Default Launcher fail at getting in line to connect...

My father was trying to play the game for the first time in a long while.

He downloaded and installed everything. Once it was finished he opened the launcher, entered his username and password, chose his server, hit the button and then the launcher just quietly closed down. Nothing in task manager, nothing at all anywhere. The final line the launcher show's is "Getting in line to connect..."

Tried everything. Searched the internet thoroughly.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Having similar problems. Tried to submit a ticket to Turbine, got "Not Authorized". Did you ever get this resolved?

    try this:

    Close the launcher.

Find the User Preferences config file in DDO file. Ours is in \Documents\Dungeons and Dragons Online. Move it to desktop (don't delete it yet).

Restart the launcher. It will rewrite that file.

For us, after trying LOTS of things, this was the only thing that worked. We've had a couple issues since then, and this fixed them each time.

    obviously swaped lotro for ddo.

    Default Sorry for late response.

What ended up working for Dad was he re-downloaded the game using the play while downloading feature. No idea how that changes anything but it worked for him.

Never got a response to the ticket.

Having a very similar issue, with the launcher trying to install DirectX 9.0 2009.8 Redistributable. I have all the files that should be needed for DX9 and DX10 installed (and used). Launcher for DDO just tries that and dies without an error message almost instantly. No trace of the DDO Launcher in Task Manager.

Edit: Fixed issue by forcing launcher to run as ADMIN. My username (also an admin) wasn't recognized. Select the launcher's icon, select properties. On the Shortcut tab, select the Advanced properties button, and check the Run as Administrator box. Worked like a champ then.

Simple solution, always works for me.

Switch DNS server, because the internet + ddo combination is a terrible one. I switch between my default provided and google dns whenever whichever decides to stop working with turbine's network. After that restart the router and you're golden.
