Lightbulb The Pack Horse Build (mule)

    The Pack Horse Build (mule)
    Bladeforged Iconic
    1 Paladin / 14 Artificer

    About The Build

This build is something I have been trying to work out for quite some time and finally I think I have come up with something...

The premise is to make a character at level 15 and to be able to pretty much use whatever gear they come with (excluding the repeating crossbow and runearm), it is designed to be able to self heal, DPS, buff, open locks, disable traps and find secret doors where needed. All of this is to facilitate getting the required favor to unlock the extra inventory and bank slots via the Coin Lords and House K favor rewards.

This build isn't really new player friendly and that is by design because by the time you will want a mule you will have probably been playing a while and amassed gear of various sorts and you will obviously need access to Iconics as well as the Artificer class, on the plus side though no tomes are required to make the build work.

Anyway on to the build itself...

    Gearing Up

For top DPS I would say to use a Alchemical heavy repeater and The Turmoil Within runearm. If you don't have those then pretty much anything will work since it's mostly a lot of low level quests which you will shred through regardless, it won't be until the higher level quests (VoN) that you will need the extra DPS.

The only other stuff you will be needing is items for Search, Disable Device and Open Locks which you should be able to find on the AH for not that much really or you can Cannith Craft them yourself (I have a full set of +13's BTA for this reason). Beyond that it's just the usual stuff which should be covered in the starter kit and of course you will need a set of Thieves Tools

Other than that the basic starter kit that they automatically get should be enough to see you through to all the favor you need

    Thanks for reading!

A mule with 8 STR seems... wrong. Loot is heavy (especially armor). Bladeforged already has Recon SLA, why the need for Artificer? I can't think of a quest where you HAVE to disarm the traps to complete, nor any secret door in heroics where Cannith crafted Detect Secret Door or True Seeing item can't get.

My mule are 1Pal/12Mnk/2Rgr but since on a 2nd account piking the favor, the emphasis is on run speed to get the character where I want it since I'm not going to favor farm a pendant of time as well. (+25% Speed V, +20% Mnk Movement, +50% Rgr Sprint Boost). Max STR to hold all that loot, rest in CON or whatever.

A character I would actually play I'd leverage the Paladin level you have to take anyway with evasion and simply run through traps.

    4Pal/9Mnk/2Ftr

STR: 16 + All Level ups
    DEX: 12
    CON: 17
    WIS: 6
    INT: 8
    CHA: 15

Improved Evasion. Staff Specialization via Henshin. Divine Might. Haste Boost. Recon SLA. Monk movement speed.
Only thing you'd have to do is move some sort of Wizardry or Archmage SP item, a Theurgic Stave slotted with Recon, and a Cannith crafted Detect secret door or True Seeing item (and not even sure need that for favor runs).

*EDIT* Actually, it's probably better to take 2 Rogue instead of fighter for Thief Acrobatics and still get access to haste boost. There's also an argument for 2Rgr still for Sprint Boost as it is painfully slow to get around without a Pendant of Time, and as mostly doing under-level quests can easily sprint boost through it.

It is designed around my guide for unlocking the favor which has a few quests where traps are pretty nasty and so would rather just disable them to make life easier, I have been starring at numbers for days on this and racking my brains to find the best split/s and it's really hard thanks to the how Iconics work I do like the idea behind your build though I am just trying to think up something myself.

As for the the 8 STR that will be boosted up with items and should be plenty to hold tons of gear, I am pretty selective in what I keep these days compared to how I used to be.

Any level 15 toon can run low level dungeons for favor. I dont think you need to list a specific build... but if you did, 2 Pally, 13 Sorc would be the most obvious.

I would think a shadar-kai would be the more natural fit for this, with maybe 7 cleric levels tossed in for self heals, FOM and DW.

Yea I took a look at that guide. Bookbinder and Repossession are quite a PITA without disarming the traps, hence I skip them when farming Coin Lord favor. I'll post my favor quests in your other thread, maybe give you something to think about.

And yea, favor grinding is no fun (at least to me) so having something befitting one's playstyle is infinitely better than the best min-max combo. Lately I've been on a q-staff kick, so seems like I'm trying to apply it to EVERYTHING. In heroics, not much beats a good repeater build but I can't be bothered to farm out the necessary items, lol.

Hmmm, its really hard to beat Recon SLA for self healing. WF immunities make FOM less a necessity (immune to hold person which is common at the lower favor farm levels) and Ice/Sleet Storm rare enough in the favor quests where I don't think I would need it often.

Equipment has deathblock; the negative energy damage, well, Recon SLA

I did think of something like this but I wanted something a bit more durable for the higher level House K quests and the Recon SLA is just too good to pass up imho, I did make a 2 Paladin 13 Sorc version a while ago which worked out quite well and I am not that great with Sorcs but it could be an option. It would also mean not needing the Artificer class so would make it more new player friendly to a point I guess.

I did this with a Shadar-Kai. Took 7/4/4 F/FVS/R and Ameliorating Strike. Worked fine.

Created one of these today and ran it through all the Coin Lords quests and it was a blast! Flame Turret works wonders for killing mobs off just by standing next to it (not as good a Blade Barrier but you can't have everything ). The Reconstruct SLA hits like a freight train (400+ HP) and with only having just over 300HP with starting gear that is pretty good.

Overall really happy with it so far just got to run through the House K stuff next

Approximately how long does it take your build to run through the necessary quests?

Using my guide it takes a few hours, mostly due to the running about and the House K quests take longer. The Coin Lords stuff is super fast (say 2 hours maybe?). I didn't really take notice of the time or try to do it as fast as possible so giving you a definitive time frame is pretty hard

What is the purpose of the build ? Does "Pack Horse" mean it will be a storage tune that you use to farm gear ?

"Pack Horse" is just a term used about an actual horse which is used to carry heavy loads from one place to another... in this case it is simply for storing items for later use such as stat tomes, BTA weapons and armor, SP pots etc etc. Beyond getting the favour for unlocking the extra storage space it won't be used at all but with some gear swaps you could probably make it usable.

As a side note I am currently re-visiting this build and looking at 13 Sorc / 2 Paladin split since that is easier than having to have the Artificer class. I've never really run a Sorc before so this is going to be interesting but having now done a Wizard life I have a better understanding of how everything works so hopefully that will help.

PS - Sorry for such a late reply to your question.
