    Default Mourning Sword--Fallen Aasimar Fighter

    01-29-2018
Scourge Version can be found in post 16.

This is a modification of my Swords of Mourning build, a human twf kensei. This one is an Aasimar SWF build, dropping dex by 2, it can really be dumped if you wish, for higher wisdom for a bigger Healing Hands multiplier. Been soloing R3s with it, level 10 now, but I don't expect the average player to do that, however, I do feel an average player can achieve decent survivable pure fighter without all the stats and tomes I have listed, but none of it is needed unless you wish to convert it to TWF. The feat difference between my human TWF and this is magical training, which is picked back up in the Aasimar racial tree. AP differences lose 10% run speed, some AC, and +6 strength in stance. The strength is made up during boss fights or when needed with an additional 5% doublestrike.

Healing Hands: Aasimar core gives you 7 uses. You get on back every 3 minutes. So in a 15 minute quest after first suspended charge you get 11 uses. It heals using Character Level^Wisdom Ability Score^Healing Amp. I am getting 400 and something at 10, around 80 in R3.

Note on Aasimar Divine Form: It stays permanently toggled on, but auto toggles off between quests and after shrines. It appears on, but you have to manually turn it back on as it states. Takes 2 seconds and hasn't been a big deal. It also does not expend 30 spell points. I am not sure if it is a permanent toggle or a type of SLA, though it just needs to be fixed to be a permanent ability. It does grant all the properties in its description.

If you don't have 3 racial AP, take them from Stalwart. Tier 3 Strength and Instinctive Defense. If you have more racial AP than me, fill things as you like.

**Note on stats. They're not set in stone until I see how gear ends up at 30. You can dump dex for +1 wisdom and +1 con or int. I started 14 con just because I have +2 Con from Racial PLs, and 13 wisdom as I have +1 Wisdom from Racial PL Human. When I did initial calculations I was coming out even starting at 9/11/13. I didn't want to go 15. 1 FvS would be nice to dump dex and start 11 intel and 16 wisdom, but alas, I don't want to give up Kensei capstone. That's a lot of double strike. 9 PL+ 11 Equipment +15 capstone +4 Kensei cores nets me 39% DS at 21. Reaper strike gives another 30 for 69% against bosses or mobs with a lot of champions.

A separate build theory for a MC would be 12 Ftr/4-6 FvS/2-4 whatever you feel is useful. Ellisdee's Kensei Warpriest for New Players isn't a bad build for solo play either. I check there if you're wanting something more friendly with trusted healing.

    Edit: January 17, 2019

This is the triple completionist updated version of the build. I will have gear updated by the end of the month. A lot of the above is a lot better now. New Epic Defensive Fighting Feat Frees up different path. More Strength and Con or Armor or HAMP. Whatever you'd like. I went with Bonus AC for now. I'll probably end up using +6 Con.

Gear is 3 piece Leg. Crypt Raider's set, 5 pieces Mists set, Precision Lenses, Executioner's Helm and a Cannith Crafted ring. I like to link gear, so this will take me some time.

    Default This looks great

This looks like just what I was wanting to try out with the new Aasimar race. I'm going to TR into this today.

I'm a little casual but what gear would you recommend? I can farm a little on my toon today to get something for him.

    Sorry, I missed this yesterday.

Let's start with this. Pretty much my gear set up, but it's something to go off of. Hope it helps.

2-7 Cannith Crafted is best. However, I don't know if you can or have access to a crafter. If not, just keep up your Strength/Con/Wisdom/Fort/Saves/deadly/seeker/melee alacrity/double strike/hamp

    Honorable Mentions
    Mithral Armor of Speed
Bracers of Expeditious Retreat or Upgraded Quiver of Alacrity because I hate moving slow.

Weapons (THF or 1h-whatever works best for now)
Level x Vorpal of Feeding weapon
Level 5 Keen of Ghost Touch (reapers)
Level 3 or 5 Flametouched Unnatural Bane of Ghost Touch (undead/Delaras)
Level 4 Crystalized Eternity (night revels) or Muckbane
Level 7 Energized Khopesh (or scim/rapier/longsword) of Electric Storm-trash clearing
Level 7 Cranium Cracker for new Vampirism and Decent Dmg
Level 8 Nightforge_Spike or Sapphyre Sting

    8-15ish

    Executioner's Helm
Golden Orb of Death (If SWF. 10% Elemental Absorb and +3 Saves Blocking)
Breaker of Bodies (For when you need that extra damage mitigation or you end up tanking Sor'Jek at level 9

    Slave Crafted to cover
    Armor piercing/False Life/Dexterity/Quality Wisdom/Strength/Quality Strength/Tendon Slice/Deadly/Constitution/Resistance/UMD+

***5 piece Endurance and 3 piece Melee or 3 melee and 3 endurance bonuses are helpful. Focus Endurance first if you plan on doing reaper.

    Lvl 10

    Scales of Avarice
Planar Compass for no weapon swaps in Reaper

You should have (especially being a fighter)
    100 Cure Serious Wounds Pots
    002 Shield Wands
50+ each Curse, Disease, and Poison Removal Pots
    100 Lesser Resto Pots
050 Jump Pots (unless we have 6 skill points to waste, and we don't)
100 Protection from Evil Pots (Don't be commanded)

    Other Helpful Items
000+ Level 10 Greater Heroism Pots or Greater Heroism Pots from PDK turn in Estar or Planner Gird starting at level 9
000 Source of Deathward Eternal Pot/Visor of Flesh Render Guard
    000+ Restoration Pots
    Stone Skin and Displacement Clickies
    Azure Sky Cookies

    Default Gear 23-28 minus Armor.

I usually run monk splashes or pure rangers and this is my typical gear set from 23-28. I wear Whisperchain 18 and 23/25 until 28, and whatever robes are best. I haven't decided what Heavy Armor will be better until Shadow Dragon at 28 and then probably Celestial at 29. One thing is I am lacking Ghostly for reaper, which means I'll have to either slot Ghostbane or change a couple of things, but it will not change much if I do.

Belt is Animated Rope and Ring 1 is Ring of Prowess. Fighter will allow me use the ring below as a swap, hopefully moving Armor Piercing there, not certain-just hoping, and picking up Planer Compass for Ghostly.

    • Restored_Giantcraft_Plate_Armor at 23
    • Flawless_Black_Dragonplate_Armor at Level 25
    • Invigorating Helm 220 of Parrying 5 w/ Heavy Fortification Augment
    • Realistic 9 Necklace of Physical and Magical Sheltering 27 with Insightful Constitution 5 and Proof Against Poison 10 Augment
    • Deft 15 Goggles of Melee Alacrity 15 with Insightful Seeker 5 and Exceptional Strength +1 (Imp Bloody Globe @25)
    • Deft 15 Goggles of Ranged Alacrity 15 with Tendon Slice and Exceptional Strength +1
    • Planar_Compass with Feather Falling
    • Prudent 11 Cloak of Natural Armor 11 and Insightful mRR 13 and Deathblock and Charisma +6

Default 20 Aasimar Quick Draw and Feat

Hit 20, and it has been fun enough to continue on R2s in epics and possibly wait for Ravenloft to drop on Dec. 5th. Though Tempest Ranger is my thing and I've considered swapping over to Scourge since I have enough RAP to cover cores for the extra healing.

A note on APs and Feats

For the most part I focused on 11 SD for 25 PRR/MRR, 3 Saves, and 10% HP starting off. I didn't start filling out Kensei past Haste, Weapons x2, and Agilityx 2, core 3 until 8+. I did focus on Aasimar tree.

I went with Quick Draw right away. Bastard Swords are an option if you have a mix of them and other weapons, or to use Spinal Tap for a few levels without changing swapping. I stayed with Quick Draw to 20. So I will be updating feats to reflect that taking it at 20 is probably best. However, before taking 20 make sure you drop all the AP out of Aasimar of the feat will not show up.

I am still iffy over Magical Training. I like having it for KtA, Cocoon, and Sacred Ground for a few quests I run in DC early on. If you don't plan on running Reaper Mode in Epics, I think Magical Training can be dropped if you have around 200+ spell points from ship and items. I am going to keep it to heal myself and friends in Reaper.

Alternative feats are the +6 MRR/PRR armor feat, the +4 Supremacy Feat, or more saves. There could be a point where if Dex and Intel are more than 15+ points in difference, Intel to Saves may be warrented just to save slotting Dex and more reflex in epics the better.

Hey, good to know there's another melee doing well in reaper and posting a build or two.

Even though the build isn't really "my style" as it's a str/int build instead of my usual dex/wis builds that I like, I like the look of the build, and I might have to try it (or a variation of it) once I've got that set of strength-based melee gear put together as I'm planning in half a dozen lives from now. I'll also be closer to the 3 racial AP by then.
Selvera: Half elf Bard 14/Barb 2/Fighter 2; Just having a bit of swash fun with a heroic life.
Jen: Half Elf Fvs 20/Epic 10; Healer Archer with a more supportive build then usual
Mayve: Tiefling Sorc 16; Just a pastlife for an alt

I do pretty good up to R3, but too much going on stay alive to do videos that don't look sloppy soloing. I feel sort of pathetic compared to casters to show those videos, since casters will typically out skull us melee by 1 or 2 since they have better CC and AOE DPS, but most of all can do it at distance. I like my casters, but I feel bored after a few quests with them.

My style is typically Dex Tempest Ranger, but without 4 more racial AP for Aasimar core line there's nothing in DWS or Tempest worth giving up for it since I already have CSW Maxxed and Quickened anyway. In fact, other than Cleric and FvS, There wasn't any other class with the AP to dip into the racials like I wanted too besides fighter. I really considered a battle cleric since they just had a pass.

I've truly considered dropping the AP in Aasimar down to 9 (line+20 HAMP) and picking up perma +6 strength from SD, but I haven't checked to see if it'd work out.

The perk to this build is Racial Healing Hands, a plus to any fighter. If you don't care too much about Healing Hands, with three or four RAP you could do a dex scimitar/falcion fighter with Elf with the same AP spread as this build. I hate giving up Kensei core for the 15 DS, but you could go 18 ftr. 1 FvS, 1 barbarian, and pick up Wis to Ins. Damage from War Soul. I don't know how it work AP wise, but 12 ftr, 4 FvS (AmStrike and Wis to Ins. Damage), 4 Barb (Supreme Cleave and Uncanny Dodge) may be fun, but you'd still go strength here due to AP spread. Just some thoughts.

My biggest issue has been heavy armor. I hate heavy armor and the lack of evasion and dodge. I'd settle with Medium if the two armor feats didn't push my MRR up to where I need it. Wish they'd left MRR alone just on heavy armor. I got to decide to stick with this or flip over to a scourge ranger (dex and scims) in the next day or too. I want to be epic with Raven Loft goes live.

It's true about the skulls; in melee I feel like every skull you turn up the difficulty makes it a lot slower/you have to be much more careful. Something which I don't feel so much on casters/ranged when I try them. So... since I have so many lives left to do, I've mostly been doing 1 skull which I can typically complete very quickly. That was until my most recent life when I've been focusing more on rxp so I upped it to 3 skulls with a thrower build... quests now take a lot longer to complete.

Yeah, I do like the idea of elf fighters since I haven't yet farmed enough displacement clickies to make the dragonmark worthless. Typically I don't need more healing then a hireling can supply, so the loss of healing hands is more an inconvenience then a burden. The loss of the hamp and stances from aasimar are a bit of a loss though. Elven grace is nice, but it doesn't make up for all that aasimar stuff.

I certainly have my work cut out to try out battle-clerics of various types. I'm still fairly convinced the correct way to do a melee cleric is with a splash of a more typical melee class like a fighter or a ranger. One build I'm planning on trying out in the future is a 14 cleric/6 ranger elf tempest with scimitars. This should get the top-tier domain ability (aka holy sword) and most of what make clerics clerics (Heal, Raise dead, greater restoration, deathward, etc), while being able to pick up the T5 tempest stuff which would hopefully mean not gimping DPS nearly as much as most cleric builds do.

+6 strength from SD is pretty good AP/reward, and you can pick up 10% movespeed in the same tier. One oft-overlooked side to that is that shield expertise gives you +3 damage, so you're not completely sinking that many AP into a tree with no damage to get it.

Part of why I don't like KTA is because I haven't got completionist or racial completionist or any of that stuff which makes raising int easy without big tradeoffs, so I wouldn't be able to get much more damage from a short-duration buff which costs SP then I can get passively through a cannith crafted weapon or shield.

I too love my dodge/evasion; been running a lot of fighter multiclasses into dodge/evasion classes recently (monk/fighter twf, monk/fighter thrower, bard/fighter/rogue swf, monk/fighter/ranger twf) and I'm sure I'll miss evasion once I go back to a build without it. IMO heavy armor only really shines in epic levels once characters BAB is high enough for the PRR to make a difference. And even then the dodge difference starts to be apparent. But the fighter feats are quite good, so there's that.
And No Worries is disgustingly OP armor at level 5, so heavy armor's got that for low level balance.

    Adrian69,

How are you liking SWF on this build vs. THF?

I never really build for THF. Sort of old school from the day when you really didn't need to even take the THF unless you wanted the GB damage. I typically only do TWF/SWF builds, but I do on occasion break out a falchion or Riftmaker or maul against skelly mobs. There's nothing wrong with running this with any weapon you chose too. I do think SWF w/ Kensei ends up being slightly better vs. trash do too rate of attack speed on crit returns in epics.

Thank you. I'd been thinking about a fallen Aasimar fighter, too. Now I'll have to think about which weapons I want to play with for this life...

    Default Scourge Version AP Layout

Have to drop a feat, probably magical training or quick draw or blinding speed if you have access to Speed 30 (or whatever it's called now) on gear. Nothing wrong with 1 ranger/1 FvS/18 Ftr if you don't want to pay for an LR+1.

Note on Racial AP* remove 5 from racial, all you need is core line for the heals.

I have been on the Racial TR train for a while. This doesn't have monk levels. All I remember was having 220+ Hamp because I have that every life.

Some of the stats I had at the time are listed in post 7. Ravenloft has since been released, so I am certain they can go higher.

I may still have the images somewhere. The image host stopped hosting right after I posted and I just removed them because I hate seeing those square boxes. I'll look when I have time today.

Not certain I'll return to the build after the Power Surge usage nerf coming later this week or next month goes live.
