    Default Crafting Tips & Tricks!

Not a thorough list or anything too detailed, just neat little tricks that may help to remember that might make your crafting journey easier!

    - Deconstructing items will net you a minute amount of Crafting XP! You'll get there eventually!

    - Need a Soul Gem, but don't have an Arcane caster handy? Grab Grobbin Halfhitch, the Wizard 20/Magister 1 Hireling who knows Trap the Soul!

    - If you manage to get 75 House Cannith Favor, you can buy +10% Crafting XP Potions and +10% Crafting Success Booster from the House Cannith vendor next to the patron! Just take one of the elevators up to the platform in the sky! This vendor also sells Marks of House Cannith for Extra Slots in Crafted Items.

    - A character gains a +1 Crafting Level for every 2 Artificer Levels! These levels are lost whenever the Artificer levels are also lost.

    - A Human with the Cannith Dragonmark of Making initially gains +3 Crafting Levels when taking the Least Dragonmark of Making Feat. This can be increased to +6 with Lesser Dragonmark via Human Enhancements, and up to +10 with Greater Dragonmark Enhancement.

    - The Cannith Crafting Tutorial can be done once per character life. After finishing the tutorial, you can get a very useful +75% Crafting XP Potion for free!

    - Not all of your characters have to be good at crafting, just one! The items turn up Bound to Account, so one character can make all the needed items for your other characters!

    - Skill and Ability Tomes can be traded in for Purified Eberron Dragonshards! Even if you ever happen to get any from Daily Dice or as a 1500 Total Favor Reward that you don't need, and can't trade away to anyone who needs it, convert it to Purified Eberron Dragonshards instead! Other Eberron Dragonshards can also be traded for Purified Eberron Dragonshards, if needed.

    - You can put Metalline and Aligned on the same weapon to make an all-purpose DR Breaker (Barring Slash, Bludgeon or Piercing DR, of course)!

    - Flametouched Iron Weapons are very convenient, as they provide Good damage without needing to use a shard for it! Metalline Flametouched Iron Weapons of Evil Outsider Bane is one of this Crafter's favored weapons to craft (Flametouched Iron Weapons readily available in Chronoscope's Rusty Nail vendor, comes in Bastard Sword, Battleaxe, Dagger, Greataxe, Greatsword, Heavy Mace, Long Sword, Rapier, Scimitar and Short Sword).

    - Sometimes you'll loot Craftable Trinkets from random chests, but unneeded Shards of Power (Tier 1, looted from Heroic Shroud or infrequently in Devil Assault) can be Disjuncted to act as a Craftable Trinket, however these Trinkets will be minimum level 13 to start with even before you apply a minimum level shard.

    - Unneeded Cannith Crafting Shards can be put through a Deconstructor to salvage 10% of the Essences used, though this will not result in more Crafting XP, sadly.

    Edited for correction.

Just a random, forgettable NPC doing things an NPC does
Things that NPCs do include, but are not limited to:

Having a gold goblet over my head to indicate availability of a quest
Having a catchphrase that never really catches on
Having various rewards that are generally not worth the trouble
    Wandering around randomly
Giving out obvious information if it wasn't obvious enough
Repeating the same lines over and over again
Repeating the same lines over and over again

Great list. Had totally missed a couple of those. Kudos!!

Favor and daily dice tomes are bound to account and so cannot be traded - if your toons cannot use it, it is purified shard fodder

Unless they have changed this recently, only standard shards of power can be deconstructed in this fashion - greater and supreme shards cannot be disjuncted.

ML/2 until max 5 cxp per deconstructed item.

Here clearly present exploit with recycling chars, but currently SSG not count it as exploit, so you actually can recycle char for take 2 75% Crafting XP Elixir ( enough for lvlup to 340 ) and as many 25% chance potion as you want. For 2 75 % Crafting XP Elixir and 100 25% chance potions you need recycle only 22 times, it's about 1.5-2 hours if iconic chars available ( slightly longer if not ).

Shards of Power (Any type, looted from Heroic Shroud or infrequently in Devil Assault) can be Disjuncted to act as a Craftable Trinket!
Wrong, not any type, only simple Shard of Power, not Great and not Supreme. Furthermore, it's can be only ML13 and higher.

Not approximately - exactly 10% afaik.

    Great list!

Also, don't forget that the Crafting tutorial can be run on your bank characters and alts. Go get those XP boosts and big success shards! They're BTA, so you can toss them in the bank for your crafting character.

Another tip: Running on an alt toon (Seldissin on Thelanis) I deconstructed all items that I was not saving and ended up with 40,000+ essence and a Crafting Level of 103. My main (Mornyngstar on Thelanis) is already a Level 400 Crafter but this shows that for the essence gathering, you can rack up some free levels.
My 2 mains are Mornyngstar and Seldissan on Thelanis but I also have toons on all servers with those names. Any toon that has Mornyngstar Clan as their last name is most likely me.

Since you do not get much in heroics in terms of essences, I would wait for epics to do this. Otherwise it is soul draining.

    - Need a Soul Gem, but don't have an Arcane caster handy? Grab Grobbin Halfhitch, the Wizard 20/Magister 1 Hireling who knows Trap the Soul!
Use the Lord of Eyes for the soul gems of elementals for the addy ritual! Go to where the earth ones spawn.

This can be achieved painfully by running the challenges with daily tokens, for those who do not have access to the packs. On the bright side, you can try to get a lowbie bracers of wind and frozen tunic.

    - A character gains a +1 Crafting Level for every 2 Artificer Levels! These levels are lost whenever the Artificer levels are also lost.

See Ellisdee's cookbook thread for a great list.

Ah, nice tip. I rolled up an Iconic wizard just for soul gems, but the hireling doesn't take up a character slot.

I want to add that while the 75% XP potions are bound to Account, the 25% success boosters are BTC.

Also, use those crafting boosters only when the base chance is 3% for the bestest results.

At 3% chance, crafting an item gives roughly 33 times the xp of crafting a single item. Normally, you'd fail a lot in the process, and end up breaking even. With crafting boosters, this formula becomes VERY advantageous. Using a bit under 4 boosters per item (3 if you're using the best store-bought 35% ones), you're multiplying the xp earned so much you should be getting 10 or more crafting levels PER SUCCESSFUL ITEM.

At that level of experience gain, to make sure you're always crafting the best item you could, you're best left closing the UI and opening it again.

I spent 340 DDO points to get from 0 to max using this method. Cost me about 40 thousand essences, and a little under 30 minutes of my time.

They were BTA when I leveled my dualbox crafter. Has it changed since then?

Got to disagree with you here. Crafting a trinket via shard can only be done with a Shard of Great Power. At least it used to.

Also, the old CC allowed you to then put masterful craftsmanship on it making it ml 11. Also, perhaps not anymore.

It's just regular shards, not greater or supreme. As far as I'm aware, this has always been the case.

Still BtA. Was BtC until U32. Old stuff in bank or TR cash mebbe can still BtC, but must becomes BtA when moved to char inventory. 8)

It's always been the Shards of Pwer (small shards). The Shards of Great Power and Shards of Supreme Power have never worked in Cannith Crafting.

Not as many essences, no, but you get the maximum crafting XP (5) for any ML8 or ML9 item. I don't remember where the break point is, but either 8 or 9 is well before epics. From ML1 to either 8 or 9 you'll earn 1-4 crafting XP per item.
You can easily get a character to over 100 crafting XP just by deconstructing items, while also stockpiling your essences for a binge of crafting.

Another reward option is 5 +25% success boosters. And since all the rewards are BtA you'll want to run all of your characters through the tutorial and take the XP potion once and the success boosters with every other character. You can move your crafting XP from ~100+ (which you earned from deconstructing items) to ~300+ in a single 30 minute session using one +75% Crafting XP potion as long as you have ~40k-50k essences and a pile of +10% and +25% success boosters. So more than one potion is unnecessary.
You can also buy a +100% crafting XP potion and +30% success boosters from the store.

You can also get these craftable trinkets from the Risia festival (a random but not terribly uncommon reward for coin turn-ins) and from the store.

And since making Minimum Level shards is the most efficient use of materials for increasing your crafting skill, crunching these back down for more essences is the way to go.

    Here's one more tip:

You can get some platinum back from deconstructing items. So if just offered a bunch of junk you might take the one which offers you the most platinum on top of essences. Any item with a number in the upper right hand corner will give (60 plat * that number) when deconstructed. Some few items don't follow the 60 * formula, but I haven't seen any pattern as to why. Almost all items which return platinum will be armor (including robes and docents) and weapons, but you will find the occasional accessory with the number.
