    Default auto follow

I've played some games that had auto follow player in it and it was nice for group action to maintain a tight group for tactics.
you would click on the player you want to follow and hit auto follow.

I have seen this in other games, personally I don't think it is needed in DDO.

I would love this feature. I may or may not be planning to use it combined with cliff drops, lava and traps if it ever gets implemented.

    Indeed!
/follow + reliable and robust target pass through + full macro and plugin support in DDO would be a dream come true for me.

I support this idea and request SSG implement it at once!!!
They have it all in LotRO.

Of course it would prolly make Hirelings obsolete - which I suppose is a revenue stream for the game (unsure - I never use hirelings other than the few quests where I need a lever puller) but I contend that the income gained from multi-accounts with all content purchased would mitigate and perhaps even surpassed the revenue stream from gold seal hirelings?

Groupers and raiders would hate it....

Until they found out that grouping with boxer teams equals less drama, tighter tactics, more success in difficult content, full groups forming faster (sorry for that sentence - I haven't had all my coffee's yet and can't /brain to good yet).... sooo... yeah.... /follow would be cool.

When hires follow, they follow until they can stand in a trap, lava, or acid. They keep healing themselves until spell points run out and die. I doubt the A.I. could make players follow any better. Then again hires seem to find it really exciting to stand in those places.

ive never needed auto follow to successfully pike before and i dont see why i would need it in the future.

i can only see very occasional and niche uses for this function but at the same time i really dont see why it wasnt implemented a long time ago.

There's only one real Rule of Piking: You pike INSIDE the quest. So, yeah.

not really. i dont feel its necessary, but i can also see some possible good in it and it seems like a minor thing, so why not? just because i personally dont *need* it doesnt mean i personally wouldnt *use* it necessarily. but it doesnt exist, so.

    more like #apathy.

feat is already in use on Anna and Elminster and thus proven piker trash.

    nope.

if you wanna pike stealthily you at least hit the bloody keyboard once in a while.

on second thought, suppose i have wings or such and there is a lava pool in quest. let me retrace that thought there is some merit here, now you can KILL the autofollowing piker while he is out for a smoke. yeah, sounds like fun XD

Some people definitely struggle to navigate the game.

We had one person in our guild who was known for repeatedly saying 'If I could find you guys'.
Many times running the Cove I've heard someone say go to the east side, which is followed by 'no the other east side'.

There are valid reasons for wanting a follow option and valid reasons for keeping it out of the game.

Maybe another option to consider is some sort of pathing aid/aide.

Something like an AI version of Bigby's Guiding Hand which moves ahead of a player to lead the way.
    or
A ranger hireling that has a tracking feat on their hotbar to find other players or points on the map.

Another option would be to add Find the Path spell which would remove the fog to a location.

Why not stick a compass needle or legend on/next to the map instead? I know my guild mate suffers from directions like this too.

As for folk getting lost, unless they start to teleport like NPC's do, the current pathing just won't do the job (and be far too complex to code so it does). Getting lost (or spun around on a map) is a widespread problem for many newbies, but "following" won't solve the root problem, only diminish the symptom short-term, and leave them even more lost at the end of that quest.

It's used to good effect in LotRO, but that game has a different feel and, imo, a diff vibe from the typical player. There are other mechanisms in place that give it a diff value in-game too - Lotro's "hunter XP" equivalent has a max radius around the kill to share credit, not just anyone in the party anywhere will benefit (which makes a lot of sense, but also requires tight grouping).

In this game - I see far more abuse potential than actual benefit.
