Interesting as my group has yet to have the group not fill on just about any quest heroic to epic and not just on Saturdays. We usually have to turn down some as there are only 1-3 slots.

Any quest? Any time, on Wayfinder or Orien?

Yea I believe you. BTW every time I take a walk around the block I find a 100$ bill on the ground.

Out of curiosity, what do you post on your LFM's? Do you post them and enter the dungeon? Do you wait to see if anyone joins?

    "All Welcome" ?
    "In Prog" ?
    "BYOB"?

    Nothing?

I swear, if I wasn't such a fan of this game, I'd be gone a long time ago. But I still got hope...
I heard that one of the Devs is thinking about chaining their immediately family to a computer, and use a cattle prod on them if they stop playing the game.

it must be pretty bad out there...

I heard the devs said that the solution to low pop is more people playing...just saying.

You can't really be suggesting people take the initiative for their own game experience instead of waiting on someone else to do it for them and when they want them to??

I don't know you. My server has people with certain reputations in which it is very difficult to get people to join them.

I wasn't talking to you, I was talking to the other guy... but,

If you say -always-, then yes, I call it BS. Unless you -always- play the content everybody else plays, and you always play on prime time, or you always have some IRL/Guild buddies to play with you? But your name rings a bell, I'm sure I joined your groups at times, and you joined mine. That's one of the thing that also bothers me , each time I log on Orien and look up the LFM, I often recognise half the names on the list. Not a sign of a huge population if you ask me.

What I'm seeing is that it's much less crowded than it used to be, and sure you can still fill groups if you're patient enough and don't recruit for some really unpopular stuff (IE: Restless Isles/Threnal). I'm sure a remember back in the old days, we could recruit for just anything if you were patient enough. Now I look at the who's list, and it's just impossible for you to assemble a full team for certain content, if you can't rely on IRL buddies/guildies/TR team, whatever.

That's it, you can't assemble a team when there isn't potential candidates.

I remember these days on Khyber. I never needed to throw up an lfm because there was always some up or soon would be some up for any content. 3BC, flagging for Twilight Forge, any Necro chain, any quest with low xp like Mirra's, Sorrowdusk chain or anything unpopular compared to now. the lfm is usually active today with the more popular quests for xp, quests that drop desired loot and flagging for a raid. unpopular quests end up getting shortmanned/soloed or the lfm sits there for a long time eventually disappearing lucky if 1 player even joins.

when people say there is plenty of activity on the lfm, the reasons are usually for what I described above.
    Gary Gygax quotes

The essence of a role-playing game is that it is a group, cooperative experience.

There is no winning or losing, but rather the value is in the experience of imagining yourself as a character in whatever genre you are involved in, whether its a fantasy game, the Wild West, secret agents or whatever else. You get to sort of vicariously experience those things.

Role-playing isn't storytelling. If the dungeon master is directing it, its not a game.

When AI approximates Machine Intelligence, than many online and computer run RPGs will move toward actual RPG activity. Nonetheless, that will not replace the experience of "being there" anymore than seeing a theatrical motion picture can replace the stage play.

The secret we should never let the game masters know is that they don't need any rules.

Default help make new players experience worth it

there is a core of old book players who dont touch this game. i was converted from console gamer to geekin out here;mainly cause of free to play.Vip ,I got into a month or two months later.Free was great way to start.VIP had so many areas open that it was quite overwhelming;I suggest startin free. Sorry to say that people I know, who play ddo and have full commintment to family, really dont have time for this epicly long game..maybee 2-6 quest a week for the old d&d lovers, who are kinda committed to lvln upthen there's the real world;now I'm finally healin from nasty injury ;my ddo time is way down . I imagine most people are the like...geee,I'll Ski or ddo...hmmm no brainer here. When I started ddo, player 'eliteism' was way bad..even my buddies pumkinheaded me and didnt tell me what was goin on(it lasted way long then,too)..players are bashed or lied to when askin questions in chat(blockin troublemakers helps alot);instead of helpin get xps ,my vet 'friends' would just show me their items in text and give BS answers alot.Hell, the one dude asked me for airship buff donations..(.uh,i was a new player w no platinum yet),not to mention he told me he has 15 mill plat the day b4.When they saw I couldnt jump far..they brought me into all the jump req dungeons, nice one.How bout the tavern PVP area...should have a sign warning of explicit /rude content, poor newbs who venture in there I feel for..Treat new players like I was treated, when new, & this game is doomed.Worst for the newbs ,is runnin behind someone who zergs way ahead and teaches nothing, which is the norm unfortunately,in most low lvl stuff.

And you cannot assemble a Group if you don't put up a LFM and you cannot Quest if you "hardly ever play".

Don't worry about me. What I'd like is you to worry about the state of the game we both play, even though I play much less than before.

Cannith currently has the most logins per day since it's the new default server. I would say that any server other than Wayfinder and possibly Orien (the 2 lowest number of logins) would be fine choices. I play on Argo and there is still a decent amount of activity during US prime time. It can get sparse at other times tho.

If you want to do a bit of unofficial research, the site has good info, if you take it at face value (it tracks logins and NOT players)

    Default I personally don't care

if I am the last person on Argo. I do not want a server merge simply because I'm not willing to take the chance I will be the one who loses my character names and putting a -Argo or whatever at the end of my character's name is the same as losing it.

I would be ok if they offered free character moves from the lower pop servers to the higher ones. That way the movers can choose to lose their character names.

Just a question out of curiosity for those who say they're against server merges/threaten to leave DDO if they lose their character name(s).

Say you want to introduce one of your friends to DDO, they come to the game to find out that their name is already taken and so they don't even give it a try. What would you think?

The game will go until it dies, or money isn't being made and it closes. Same as any other mmo. This ones no different and in fact actually does have a pretty good size of players considering how old it is. Seriously if their were most any other mmo id be stone dead with end game players sitting around asking for donations for buffs...

That said it will die eventually, and then idk turb will probably whip out a new game before hand to move most of the player base over and get new ones and start over. Or they could just say (edit) this and concentrate fully on lotr and expanding it to more party dungeon from low levels up like what ffxiv did.
