A magic sword is stuck in a heavy stone, and you can't pull it out. What do you do?
Get a pick, a sledge hammer and use them to smash the rock to pieces.

Is it a high valued sentient sword that stuck in the rock? If it is, talk to it, perhaps it has a quest? Once the quest is solved, perhaps, it will be willing to pull itself out to join the rescuer.

1. Catch Big, Strong Red Dragon
2. Break the Dragon so I can ride it, ala Cowboys Bronco Busting
3. Paw Dwarven Mining Crew(Lots and lots of gold) to dig big tunnel under the rock, adding support as I need them to hold rock up and make the opening just big enough for my new pet Dragon to fit under the Rock
4. Lower Rock on to big, strong red dragon
5. Secure rock in place with web spells
6. Fly my dragon way up high, try to find some sort of Hobgoblin, Gnoll, or Minotaur Fortification
7. Burn Webs away with burning hands
8. Drop Rock on the fortification, hope and pray the Hobgoblin, Gnolls, or Minotaurs do not find sword.Recipemaker Guild: Top Chef School of Recipes

I would first try to identify what type of magic item it is to determine if it's worth any further effort to retrieve. If it happens to be something that would be worth retrieving, I would pray to my deity for the divine might necessary to smash the stone into bits allowing retrieval of the sword. If the stone was also magical and could not be smashed then I would attempt to lift and carry it back to civilization (with a 50 something strength I can carry well over 100,000 pounds) where I will hire help in breaking the enchantment on the stone so the sword could be taken.
