    Default Help Please - anyway to play the game one handed?

    Would appreciate a link to any thread on this issue. I just managed to smash a finger up and have been told it'll be about 3 weeks until it can come out of the splint. Just tried a quest with guildees and its hard to play this game one handed!

    Ouch, I feel your pain. I lost use of an arm for a few months.

    You know the hardest thing to do left handed if you are right handed?
    Wiping your ass.
    It is.

    I play with a guy on Sarlona that only has one arm.
    He uses one of those nifty gaming controller things.

    One of the ranger builds in EllisDee's compendium was allegedly built around the goal of one handed play.

    It's supposed to employ autoattack to allow offhand sammich/tvremote wielding. You could do the same thing with a caster though.

    This is tough. I've also been one handed for a time and understand how difficult it can be to do what we take for granted.

    Now, things that can help is hardware

    1. Multifunction Mouse with macro keys - To take over keyboard functions
    2. Keyboard with macro keys - To take over mouse functions
    3. Gamepad - These usually have features that can allow you to setup actions

    That is the nice thing about the key mappings in DDO it allows for flexibility. It will take some muscle memory training but you can get back some of the functionality.

    This is not the thread I expected.

    For that, I am glad.

    It looks like all of the best options are covered above.

    But I have to ask.

    What is the sound of one hand clapping?

    Default Things

    When dual boxing and moving 2 toons at the same time, I'm using one hand on each keyboard. Takes practice, but you can play 2 toons at once on 2 different keyboards.

    Game pads, how about foot pads and foot controls? Way back in the day this was a keyboard on the floor with jump mapped to the space bar.

    I saw a guy win an MKIII tournement using this with only his feat

    My goal is 3 box, 2 3 keyboards and I got the joystick above and will try and map for my feat.

    My long term goal is a stand up arcade box with foot controls. Google homemade arcade games and select images.

    I can play one handed with either my left or right hand with my current set up, although I don't need it. Either of these could easily be programmed to be even better for one-handed use as well.

    Left Hand:
    Logitech G13

    This programmable keyboard is perfect for putting all your needed keys in one place. Here's what I have on it:
    • Cycle through interactives
    • Cycle through targets
    • Movement
    • Use/Interact/Attack
    • Inventory, Character Sheet, Social Panel, Adventure Compendium, Quest Journal, Enhancement Trees, ED Trees
    • Jump
    • Block
    • Dance
    • Rune Arm Charge
    • Camera Panning (Joystick)
    • Examine
    • Use Mic

    Of course there will always be the occasional thing I have to reach over to my mouse for, but not much. Keep in mind that this thing is fully programmable, so you could put a bunch of spell/attack shortcuts from your hotbar on it if necessary.

    Right Hand:
    Logitech G602

    Although it has many less handy shortcuts than my keyboard, the mouse is better one-handed since it allows for almost all of the things that my keyboard has. Also, my key setup is not optimal for one-handed playing.
    • Mouse allows for navigating through any game menu
    • Auto-Run
    • Mouse-look control
    • Use/Interact/Attack
    • Change camera zoom
    • 1-5 from my main hotbar

    The mouse is best for one-handed playing simply because the game is built to be mostly playable with only a mouse. I'd recommend either of these options however, depending on which hand you can actually use.

    You can bind attack to a key as well, its fairly useful you can almost avoid using a mouse. Though it has an annoying flaw in that it doesn't work if you have any sort of open window near where you leave the mouse pointer(like your inventory). I smashed my thumb last year and bound a lot of stuff to the numeric keypad so I could just use my fingers, and avoid the mouse. Gingerspyce has a video on youtube about he plays, which is without a mouse usually.

    LMFAO Haven't even checked the link, but your description of it's purpose has me thinkin' that might be the coolest flavor-toon concept I've ever heard.
    I would still like to see... Something that tests character versatility and player adaptability rather than character focus strength and quest knowledge.
    I play the quests for the content of the quests not just as an XP/min merry-go-round.
    Actual play experience is worth infinitely more than theorycrafting...

    Same one I use, G13 pad but with a Razor Naga Chroma mouse (has 2 buttons on the side that I have mapped to "Shift")

    I've used this set up for 6 years and can play one handed (left or right) easily with either the pad or the mouse.

    Scroll Wheel=Camera in/out
    Scroll Wheel button=R for autorun
    Side buttons=Shift
    Right Button=Steer (aka Camera Angle)
    Left Button=Hold to attack or Select.

    G13
    1=Tab to Target useables
    2=Closest Combat Target
    3=1
    4=2
    5=3
    6=4
    7=5
    8=Use
    9=Next Combat Target
    10=Strafe Left
    11=Forward
    12=Strafe Right
    13=8
    14=9
    15=F Push to Talk
    16=6
    17=Backward
    18=7
    19=0/10
    20=Map
    21=Control
    22=Jump

    Joy Stick Buttons= Shift
    Joy Stick= only left and right for Turn Left/Turn Right

    With this I am moving, casting, activating, attacking non-stop with both hands but I know it works great with either hand to play while snuggling my Chihuahua or eating a snack.
    I am often cynical and say mean things. It's a WAI "Feature". Mokune (Guild Leader of Pandora's Box on Khyber), Iquitz, Returning, Thaumat, Ketzerisch, Xhiron, Koanoak et al...

    The easiest solution is to immediately reroll into a barbarian. This way you can use your free hand to control movement while putting a small rock or paperweight on your left mouse button.

    Problem solved without having to buy expensive new equipment that you will only need for about 3 weeks!

    When I broke my finger I tried one handed and was relatively successful but I ended up putting such a strain on the useful hand that it threatened to be injured as well. In the end I finagled it so I could use my mouse and keyboard by cutting a chunk out of the splint - although this was a broken pinkie - if its a mid-digit that could be a problem.

    On another note....

    Play a Ranger. (in a group)
    I've played this game many a time, with both hands manipulating a large piece of Pizza dripping with cheese, and reaching down with my little finger to hit the tab key....

    If you get charged, back up into a corner.

    (autoattack btw)
