    Default Thoughts on Build

I've been away for a few years, but I thought I'd break out an old character and fool around with it a bit.

The basic scheme I'm thinking of would be something like below. The thought is to build a mixture melee/evoker (I'm open to post-20 suggestions, but the build below is just for heroic levels) that is playable throughout heroic levels. The spell DCs are a bit meh, mostly because I don't see them being a crucial part of the build.

I'm not entirely sure that the SLAs will keep up damage-wise and I'm not sure Sonic Orbs exist. I dropped one point in the Assassin tree to get free weapon finesse with Daggers/Kukri at first level (to compensate for the abysmal strength), but this is easily changed at levels where hit is less of an issue and daggers might not be the best choice. The theory behind Orbs is that what I lose from the alternatives is counterbalanced by what I gain by using a non-caster weapon in my main hand (ie: I don't want all that Potency stuff on my main hand weapon). I also can't really afford the Shield feats with this build.

If anyone has any thoughts on:
    (a) if this is really sensible as an approach
    (b) changes that might make it more sensible
    (c) gear to acquire that might make it worthwhile
    (d) path to take through epic levels
    I'd appreciate it.

I recently asked a similar question about bards. The feedback I got on bards is to either go melee swashbuckler or a caster spell singer. Trying to do both just doesn't leave you enough room to do either very well. Since you mentioned a more caster style I'd suggest Qezuzu's build the Banshee.

It's actually much more of a melee build than a casting build. Essentially, I'm looking at the offensive aspects of Bard spellcasting and asking what I can do without being any good at actual casting. Since only one of the SLAs involves a save against damage (and that's Fort half, so no Evasion) and none of them involve SR, I can theoretically pound away with them at any level no matter how bad my save DCs/Spell Penetration gets. Since two of them involve AE damage, it fixes the issue of being good against a single target but having no decent options against multiple targets. Likewise, the various offensive Bard songs tend to work just fine even in a non-casting build because they're Perform DC-based.

However, I don't have any real appreciation of how damage scales through epic levels or the various quirks of different epic abilities. Currently, I'm leaning towards a Dex-based pure Bard build instead of what I posted since Master of Magic will theoretically push me over the level cap for the Shout/Reverberate SLAs anyway.
