But overall stuff like griefing, serious insults/threats, ect. are extremely rare from my experience. 95% of people are nice and easy to play with.
I 100% agree with you. But his thread can open a serious can of worms. Various scenarios have been put forward with no official response.

Group leaders need to have more control, not only at set up stage but during the whole time the group is together. A good leader will find a balance with their party on how the group goes forward, how objectives are met, and the level of chat within the party. However, any member of the group doesn't have to listen to the leader and can do what they want (zerging forward, activating mobs when the party is not ready, ending quests when the party is not ready, picking up quest objectives and not telling anyone what they've done). This results in the party leader losing control of the group and ruins the experience for the whole party.

Guild leaders already have the power to police their own guilds, so it is only right the party leaders should have the powers to police their own groups. People may abuse the system, but it doesn't take long for names to be passed around the server so everyone knows who are the good leaders, who are the bad leaders, who are the best guilds to run with, who to out right avoid.

I am warning people who want to run with me now to watch their backs in PUGs. I will join PUGs, but voice will be off, and I'll just sit and wait for instructions or follow the lead of the star. But as far as leading, it is really not worth it any more. Hence I am sitting in game watching the world go by. Yes, I can solo quests. But doesn't that defeat the object of a MMO?

I think the biggest problem with this is not the 'potential for abuse', as that CAN be mitigated. When the report is made, it saves a log of the typed chat. If you're behavior is proper, they won't do anything to do you. We all have the ability to keep our behavior proper, especially in written chat. Double check your replies to unpleasant people to make sure they are polite and you won't be punished no matter how often another player reports you, simply because there is no crime to punish.

But the worst toxicity I have ever seen has been on voice chat, which can't be moderated. And squelch may solve the problem for you the squelcher, it does NOT solve the communal problem and just makes that person someone else's issue.

In the real world, manners are still enforced by society. The worse you treat people, the worse you get treated. You get skipped over for promotions at jobs, declined for dates, a myriad of other things. And because there are consequences, most people curb bad behavior in group situations. But on the internet, not so easy, and people let their uglier sides be what others see instead of the pleasant ones in far too many cases.

    1. Need an option to report LFM's.
LFM's are also often used for non LFM purposes.
I often see abusers using the LFM pane to insult/harass players.
~currently there is no right click or easy method of reporting LMF's & LFM text without going the long manual route which doesn't work..
did that guy have 6 x's or 7x's before the keymash name.... bah screw it don't have time to chase the bouncing LFM to bother reporting the toxic activity.

    2. Squelching a player's toon doesn't go far enough.. Squelch needs to cover a players account.. the player is the problem not his 1 toon of 20 on the account.
    Currently Squelch is pretty useless.
Would like to see the squelch list be more like the friends list so you can add comments.
Instead of squelching I would add a player as a friend instead so I can add commentary as to why I don't like that player..
Comments get wiped on a TR... this is bad..

Squelching only means that for a time, player A no longer hears player Toxic. However, players B, C, D, E still may hear player Toxic.

Squelching is ignoring. Ignoring toxic does NOT solve the problems it only makes it worse down the line.

Solves the problem for me without becoming a tattletale, Situational anger/annoyance doesn't necessarially require me to report Toxic.
If Toxic continues to bother me then I can opt to report as necessary.

Players B,C,D,E can make their own choice on how to deal with Toxic.

It is not always necessary to report every person who annoy/offend me in a situational episode to the GM's and waste their time playing babysitter.
Their time is better spent helping people with bugged quests.

So it is my fault that "toxic" is being toxic? Because that is typically how such is treated. Something I've always strongly disagreed with.

    Hello All,

Just want to put my 2 Plat in on this, Whatever the Devs do I pray they don't try to make a Vote/Kick system in DDO, I won't say it couldn't work ( IF Implemented Correctly ) but I play another online game that has this system, and it will be abused before it is used correctly, That I can say with certainty. Then we will see plenty of posts by people that say they didn't get loot because they got kicked, or they helped to kill the Boss then they got kicked.

I implore you DDO don't open another can of worms, Best way to beat these types of players, is being warned Via word of mouth and to make sure you put these individuals in your friends list and tag them as toxic.

The only other thing I will say to some defense of those players is that sometimes it can be the group as well, these " Toxic " players may have all intentions of playing well with others but there are many groups in DDO that are multi lives or just really good players and they don't have the patience to deal with less experienced players. And I says this in the context of, there are many past lifers out there that have all the great weapons and green steel up the yay yo and can do EE content solo or just a few in a group with no healer(s) so they think everyone should play like they do.

Now I'm not knocking those players who put the time in to create their toons that way, But again not everyone has that time to put in, or maybe they do and they just can't find anyone/guilds that have the patience to edjumacate them , to actually take the time out to help people learn about what they are trying to do with their toon.

Again , whatever direction DDO goes please don't get a Vote/Kick system it will be more trouble then it's worth believe me, because if you have people using exploits in this game now, I can tell you the Vote/kick system will be abused before it is used the way it it was intended.

    Cheers! W.W.

    Default quality of life

i can tell you a quality of life change, who could help making this mmorpg better:

the auto lfm feature currently automaticallly breaks bravery bonus, if you are level 12 running a lvl 10 quest on elite... it automatically set lfm to 10-13.... while it should have been 9-12 range...
if the autolfm feature would be fixed to work correctly: set the level range to (quest level + 2 on elite) and as minimum (quest level -1) so a level 10 quest played on elite would be level range 9-12
and also make the autolfm work... (the idea is you click the public lfm, and you automatically get quest shared if possible... also if less than 5 minutes are passed you get teleported inside the quest, at the entrance...

this quality of life change would for sure help the game... making the world appear more alive, and healing the stress that sometimes can form from people who ask share, people who dont like to share a quest, and people who need directions to reach quest door...

(well i hope some dev can read this, also if you are a dev who doesnt work on the lfm code may as well putting this suggestion to the attention of the coders...)

While we're improving the game environment, we should discuss improving the forum environment as well.

okay first off: playing a quest with someone in the group above BB range will NOT break your streak, you will just not get the extra XP this one single time. your streak will stay as was before that quest. I think it's funny that people are so obsessed with BB and yet do not know how it actually works. If you want an actual BB group, take the 10 seconds to make a proper listing.

secondly: I admit, I get annoyed if someone asks me for a share on a quest where the quest giver is the entrance or the door is right next to them. I don't mind at low levels. I do not mind if the quest entrance and quest givers are many loading screens apart (bargain of blood, for example) or on quests hardly anyone plays and where the giver is in an odd location (faithful departed, for example).

but even a relatively new player should know how to use the p-screen at a certain point, where you can just hover over a quest to see in what area it is located. and if you do not know where a quest is in a wilderness because you are new to an area and couldn't be bothered to do your explorer first... well, if possible I let those players tag along as i go to the entrance. If the quest is already in progress and someone keeps asking how to get there I ignore them. or tell them to look up the map on the wiki.

I do believe that if you make things 'too easy' a lot of people will never learn to pull their own weight. and will always expect game mechanics to do the work for them or other players.

This is going on for some posts now and got plentiful feedback. Speculations running wild. Why don't you tell us more about the concept behind this new idea of turbine. Not in general like the first post but something solid.

    Like ...
    - will there be enough people in customer service to actually make a differece?
    - will there be more or better options for the reporting tool?
    - will there be warnings before you get banned or any other kind to advocate?
    - will you introduce something entirely different maybe something innovative?
    - when will changes take place? A month, next update, next year?

I am looking forward to some anwsers. Thank you.

Will *toxic player* be someone critizing aspects, people, guilds, certain players or will it just be about the tone and used vocabulary?

Reporting someobody carries a strong potential for unwarranted witch hunts. Reporting needs responsibility as well. I am against some enforced ingame moral police in a more excessive way than it is now.

Bottom line: if you cut or censor speech you cross a line as well. I know for myself I will even more group with guildies and quest alone, if I feel these actions resulted in something other than a free game environment and game experience I enjoy.

    p.s.:
A unified community by the threat of a ban afterthe slightest slip of your own definition of verbal abuse is unified, but not strong. Keep in mind, what you are doing.

This'll be a griefing tool. 95% of "abusive or negative language" is communicated over voice; if you're really looking to weed out people damaging the game environment, fix duping and permaban repeat exploiters.

As far as communication, these forums are far more socially toxic than anything I've experienced in-game.

I so rarely encounter griefing or bad language/manners, I think this is a non-issue.

If you see a teenager bragging in chat about his killcount and you start attacking him and get insulted back, that's on you.

In general, people behave. Might have been different some years ago, but recently it's quite rare to have disruptive elements in groups.

    This is spades!

Not squelching entire accounts allows griefers to simply show up under an alias and keep going. That's frustrating when they're targeting you, the group you're in, or the the channel you're in.

I disagree with this. Usually if a person is toxic, they're toxic to everyone. Healthy adults do not go off on tirades in chat and put others down, and if someone isn't healthy, then they're not healthy.

This is a good change, and it's something that should have happened a long time ago. I can't even imagine how many players have been driven away from this game because of abuse.
