50% concealment is a huge bonus to your miss chance. If you can't cast the spell yourself, you have a few other options: elf Dragonmark, Displacement scrolls via UMD (no-fail Displacement scrolls req's UMD 27 which takes a while to reach), greensteel items with Displacement clickies (not a realistic option for a first-lifer).

Invisibility is nice for stealthing, of course. Shadow Walk can be situationally useful for zerging past mobs you want to avoid, although Dungeon Alert can make that a PITA if you're careless.
You, sir, are a scholar and a gentleman.

The build doesn't have points for stealthing, right? I've thus far (lvl 14) never encountered a situation where I've wanted to zerg past mobs, though I suppose that the run speed could be very occasionally nice for running across big zones.

So, at the end of the day, having the displacement panic button is worth the large investment?

For thematic / flavor reasons, I didn't want to give up melee entirely; so I designed her to use kukris while heroic leveling (hence 1 AP Assassin early on) before respeccing for scimitars at lvl 20. Naturally, if you want to pew-pew full-time, drop the melee feats & enhancements to focus on a little more ranged DPS (like extra DEX from drow); or put into Harper if you have it.

Twists are a best-case wishlist; I'm obviously not expecting anyone to have 36 Fate pts on a first-lifer! Pin and Cocoon are the immediate priorities, IMO, and only require 5 Fate pts (15 ED lvls); you'll acquire most of that just going from Shiradi to Crusader. Everything else is "add it when you can afford it."

The next heroic life I plan to run is a pure ranger (no trapping) version of the build I posted on the first page, elf with full dragonmark + extend. I just yesterday set up a build file using the exact same enhancements Leveling Guide listed, except I will start spending AP on level 1 instead of 2. I'm very much looking forward to having extended displacement.

The displacement dragonmark with extend isn't a panic button, it's an always-on feature. That's what makes it so good. You get 4 uses per rest for the following durations with extend:

Level 10: two minutes (8 minutes per shrine)
Level 20: four minutes (16 minutes per shrine)
Level 30: six minutes (24 minutes per shrine)

It's chock full of win. If you want to swap out extend once you reach level 30, feel free. But extend is super nice for leveling.

EDIT: For some reason I think you get 5 uses per rest, not 4, but I can't figure out where the extra use would come from. Maybe a ship buff?

Thanks EllisDee37, that explains a lot. I was under the impression that you would have fewer uses for less time.

Very impressive! It's a very cool build that you've got here If I go ranger after TRing, I'll probably go with the wizard splash.

    Thanks again!

If you're willing to go with a much deeper multi-class build, a shuriken throwing 8 rogue / 6 ranger / 6 monk (which could easily sacrifice a few points of sneak attack and go with 8 ranger) makes for a very potent ranged trapper that comes with a bunch of CC and enough DPS to not make the game slow as heck.

i'm probably the wrong person to answer this, because i'm out of date n stuff, but my own rogue-splashed monkcher does some pretty nice damage, and so far hasn't really had any trouble with traps easily up to EH and in most cases the lower leveled EEs. just a good ol fashioned strength based AA. 13 ranger/6 monk/1 rogue. she originally started life as the old "exploiter" build (18 ranger 1 monk 1 rogue) but i shelved her for a while, and halfway thru my levels monkcher became a thing, and when i picked her up again i went with it. Being new (lvl 4) I am very confused about a couple things: based on this table and other info I have found it takes 20 spell points to use Corrosive Arrows, and with the Stats suggested I don't have enough Wisdom to use Corrosive Arrows. What am I missing? (neither could I find any Wisdom based item useable at level 4 to raise my Wis to an adequate level)

You can drink +4 wisdom pots starting at level 2. They're sold in the marketplace for plat. (The potion vendor in the center area place.)

Do those stack? If not, one pot gets me to 12 Wis.

To slot and cast your spells, you need:

11 wisdom at ranger level 4
12 wisdom at ranger level 8
13 wisdom at ranger level 11
14 wisdom at ranger level 14

By ranger level 11 you should be able to find and slot a +5 wisdom item or better.

14 wisdom at ranger level 14

By ranger level 11 you should be able to find and slot a +5 wisdom item or better.
Is there some reason to have 10 strength? Why not just start out with 10 wis and 8 strength?

Carrying capacity and strength-check doors and levers.

I finished my deepwood archer life, which was quite enjoyable. Since I was a legend build I started with 12 strength and even with that I found myself annoyed multiple times by my low strength.

You can go with 8 strength if you want, of course, but I personally avoid that like the plague.

Could you take Action Boost instead of Favored Hunter at 11?

Talk about necro but whatever. These builds still show up #1 on Google search of "DDO build" so....

Worth noting for those thinking of trying this build. It takes its first Arcane Archer enhancement that costs spell points to cast at 3rd level. But the character will not have any spell points until 5th when you take your 4th Ranger level. So you need an item that grants +20 sp (minimum) if you expect to use it until then. It also takes more sp cost abilities at 4th so even with the item you'll need sp pots to refill if you need to cast more than one in a quest area. This is less problematic than one might think, however. AA abilities tend to persist once cast until you either cast another that replaces it, or you log off. Some persist even from session to session. So you log in, click on conjure arrows (this one is free) and equip the stack, then cast corrosive arrows, all while in town. But if you spot a specter coming your way and want to swap to force arrows it costs sp, plus more to switch back.

Alternatively, you could take your first level of energy of the wild before taking corrosive arrows at 3rd, but your enhancement progression will be off until 17th(!) when it normally would be taken.

Either way I figured I'd mention this because this build looks like someone used to vet status'ing past the first few levels made it.
