Default Theory crafting the celestial monk

    Theory crafting the angelic monk

    Fvs monk
    10/9/1 fvs monk rogue
    LN aasimar

    Str 8
    Dex 15
    Con 14

    1 Rogue twf
    2 fvs
    3 fvs knowledge of battle
    Feat completionist
    4 monk dodge
    5 monk stunning fist
    6 fvs empower heal

    Feat whirlwind
    16-17 fvs

    19-20 monk

    Shintao 40
    Henshin 11
    War soul 4
    Aasimar 25

    Theory crafting the angelic monk
So this is some kind of heroic template
A 10/9/1 split off of tier5 Shintao and backup with wisdom conversion.
Could go 10/10 for the henshin split, for moment of clarity,
And can go vistani as well
The only drawback to this build is that it's a late bloomer.
What with tier5 and whirlwind not till 15. Which makes it an epic build, or at least suited as an iconic.
I don't know how well it would monk, losing half levels from monk bonuses. And not going 9 for improved evasion at 19.
    So really, an epic build
    And feat starved
So maybe an even better split is 9/9/2
Fvs monk ftr. That allows ic blunt and itwf. Loses the Umd. Also loses raise dead. So that's pretty serious trade off.
And it's feat short going into epics. So maybe drop the empower heal and the completionist for the above adds.
Ya too bad there's not a 20 game.
And then there's missing mof and gmof. So at 24 and 30.
    Blinding speed at 27
Celestia at 30. Dire charge at 29. Elusive at 28.
Leave oc at 21 and PTWF at 26.
Good as it gets I see. For a hybrid.
Lot to sacrifice for wisdom conversion.
    But a one stat wonder.

I might play it next life just to see it play.

But right now I'm throwing it out there for ideas.
    Thoughts welcome.

    Default Perhaps a 12/6/2 ?

I mean the trade off is even more multiclass
Like 14/6, no real advantage, to a 12/6/2
That would give heal, allow tier5 monk or vistani
And add 2 fighter for much needed feats
Would give up Umd and trapping. So maybe more epic looking
I'm sure it would run just like the 14/6 clonk I ran
Which is average upper tier damage
Adding wisdom conversion prolly only adds +3 to overall,
Not sure how much divine will will add up. Want to test it

    So 12/6/2
    1 fvs twf
    2 fvs knowledge of battle
    3 monk stunning fist
    Feat completionist
    4 monk dodge
    5-6 fvs mobility
    7-8 monk
    9 fvs CE
    10 fvs
    11-12 monk spring attack
    Feat whirlwind
    13 fvs
    14 ftr ic blunt
    15 fvs stout of heart
    Feat mof
    16 ftr itwf
    17-18 fvs gtwf
    19-20 fvs

So really in heroic this is 10/6/2 without heal or empower heal.
But basically a wisdom monk. Celestial monk.

    Default On divine will

    Addendum
    Divine will
Add half wisdom mod to melee damage and tactical
    So say you have a 44 wis at 20. That's 34 or 17 or 8.
Now look at quivering palm. Monk level/2. Or from 20 10 to 6 3 or 7 off. So with will you get a total +1. Added to the +3 from going wisdom conversion, is only +4 total. For losing the 12,18 and 20 cores. Or a lot of melee power. But your DCs will break even. And you get a heal. So the celestial monk gets a heal. Everything else even or worse.
And there's also making sure you've got more soul levels than anything else. So you got to build heal first. And this is aasimar so they get loh. What with cocoon should be spot on healer.
So it's a heal build with a half monk. Just like the clonk. Won't be anything spectacular but can save the party in a pinch. And do decent dps. Kinda second rate. But that's how most multiclassed go.
Will be flavorful as a celestial monk tho.

    More on aasimar
Went fallen. Kinda Hells angel attitude
But went fists of light. I like the heal.
But as I'm seeing how bonds select the stats, I'm thinking fallen would be better for henshin, since it's str based. Looks like aasimar make decent pallys in their racial tree. But they make good monks too. Hamp is always welcome, too bad no free feat.
I left it open on the soul monk build for max points into aasimar. Because I wanted to see the special abilities. Plan on using them to see if it's worth anything. Prob fine for heroics, like the dragonborn...

So not worth doing then? Do you have any conclusions yet?

Favored soul can use wis or cha for to-hit/dmg only for their deity's favored weapon (divine will should work for any weapon though). Staying centered without kensei t5, that means quarterstaff, shortsword (only for drow), longsword (whirling steel strike), longbow (zen archery), or dagger (vistani).

Whirlwind attack is only really worth it on a handwrap build.

If the idea is to get a fvs past life, then maybe 9/8/3 or 8/6/6 fvs/monk/fighter. If you just want divine will on an unarmed build, then 18/1/1 monk/fvs/fighter.

    Hap
    What's my conclusion?
    Well I haven't played it.
Looks like an epic build. Would have empty hand mastery. Would have gmof. Would have a heal, a loh, and a cocoon. And lotsa sp. but pos prob wouldnt be high. No rs tree.
I've thought about it. A cleric has turns and an aura. And heal and loh and cocoon. The fvs would be slightly better monk fighter type. Prob by another +3. But same crit profile. But loss of 35 mp and 4 wis. and negs from war. So that's prob fair trade off for a spot heal and innate Rez. Like a fav soul is supposed to be super cleric. Not quite super monk, but hey wis conversion!

    So the truth is,
    There are better builds.
I mean cocoon supersedes a heal now. So epics are a wash for clerics. Critically hamstrung.
And then there is Umd. Can scroll raise and heal at level on my trapper monk, so who needs a cleric. Thing is you can build dps toons that carry the cleric in their pocket, as well as the trapper. So saddle up with solo capability and carry the rest. Even tho I was able to Zerg on my clonk, I just played em like a monk. Now realize this is just for heroic. See epic above tho, in addition to everyone scrolling in epics. Scrolls and Umd toonage have killed clerics.
So there is no point to carrying a innate heal. Unless you just like to have it. Pretty emergency button. Even tho this build don't have quicken, so...?*
But it may be worth running to test the wisdom conversion. Like if it would ever produce anything better. Maybe a ranger soul. But I've got a max enchant cleric that has an aura, and that is best healing I've found.
I was looking at this soul monk build to see if others had any ideas.
This just theory craft so far.

    Default Crafting epic

    Epic
    21 empower heal
    24 oc
    26 pthf
    27 blinding speed
    28 elusive tgt
    29 dire charge
    30 Celestia
    Gthf or quicken

    Spells
    4 4 4 3 2 1
    Heal
    Raise dead, clw mass
    Ccw, death ward, divine power
Csw, prayer, magic circle, remove curse
Cmw, lesser restore, resist energy, soundburst
    Clw, nightshield, divine favor, bless

    Skills
    Umd, heal, concentration, jump
Starting 11 +2 at 3. Take first point into int at 4 for 14 or +2. That's 4 skill points or more level. Build doesn't have quicken so relies on conc.

    Vishuvia
    The favored of Aureon
Using her divine will, she is wisdom incarnate
She is a front line fighter, combining knowledge of battle and being stout of heart to defeat her foes.
As a chosen one of Aureon, she is blessed with healing powers.
This is her quest as a celestial dragon.
To heal and aid those in need.

Trading off 45 mp or 50% dps, for a heal, is the essence of this build. So even though it's feated as a fighter, losing the deep cores is a serious blow. For a middling unquickened heal. And you're going to be in combat.
And, about wisdom conversion. I mentioned previously if this were given to monks, it would be about +12. So does that make up 45mp?
Add in divine will at +16 (say a 74 wis), is +28 damage.
    So on 100 dam, x45mp is 145, vs 100 +28 or 128. About 10%.
That's decent trade off for multiclass?

I'm gonna build this and run it to epic. To test and critique wisdom conversion. It looks like its balanced. Not great, just doable.
Can still run pure Shintao aasimar and get a celestial monk. Being a favored soul is some kind of special tho. No other build gets wisdom conversion, and this is the best and easiest I can come up with.
Plus I get a bump with aureons instruction, a +4 wis, so that's trade off serenity. And I get blessing at 12 which is +3 with staffs. So a lot of little things add up.
The only thing that could be better, was a tree pass on war soul, and it got even better adds. I'm true on ap for henshin, can't really fudge on Shintao, and want this build to be a protector build so lots points into aasimar. So war soul would have to get some pretty good cherries for me to drop 22 points into it.
And, as a last caveat, I give up void strike, moment of clarity, quivering palm and tomb of jade. For a heal.
Maybe it'll be worth it. At heart I'm a healer.

    Divine crusader
1 wis, purge the wicked, interrogation
    2 wis, consecration2
    3 wis, sacred ground
    4 wis, crusade
5 wis, heavenly presence, celestial champion
    6 strike down

    Twists
    4 sense weakness
    3 grim precision
    1 dance of flowers
    1 healing power
    1 cocoon

On the shores of outer space
    Drift the aasimar race
    both fallen and rose
    as only a celestial knows
    With hands full of grace

    A wisdom tree
    A souls only cree
    Monks are off limits
Must splash for the right kits
A healer is what you'll be

    The favored of Aureon
    Positive energy their champion
    An Angelic know
    With wings do they glow
    All hail from mount Zion

Of the staff do they flow
Stardust in the shape of snow
    Of the battle they know
    Divine will is their blow
    Laying on hands their show

    Aasimar do they boast
Of crystal trees by the coast
    By wings do they part
    Both there from the start
Of each other do they roast

    Default Level 4

    Level 4
    Made a mistake.
Can't take thf at 4. I thought taking completionist increases base stats. But that isn't the case. Only tomes and level ups count. So no thf at 4. Took CE. Will move thf back to 14, to be taken at 6 monk.
So the issue is is how useful thf is. 2 mp and 10% glancing blows. So I can basically live without it. Not as necessary I imagined.
Will continue with build path. Updated feat list.
Will post again lvl 5, when I get most gear.

    Notes
    A snapshot at level 5.
Didn't have enough gear to fill all slots at 4, but at 5 I get some nice items. Found the gloves tonite. I could cannith craft this stuff but I don't stay here but a day. And quickly get to 8, where slavers kicks in.
I find this stuff good enough for low level adventuring. Got mostly everything covered. Could swap the ring with masters on it for an arlyns, but it harly matters. Already running 52 AC at 5, that's 78%.
And with max wisdom, and power attack, running a high damage add. So I'm doing killer dps at low level. With a staff. Noticed when I took 5 got child of Aureon, +2 to hit damage add. So being of Aureon will get a lot of adds for this build. May weigh heavy in its favor. As it is 10 points over next highest stat. So it's a heavy hitter early.
Ya would have built it different. Now I know about base stats increasing. Thought I knew, but then you learn. I would have taken a point off the 20 and started with a 14 str and 13 int. because now I'm gonna lose a skill point per level, and have to shift thf to lvl14. It's not too big a deal, but I've found skill points to be very useful in a complete package. I like Umd and jump on all my toons, and then whatever for their class. More used to starting at 14, but I thought I could get points out of completionist. Oh well.

I posted the stats in water, but I got jidz tetka on, so normally I run fire to build ki then switch to water. The bracers are good for heal amp, but you got to be in fire. Not that I'm using ki anyway. Because I've got heal spells over fists of light. And I've got a lot of sp. so I'll be able to cast forever.

So far tearing it up with the staff. Was running reaper 3 like it was one. Really, I was surprised. I got about 300 hp reaper, and was out killing the warlocks. So early it looks good. I will be looking forward to getting more cure spells. Should be a good reaper build.

    Notes
Not too much changed from 5 to 8. Picked up +9 damage. And pos is 120. Empower heal at 9 will place it around 200.
    Going for a build change.
Doing a gut check on this, and decided I'm saving the 2 fighter levels for late, for ithf and gthf. Gonna drop the great cleave. Not sure if it shares a cooldown with strike down, but in epics that will give me 2 cleaves. Otherwise placing it at 8 would have gotten no ithf if I later swapped. And this way I get monk 6 at 12 so thf then.
Now at 8 I have Cmw. Switching over to being a bit of a healer in reaper. That will change at 9, and then at 11 I will get Csw. So a decent mini healer by 12.
Enjoying the build so far. It hits hard. Like a ton of bricks. Doing avg 50 dam a swing. Can't trap. Oh well it'll be an epic.
Close to 62 guild and 20k from 29 reaper points.
Ya this build will max out around 12. But will still get gains all the way to 20 with a heal. Last 2 levels will be fighter.
Otherwise, I will test great cleave at 24 and see if it shares a cooldown.
    Will post again at 13.

    Default Level 12

    Level 12
    Staff of the seer
Just found my weapon. I had looked at this before on the wiki, and was going to run restless isles on a henshin trapper. But I was browsing the shard exchange, and there were 3 of these up for sale. I mean, it uses either int or wis for to hit and damage. What more awesome for a wisdom monk. And it's 18-20, great threat range. And, and it's 1.5x2d6! So it's like a vorpal with double damage. I mean, I'm already rolling wisdom conversion as a soul, but for my human henshin final build, this will be a goto weapon for 8-15. I slotted a eye of the inferno and thinking of a ghostbane. But it's an awesome weapon, was doing 80 avg damage with a vorpal, used seer and was doing 100. So it's a far superior monk staff. Bought it for 100 as.
Now the other thing, divine will.
I'm not sure if this is bugged or not. Because sometimes when I use it it seems to add damage. But most of the time I don't see it. And specifically when I'm in combat I pop it and don't see an increase. I will do more testing. I've got it set at 2 min, I guess there was an issue with that that got patched. It may be bugged. I'll test more on dummy.
And so at 12 I just rearranged ap. had some into aasimar, but filled henshin to 30 and took critical threat range. So now with staff of seer is 16-20 x3 1.5(2d6). Pretty good for heroics.
And as for wisdom conversion working out, this build is +8 over my dex. Like a 26 to 42. So it's making up for the 10 mp loss at core 12. But from here next 6 levels are soul to get heal. So I'm maxxed out heroics at 12. It's just like the clonk. Will peak early then taper off. But having heals is great in reaper. Running a fvs symbol now so I'm expected to heal I guess. But I can Zerg and out dps the warlocks. But the glory will be at 12. Losing the 18 and 20 is a hit to monk, but soul is healer so I'll eventually change up my role to support. Secondary dps with heals. It'll be different than the clonk, that's a tier5 radiant aura, but the war domain covers the crit stuff with holy sword. So they come out even there. It's just that the soul is using higher base numbers for to hit and damage, but the cleric hits just as well, just not as much damage. And going tier5 henshin means staff build only, no cores. But it will have full points into aasimar, and those loh are savers. And it should have about 300 hp more. So a better dpser and general melee for an aura. Might argue really aura is better for the group. Keeps melees alive and cleric adds dps. So even tho soul is better melee, I'd give it to the cleric.

I am having a blast on this build. It's the hardest hitting staff build I've built so far for heroics. And it's a healer.

Haven't tested with divine will, but I noticed the same issue with harper's know the angles. It doesn't show any extra damage on your inventory details. So I bought a stack of 100 base shuriken from the harbor weapon vendor (least damage variation of easily obtainable weapons) to test on training dummy. Kta definitely added damage, even if it didn't show up on inv page.

Ya, I think I wasn't paying close enough attention.
I know it doesn't show on the inventory,
And so I did more testing on the dummy.
    I was doing about 90 before, and 100 with, so that's about right for a +8 x40mp or 11.
Either I'm used to having it up all the time, because I spam it for longer fights, or I'm just not paying closer attention. But I think it's WAI.

    Notes
Didn't include gearset, wanted to keep it experimental
Was going to craft a wis ring, found out you can't. So keeping the slavers where I could be getting +4 if I went cloak. But I went with cloak of night and litany, a neg level.
And I crafted some seeker deadly goggles, and took off the concord opp. That gives me 35 hp, which would put me at 500. But the goggles will accentuate the robes I get at 14. And put on a new helm. Will hold out to 15 for chieftain. Then prowess at 17 and swap the cha ring for Umd.
Dps doubled on this build at 12. With crit threat and mult on a staff of seer, doing crits of 300 25% of time is exponential. But that's all the dps I'll get until 20. Will get a little wisdom adds, but no mp or better weapon other than stonebeam or improved vorpal. Will get glancing blows at 19 and 20. That will be for epic.
AC is great at 80. Almost max dodge, need 4 points into ninja. Also will be getting mof and gmof for mdb and more dodge.
Healing is going well. I'm still pretty Zerg strong, but have been healing and topping off groups. Csw and Cmw empower healed, and loh from aasimar for emergency. I have pretty decent mana pool, and mostly don't go below half in a quest. So plenty of reserve healing.
Skill points are working out. Will have strong points in the four I need. Maxxed heal.
Ap is set for mins right now. Next points are all into aasimar. Will save the ninja for end, and prob a few more in Shintao for wisdom. Will have plenty ap for all the goodies on this build.

    Dstrike 9
    Melee speed 10
    Melee power 53
    Prr 42
    Mrr 36
    Fort 110

Numbers are almost identical. Hp of 449 with 35hp concord opp would be 414. To 462, so only about 50 hp more.
Ki is same, AC is same, dodge is short but ap into ninja make same, saves are identical, melee power is 10 more because of core12.
Let's look at weapon I was using,
Vorpal staff 2d6 +57 to hit +56 damage
    With a 18-20 x3 profile,
    Versus?*staff of seer is 16-20 x3 1.5(2d6) with +46 and plus 58.
So the henshin armed will do just as good as damage. Realize this is a mad monk running divine might and splashing trapper. So not a normal henshin. It's maxxed for heroics. A normal henshin would usually max dex. So with a 30 that's a +12 difference, or +6 on hit and damage. But higher mp so it's a wash at level 12.

So this build will be pretty good staff dps good hp and a heal. And good defenses. Solid enough for a multi, prob best you can get as a favored soul monk.

    Notes
standing wisdom of 50. 54 with instruction.
Running deep aasimar. 19 ap for max hamp and protector. That adds 10% hp. But it's bugged. It turns off every time you die or pass a quest screen. Very irritating. The animation to turn it on takes a minute.
But the loh are unreal on a wisdom build. At 20 times 50 wis is a 1000 hp heal. 70 x 30 at 30 a 2100 hp heal. Super strong. Has saved many ass in reaper, including mine. And it regenerates. So 17 ap into aasimar min for all the goodies.
This has made me rethink my final build henshin. I can go aasimar and get the loh. It will be a lifesaver in addition to cocoon and fists of light. Almost a radiant henshin. But pure. I figure I could forgo the great cleave to epics, since I don't use it muchly. And it's a better final build in that it used racial ap. 17 points, but eventually 10 off, for only 7 into racial. Still won't be able to get tomb of jade, but having loh makes up for it. It is pretty strong self heal in reaper.
684 hp. Super high. Have over 900 in reaper. And still hitting hard.
This build doesn't get quivering palm, so no need to slot stunning.
And I have a cha10 ring for Umd swap for teleport.

So far there in no downside to this build, other than no trapper. And no cc. But it does great dps and is a healer. Great for a reaper team. And high sp pool means lots of heals. I rarely go below half in a quest. And in those r1 runs don't have to heal at all.

Prob is I have conundrum. About 3 weeks before expansion, and I want to have Kil at 30. So either I take this build to 30 and wait, or roll over Kil into pure henshin and get to 30 before the 5th. I'm leaning that way since I am known as a henshin. I haven't been in epic for 6 months. Or I could go to 30 on this experimental build?
I think loh on a monk would almost be as good as a heal on a fvs?
I would like to see stats for this thing at 30...

    Default On wisdom conversion

    On wisdom conversion and fvs
So it's great on a build that can take advantage of it. Which is monk. However, 6 is the best split because 10 doesn't get you anything. Maybe imroved evasion, but you lose the heal. And you can't run a ua fvs monk. Just henshin, or ninja for shortsword or dagger.
So I ran the best split I could, and it measured up greatly. Blew the wheels off normal henshin dps. At least through mid heroics. If there was an 18-20 game the henshin would pull ahead. But the fvs also gets healing, and that is super favorable.
I had a blast running this build. It over performed in every way. Just that you can't make it any better,
And I was going to run it thru epics, but several things.
Only has raise dead. Need at least resurrection.
And unquickened heals. I would like take quicken at 21 and oc at 24. For surety in casting. It makes all the difference having no fail heals.
But for role playing this is best soul monk I could idea.
I ran her as a female, and envisioned her as vishuvia, the staff of Aureon. She looked like a ninja geisha running around in red reaper mail. And she kicked much ass, and saved just as much.
Running full aasimar was godly. On a wisdom build the loh are unearthly, even in reaper.
But for said reasons I'm not going to run her any further, and not likely run her again. It was a conversion test. And it works great, just too bad I can't get this on my monks or clerics. Sigh.
I can only hold out that sentient weapons can have wis mod. That will save it for me.
But I am going on to my celestial monk. A pure henshin aasimar. Loh is too good to pass up. And it will be my third aasimar life. And a ravenloft build.

    2 vistani undead killer

    Notes
Min ap spread. Would rather 10 ap more into aasimar, but need 13 in Shintao. The good part is while I earn racial ap, in 3 more lives I will have 4 ap. so that's Shintao to 21. Need 22 for tomb. So I will need 6 more lives to build a loh tomb of jade henshin.
This is my ravenloft build. 2 points into vistani for undead killer. Mostly just for flavor.
Could go 8 Shintao for 20 prr, and 17 aasimar for full protector. That will likely be the split. As a final build. Then just getting racial completionist to finalize it. 10 points off and you could go tomb of jade, that would be the end goal. That would take more than a year.
So no tomb of jade celestial henshin. Cocoon and loh and fists of light. A solid build. Quivering palm will be good as well as dire charge. A wisdom build.
