    Default Ranger 6 / monk 6 / cleric 8 -- AA/moncher --

There seem to be at least 4 places I could put this build for review, but all my AP and many feats come from Ranger, so I came here.

There are two things I want to do with this build:
    1. get a cleric past life
    2. Try a ranged character again since I've not done one in several years. A moncher seemed like a good candidate.

    Basics:
Take 6 ranger for ranged feats, then
Take 6 monk for 10k stars, then
Take 8 cleric for the past life

Enhancements in Elf, AA and DWS.

Likely run in heavy armor unless there is some reason not to.

I have lots of bows to use: max'd pinion, epic silver flame, TF, GS etc.

Let me know what you think or if you have ideas to make it better.

Uhhh, the fact you have to wear robes to stay centered and be a monkcher? That's kind of a biggie...

Since you have +6s across the board and access to Div Might, I'd go STR+CHA-based for dmg rather than DEX / Grace. Unless you have Harper and wanted to go INT-based instead.

    Sample build:
    Code:
    Cleric Monkcher
    8/6/6 Cleric/Ranger/Monk
    Lawful Neutral Elf

    2. Ranger 7. Monk 12. Monk 17. Cleric
    3. Ranger 8. Monk 13. Cleric 18. Cleric
    4. Ranger 9. Monk 14. Cleric 19. Cleric
    5. Ranger 10. Monk 15. Cleric 20. Cleric

    Oops... okay. Glad I posted.

I do have access to harper.

One of the few things I knew about a monkcher was to have very high wisdom and then some way to increase base damage. I was looking at DEX for stat consolidation. With DEX to damage I would need Wis, Dex and Con. How do you see the balance if you are doing STR + CHA? You still need a max'd WIS and also DEX to hit and CON, so the only stat you can relax on is INT.

I had stayed away from Harper for a similar reason, but maybe its easier than STR+CHA. Need enough DEX for feats and use KTA instead of DM? Stats needed becomes Wis, Int and Con. Enhancements change around as grace is not needed, but points must be spent in harper. Thinking on it, this might be better than DEX due to ranged power in Harper. Just need to fit in insightful reflexes... hmmm...

Dropping weapon focus is no big deal to pick up something else.

What are you getting from the dragon mark?

Why no healing boosts (i.e. quicken and empower heal)?

Why Grand Master of Forms? Master of Forms gives your static Ki regen. +1 Wis and dodge? I suppose stepping out of armor and into robes, the dodge become helpful again... hmmm...

With Zen Archery, WIS becomes your to-hit stat, so that's a non-issue. So it's just a question of which combo you go with for DPS:

    • STR+CHA: pros - more DPS from Div Might, Ram's Might, and Primal Scream; cons - more stat-constrained (WIS,DEX,CON,STR,CHA are all important)
    • DEX: pros - stat consolidation, higher Reflex saves; cons - fewer ways of boosting DEX vs STR, must spend at least 18 APs in elf tree which limits your other options
    • INT: pros - Know the Angles + Strategic Combat II makes INT apply 1.5x dmg mod vs DEX's 1x mod, more stat consolidation than STR+CHA approach; cons - fewer ways of boosting INT vs STR, must spend at least 12 APs in Harper (SC II)

If you weren't a 36-pt build with +6s across the board, I'd say DEX or maybe INT-based is easier than STR+CHA. But you are, so I think STR+CHA works better, although I didn't have enough APs for Henshin or Harper on my build.

    Displacement and a cool tattoo.

That would be fine as well.
    Why Grand Master of Forms?
    Force of habit.
Master of Forms gives your static Ki regen. +1 Wis and dodge?
Most monkchers use Earth stance for the +1 crit bonus on 19-20 and only switch to Ocean when you need the passive ki regen.

Since I'm working on a primal past life, running in either Fury or Shiradi is easy, so putting in something like primal scream should not be a problem.

edit: I rewrote the damage stat number better in the next post. INT and STR are coming in at the same number (baring me missing something) and the INT build can pick up Ranged Power from harper.

Okay, I thought that might be it. I do have several displacement clickies as well, so it might be less critical. This happens to be my main getting my last two heroic and epic past lives, so "stuff" usually isn't a problem.

Interesting point on Earth stance. I'll have to read up on that some more. I had assumed that you would use Water stance to keep Ki up since the bow does not. How often do you end up swapping around in actual play?

I do not need morninglord and that would block my epic past life, but your build did remind me that I could use the Ranger version of AA. 6 ranger levels gets me everything I was going to get except one core and I could drop alignment arrows and likely never care that it was not there. That frees up a lot of AP potentially.

    Brainstorming again:

(I'm not doing litany, because I won't stay at 28.)

Going DEX, I can start with 18, then I pick up 2 in Elf, which gets me to 20.
    +6 tome, +11 item +4 item +1 item +2 ship = 44 damage stat

Going INT, I can start with 15 and maybe pick up 2 or 3 in harper, topping out at 18.
    +6 tome, +11 item, +3 item, +1 item +2 ship = 41 damage stat
    KTA: 41-10 = 31. 31/2 = 15.5 bonus / 2 = 7.75 (7)
    Damage = 15 (stat) + 7 (KTA) = 22

Going STR, I can start with 14 (and 2 less con) and I can't boost it in enhancements.
    +6 tome, +11 item, +3 item, +1 item +2 ship = 37 damage stat
    +5 scream, +2 rams = 44 damage stat
    CHA starts at 14, +6 tome, + 11 item, +3 item, +1 item +2 ship = 37. 37-10 = 27. 26/2 = 13 bonus for DM
    STR: 44 + 13 = 57 damage stat with all boosts.
    Damage = (57 -10) / 2 = 23

Just messing around here with the math, INT and STR are only 1 point apart per hit. I could make more use of the titan gloves, but they are only good for 3min/shrine. Also the STR/CHA build needs more gear and has less reflex save. Going INT also allows me to pick up more RP from harper (drop the elf tree completely and put those points into harper and use the ranger version of AA.)

What do you think? Am I getting the math right?
