    Default Need Suggests on best way to make an Iconic Dwarven Cleric

    For me in any DnD-esque game (or at least one with mutli-classing and dwarves) I pretty much always make a Cleric/Fighter or Cleric/Paladin (or C/F/P) and I'm trying to recreate that in DDO.

    This does not need to be a raid healer...mainly a tank with decent self-healing (yeah I know a single-class paladin can do that but this is for flavour) at least though I want to pick up the Radiant Aura and on the Paladin or Fighter end I'd like to pick up the defender stance so that basically puts both at minimum 6 (Cleric 6 and Fighter or Pally 6) and preferably pick up divine grace so minimum 2 Pally.

    Also I want this character to be in heavy armor and carrying around the biggest shield possible so no reason to bother with Monk or Rogue.

    Lastly I'm not very familiar with the divine classes so could use some general advice in that area

    Anyways my current plan is a Con/Cha Based Hammer user (bludgeoning is personal cleric/dwarf trope) w/ Dex/Wis secondary. Level plan is Cleric12/Fighter6/Pally2 or Cleric12/Pally6/Fighter 2 depending on feat needs (pref. Pally6) with enhancement focus on Radiant Servant & Stalwart/DoS and of course Dwarf...my hope is too pick up the Dwarven DM as well.

    Any help would be appreciated

    Super-mega Bonus: If a dev can add an option for eberronians to use a warhammer as a favored weapon (ie. Onator from the Sovereign Host) I would be eternally grateful

    Would you consider FvS instead of cleric? Downside is losing RS bursts / auras; upside is more SPs, higher saves, WIS becomes a dump stat (take FoP if Will saves are an issue), and Shield of Condemnation has obvious applications to a tank (esp. if combined with Light Guard from Warpriest).

    For me the biggest question mark is whether you're going for Block & Cut, which is an obvious DPS perk from Stalwart but chews up at least 33 APs. If you are, then pal 2 / ftr 6 / cleric or FvS 12 is the way to go.
    Revisiting the Classics: Axesinger / Dwarven Defender / Drow Ninja / Drow Paladin / Elven Ranger / Monkcher / Sacred Vanguard
    Other build threads: Cleric Domains / Kundarak Brigade / Iconic Builds
    My Build Index: a Motley Menagerie of Original Rapscallions, Pugilists, and Gimps!

    Well w/ Divine Grace the div between FvS and cleric saves won't hurt as much and I REALLY REALLY like the idea of a tank with healing aura (and improved empowered healing and unyielding sovereignty)

    FvS would be better DPS but the Focus for this build is Tanking Primary, Healing Secondary which I'd say the cleric version would pull off better (although the Shoulder Cannon and Shield of Condemnation is VERY tempting)

    Hmmm...FvS 12/Cleric6/Paladin2? Is that insane? This build is doubly hit by the limited diety selection

    Edit: NVM, I'm dumb that doesn't get a defender stance...think,think,think....*wanders off to ponder*

    PLEASE DEVS!!! Hear my Cry! Split up the sovereign host...no need to change anything else just copy+paste Sovereign Host a bunch of times than just change the deity name and the affected weapon (The Sovereign of Forge and Flame would be my Patron & I would wield his mighty warhammer with honour and grace)

    Honestly, based on my experience with S&B builds of late, I would say...skip S&B. A THF/TWF cleric 13 / pal 6 / ftr 1 build has most of the defensive benefits, better DPS, and is somewhat less feat- and AP-starved: no need for shield feats and no need to take Gtr Sacred Stance bonuses since they're S&B-only.

    For example:
    Code:

    You can choose to sacrifice, say, metamagics and Warpriest enhs for S&B feats and more APs into Sacred D., but what exactly do you gain by doing that? The problem is a semi-decent S&B build is so AP- and feat-intensive there's not much left over for other things; but if you can't afford that investment, then you might as well not go S&B in the first place, IMHO.

    Well It wouldn't hurt the character I'm going for "flavour-wise" too much so I'm willing to entertain the possibility of going THF since you make a good point (also mauls look cool :P)...that said why the 13th cleric level (instead of picking up another feat from fighter)...I know its not for the 2 lvl 6 spell slot since you have a starting Wisdom of 10 so Blade Barrier won't be hitting anything any time soon so only Heal really matters.

    Mine was THF and I took the dragonmark feat to mess around with, but S&B with a dwarven axe should work just fine. I also took the paladin levels at 15 & 16 instead of 3 & 4, because I wanted to hit blade barrier as soon as possible. The defenses are outstanding, the radiant aura was outstanding, and with all the Con for TYWA the HP were insane; I was virtually unkillable.

    Astreya the Unturning

    It's always a shame when the hammer of poor design choices smashes the fun of player tactical adaptation.

    Don't discount blade barrier on a character with poor DC. It's still an excellent spell if you solo at all. You just accept the fact that every single enemy is going to make their save. Most enemies don't have evasion, so they still take 50% damage, and you can just kite them repeatedly through it. It's also great for grabbing aggro in quests with a lot of spawns who follow predicatble paths -- Tor, Devil Assault, etc.

    All that said -- your question doesn't really make sense. I think you're mixing up favored souls and clerics.

    A level 12 cleric has 4 6th level spell slots, not 1. What you get with level 13 is 3 7th level spell slots. Whether you care about that is going to depend on what you want your role to be -- 7th level spells don't help much from the perspective of a self-buffing melee, and most of the nice spells (Greater Restoration, Resurrection, etc.) are available on scrolls. But if you want to play more of a general support role in parties, Mass Protection From Elements and Mass Cure Serious are awesome.

    Hmmmm...seems I was looking at the wrong chart lol...thx for pointing that out...as for 12 vs 13 cleric it all depends on how many feats I need...I'm also still not sure whether I'm going Cleric12/Fighter6/Pally2 or Cleric12-13/Pally6/Fighter1-2...which is better Stalwart or Sacred? (just the enhancement trees themselves) I'd assume the latter is better if I don't need the extra feats but I really don't know.

    Note: Looking through them imo Sacred Defender is better but I'd still like your opinions...now I've got a game of Star Wars to DM but I will be posting an actual build plan before I crash.

    Depends how high you want to climb up their trees and what you're after. Sacred D. has better defensive buffs like aura bonuses and Harbored by Light (tho taking it blocks our RS aura); it also boosts your Pos spellpower and you can pick up Extra LoHs which will also power Light the Dark. Apart from the extra feats, going Stalwart D. has better DPS from Shield Striking, Block & Cut (again, can't have B&C and RS aura), Counterattack, and Reprisal (tho the last two only apply after blocking).

    I staggered out my cleric & pally lvls partly to max out skills (Concentration, Intim, and Heal) and partly to get cleric goodies ASAP; auras can't be taken until char lvl 12 but bursts can be picked up @ cleric lvl 6 and you'll want those ASAP, IMHO. Bursts + Ameliorating Strikes should meet a lot of your AoE heal needs early on. But the downside to my build is waiting until lvl 20 to pick up defensive stance.

    Well regardless I'm picking up the Aura so for this build at least the defender tier 5s are irrelevant looking over everything again I really think Pally/Sacred-D is the most synergistic

    Found this thread and thought I'd give my input as I have (what I feel to be) a solid AC/damage mitigation build for my cleric. She solos really well and gets along with most parties. Meet Margarethe:

    (All stats given are unbuffed, with "standard gear" [see below] equipped, in Unyielding Sentinel, UB stance)
    The basics:

    Dwarf Cleric, Currently 25 (19 clr 1 ft), on 5th life (3 cleric, 1 fvs)

    HP 674
    SP 2311
    AC 157
    DR: 10/Epic 5/- 10/pierce
    PRR: 118

    Fort 45
    Ref 33
    Will 39
    Fortification 165%

    str 14 -> 24
    dex 16 -> 26
    con 13 -> 25
    Int 8 -> 12
    Wis 23 -> 35
    Cha 10 -> 22
    (Base -> Enhance/feats/Tomes)

    Feats

    3x clr past life, 1x fvs past life passive
    Emp Heal
    Emp Spell
    Extend
    Maximize
    Quicken
    Imp. Mental toughness
    Shield mastery/Imp. shield mastery
    Unyielding Sovereignty

    Enhancements

    Racial:

    Dwarven armor mastery 3
    Shield Mastery 3
    Child of the mountain 3
    Stand like stone 3
    Dwarf Fortress 3
    1st/2nd/3rd core abilities

    Warpriest:

    Toughness 3
    Sacred Touch 3
    Awareness 2
    Righteous Weapons (up to 3rd tier)
    Wall of Steel 3
    1st/2nd/3rd/4th core abilities

    Radiant Servant:

    Extra turning 3
    Bliss 1
    Improved Turning 3
    Mighty Turning 1
    Imp. Emp. Heal 3
    +1 Wis
    Intense Healing 1
    Endless Turning 3
    Pos. Energy Aura 1
    1st/2nd/3rd/4th core abilities

    ED: Unyielding Sentinel

    Divine Energy Resistence 3
    Brace For Impact 2
    Shield Prowess 3
    Fanaticism
    Legendary Shield Mastery 3
    Spark of Life 1
    Purify Weapon 1
    Hardened 3
    Strength of vitality 2

    Twists

    Walking with the Waves 3 (GMoF)
    Lithe 3 (SD)
    Dragonhide 3 (DI)

    Standard Gear

    Blue Dragon Helm (EN)
    Blue Dragon Plate
    Jorgundal's Collar (EN)
    Greater Bold trinket
    Con Op GS Cloak
    Belt of the Sun Soul
    Epic Buccaneers Ring
    Fabricators Gauntlets
    Boots of Propulsion
    Ancient Band (EH)
    Fabrcators Bracers

    Oathblade (and several, several others, too many to list here)
    Bastion (EH)

    Augments

    Topaz of Deathblock (Collar)
    Sapphire of Natural armor +7 (Buccaneer)
    Topaz of power 200 (ancient band)
    Topaz of Heavy Fort (Blue Dragon plate)
    Topaz of feather falling (Blue dragon helm)

    I think that pretty much covers everything... I left out 1 feat because I need to swap it for bulwark of defence to give another slight bump, as well as changing the topaz of FF in the blue dragon helm to a topaz of PRR +14. All said and done, when I have my aura on, with ship buffs, resting at 163, PRR 121 (135 when the topaz gets switched). AC goes up to 167 once I do the swap, which is a 78% chance to defend (22% chance to hit). The 4th core from Warpriest gives 20% (80% chance to hit) blur to further mitigate damage. The last piece I need is the ring of shadows to give ghostly (another 10% miss chance, 90% to hit) and something for 5% dodge. Enemies at lvl will have a 15% chance to hit(.22*.8*.9*.95=.15048 to hit), with PRR reducing any damage by 45% and then going through 26 DR of various sorts. % chance to hit can be further reduced to 14.2 by taking Elusive Target EDF. All said and done, Marg can stand in the fray without fear and still dish out the heals that are required to keep the party alive.

    Speaking of healing/spell power, Marg has no problems casting the odd cometfall or bb if things get harry. While her healing output is not optimal by any means, it is more than sufficient to take care of most parties if you take a back seat and focus on the heals. I built her mainly as a solo cleric, so she does quite well on her own. Her melee dps does leave a little to be desired, but you can't have it all, am I right? It can be bumped up a little bit by trading some AC for dmg by trading Walking With the Waves for Sense Weakness, but that really depends on what you need and what weapons you have available to you.

    NB: I know there's a lot of room for improvement for my gear, but at present it works well for my playstyle. I am also aware of the redundancies in some of the gear, and am working towards correcting them (for instance, changing the ancient band to the Ring of Shadows to fix the fort redundancy.) All stats mentioned above are for my normal, every day running. I gear slightly different for raids and parties I'm pugging than for raids/parties with people I know, and obv. gear switches for different situations (e.g. having to do more melee than healing or vice versa.)

    I've done some testing and it is possible to fit in TYWA, Hands of Stone (Dragonmark line), Healing Aura AND a decent Sacred Stance but the APs are VERY tight.
