don't play much other than monks. I have characters that are other classes but the amount I use them might hit 1% of my DDO play time. I've been playing monks since long before monks were the FotM, and even with the nerfs, I will keep playing them until I'm done with DDO.

    This Shadowshimmer Cladding is obviously targeted at monks. The Spell Resistance and Lesser Displacement are really nice, but giving up the Enhanced Ki on the Sun Soul and Spider-spun outfits makes this a really **** trade off. As ****** as the MotU armors in today's game, that Enhanced Ki makes them virtually irreplaceable. Without Enhanced Ki, Sun stance is the only stance that has reasonable Ki generation, but Sun stance is, at best, pretty ****** for surviving in most epic dungeons.

    That +1 Enhance Ki may look like a minor bonus, but without it, as a fist monk, you are completely Ki starved or getting wrecked because you lack the defenses from Mountain or Ocean. With it, you can actually use a stance other than Sun, stay alive, and throw in more than just Stunning Fist, Fist of Light, and FoL finishers without staring at yellow bar and wondering where the yellow is.

    Edit: I'm not bothering to mention staff monks because after the nerfs you changed playing one into an exercise in masochistic frustration.

    not all rangers are AA's. aligned is actually pretty useful if you are a Tempest build and need all the help you can get with bows whenever you need to pull one out.

    Default For those that can't run Lammania...

    This is the Heavy Armor on Lammania it is labeled Confiscated Heavy Mail not Diamond Sigiled Full Plate as per the notes:





    Medium Armor, on Lammania labeled Coldharbor Cladding not Emerald Sigiled Halfplate as per the notes:





    Light Armor, on Lammania labeled Illicit Warding not Ruby Sigiled Longcoat as per the notes:





    The effects match the notes just not the names. Also repeating here that the inventory icons are Ravenloft armor icons.

    Neither cloth armor would appear when equipped on my female half orc instead she was left NAKED, however at least the cloth armors have the right names attatched to their icons according to the notes.

    And this... which I have no idea what this is... although it looks like a villainous version of the above cosmetics in black and red.
