Default advice on this build please

    Hi all.

I was looking originally at a 1 rogue/19 ranger. i then realised that there is not much ranger gives additional from ranger level 11 onwards, so my build landed up being 1rogue/11ranger/8fighter to include the kensai tree and push my crits.

my aim of this toon is to be great for both bow damage and trapping. have not put much into 2 weapon fighting.

I know i need to redo 1 or 2 skill points and more than likely relook at an enhancement selection or 2. All in all i think it is a pretty solid build. I have not selected a feat for level 24 as i would like epic toughness but am not sure if my con requirement would include items also or if i will not be able to select epic toughness. if i cannot then i will either go for another toughness, power critical or resilience (as my will save leaves alot to be desired). At level 27 i also considered taking perma haste as opposed to watchful eye, but my logic is that if my spot is not high enough my search definitely should be

i look forward to your feedback. thanks

Any stat requirements for feats is base stat plus tomes only. So you will need at best a 17 con since you have a +4 con, otherwise you are looking at putting some level ups into Con to get Epic Toughness.

In that case, you should probably consider a monkcher with Slaying Arrows, rather than a rgr / ftr w/Keen Edge.

Thanks. I thought that may be the case. Well have to see if I can squeeze it in, but probably won't be able to

I have not done the maths but I was thinking with the additionally crit chance and damage plus paralyzing the overall damage output would be better. Does + to dc for tactical abilities affect the paralyze or slaying?

Paralyzing arrows will stop enemies, but you don't get any additional damage from that. Fighter tactical boosts do not help with the DC for arcane archer abilities. The difference with the Slaying arrow ability (as opposed to a general critical threat increase) is that you use it and you're guaranteed the extra damage if it hits. And there are other abilities in epic levels that also expand the critical range - if you combine those with Slaying arrow, it can add up to a lot of damage.

Slaying Arrow, despite the name, isn't an instakill effect, but a flat +250 pts of dmg to your atk; there is no DC attached to it. What makes it potent is it's a pre-crit dmg bonus. There's a reason why Slaying Arrow + Manyshot + IPS + Adrenaline or Unbridled Fury is seen as one of if not the best burst DPS option in DDO.

Paralyzing arrow, as stated, has a flat DC per tier and does not boost your DPS because it doesn't cause helplessness.

One of the other reasons for going monkcher is 10K Stars works with bows if you have Zen Archery. So the idea is to alternate between 10K and MS to keep your sustained rate-of-fire as high as possible.

Paralyzing Arrows, also, has a flat and unboostable DC, which will *not* scale well into endgame. Its pretty much a Heroic-only "win button"...going into later Epic content, all it'll do is proc a lot of "Saved" flytexts. 5% chance to stick with a 95% chance on the recurring save isn't a reliable CC.

Thanks for all the advice. definitely looking to monk rather than fighter splash.

have realised that due to being an elf short of having a +5 con or putting 3 of my stat boost into con instead of dex there is no way i can get my epic toughness, so will balance up if it is that important to me.

was looking at going h-elf for the cleric dill but then i need ot put more stat points into wis and i lose all the elven bonuses to using a bow, including using dex for damage.

am gonna play around with adding monk into the build and will post it here.

    thanks again for the feedback

I was having a look and cannot figure out what monk adds besides making the bow a ki weapon and 10k stars. the forms dont do much for the build as the speed increase is only for thrown weapons. please let me know what i am not seeing if i take monk.

    thanks

Monk gives you 10k stars & Master earth stance for crit multiplier. Additionally, there's the fringe benefit of shadow veil that adds nicely to your life expectancy. 10k stars alone would be worth it, though.

First draft of an elven monkcher. I tried to keep the core abilities of your original build: namely ranged DPS, Shadow DM, DEX-to-ranged-dmg, and rog skills.

yar with a monk star build the name of the game is stacking wis to the moon. But the final result to take it to the max is Getting the past lives to meet the stat requirements for overwhelming crit, combat archery, And something else wis based epic wise.

Then its all about the number of hits instead of the power of hits. (Still want a punch though.)

And if it comes to it, you can always switch up, get some +10 wraps like graves and nail most anything EE with a stun and beat its brains out. Or do a quick stun, switch out again and then unload manyshot/10k with slayer, and couple other shots.

Id probably go 2 fighter instead of rog for the bonuses from the kensei tree, but the rog will definitely help you for traps.

Race wise I would go either human or helf. The reason being they have temporary increases in stats by I believe 3 when a boost is active. The human gets 2 or 3 stats to boost while I think the helf is one or 2. So that's another quick boost to wis for extra arrows as well as some extra str added when you hit your dmg boost. Combined further with a speeded up haste boost.

The extra amp doesn't hurt either for later on using cocoon for heals. I like helf cause it usually makes leveling easier just whipping heal scrolls and wands and switching the dili, but in the end id think human was better for endgame.
