The amount of grinding required to get this stuff means it should be competitive for the slot. Not unequivocally best in slot (but nothing should be unequivocally best in slot), but certainly something that should make you go "hmmm" when selecting your gear.

    I like your ideas
I still use the ring and spyglass as swap items when needed. Might use both full time on some characters with the upgrades you suggest.

I would love to see some of these ideas make it in game.

Maybe a couple of new items are needed as well? Maybe another weapon type or 2? Maybe some items like upgraded version of the newer items found in three barrel cove?

While worth it this item would be the longest grind we have seen in a while. With a total ?27300? Green Dragon Shards it most possibly could take more then one event to get them all.

    Default Thank you Aelonwy

Great thread...and really, upgrading the Cove loot from a Dev perspective or DDO staff perspective is easy compared to creating the loot from scratch, and the ROI for those DEV hours would be positive.

Basically, they'd have the following benefits:
    Base items = done,
    modeling = done,
    texturing = done,
    colors = maybe slight modifications,
    crafting tool UI = done,
game balance = huge baseline from lvl20 versions to draw info from,

Benefit of a mass of players farming this content for 10s of hours each

The main workload would be creating a version of each item for each teir in the lvl 24 range and the lvl 28 range and adding them to the table...then creating the UI crafting box recipes and linking them to the new versions.

Soooo...less work than normal to allow me (calculating just me here) ~100 hours play.
and....meeting and getting to know other players--more than usual for me due to this specific event....and NOTE, I will spend maybe 2 hours in the event if there is no loot upgrade, and I know many who feel and will do the same.

I'll start with the Treasure Hunter Spyglass

Lvl24 Tier 1 Spot +20, Search +20, UMD+3, True Seeing, Insightful Intelligence +2, Green Augment Slot and Blindness Immunity (only 1 difference from fully upgraded lvl 20)
Upgrade Tier 2 Add Colorless Slot
Upgrade Tier 3 Insightful Intelligence +3

Lvl28 Tier 1 Spot+20, Search+20, UMD+3, True Seeing, Insightful Intelligence +3, Green and Colorless Augment Slots, Blindness Immunity (No different from fully upgraded lvl 24)
Upgrade Tier2 Colorless Slot becomes Yellow
Upgrade Tier 3 UMD bonus becomes +5

Too powerful for level 28? Or not enough for a 28th level epic trinket?
    What would you do differently?

How would you upgrade the other gear from Crystal Cove for both 24th and 28th level?

I saw a recent twitch video of Cordovan's where he mentioned Cove would be coming back but there would be no changes to it so I sent him a message about this thread, strictly as ideas for changes, and this was the response...

So we can still have hope but no changes any time soon.

I have to say since the thread only achieved two pages it didn't really generate the interest I expected and that probably factors into why updating Cove is a low priority.

    What's the point?

They are going to (regretfully) put out Three Barrel Cove as epic. Do we really need two epic pirate themed gear items in the game?

For some reason the forums will just not let me edit my own post. The unhappy face at the end of Cordovans quote is mine not his, I'm not sure how it got included in the quote but whatever. I'd fix it if it let me but it just won't open the edit post function.

Crystal Cove is an event open to everyone. Epic 3BC is P2P. So yes there is a point. Now if they were to add Crystal Cove to 3BC as a Challenge quest/zone then you would have a valid argument but then I would contend that as part of a pay-for-pack it ought to be brought up to date for the content it would be released with. As far as I know that will not be the case though.

I would LOVE to see Cove loot upgraded, but given their lack of response (and budget appearantly), I don't think the devs are interested. Which is a real shame, it's my absolute favorite event.

I would like to see them correct the mistake they made with the Heroic to Epic transition of the Dagger, especially now that spell lore is so cr@py so my version is redesigned to be more in line with heroic, but with the third tier of each upgrade players who preferred generic lore can add it back:

    ML24: T1:
    +7 Implement +21
    Potency +74
Spell Lore replaced by 17% Fire, Ice and Lightning
Concentration +20 (due to weakness of this skill overall)
    Efficient Maximize II
Lesser Maximize duration increased to 60 seconds.
    Efficient Empower II
    Yellow Slot

    Tier 2:
Yellow slot upgrades to Orange and adds Insightful Concentration +5 +7 becomes +8 (+24 impl) Lore Mastery 2%

    Tier 3:
Fire, Ice, Lightning Lore replaced with Spell Lore 12%

    ML28:
    +10 (+30)
    Potency +100
Fire, Ice, Lightning Lore 18% adds Acid Lore 18%
    Concentration +25
    Insightful concentration +10
Efficient Maximize II (do not want to obsolete Meridian Fragment)
Lesser Maximize becomes "Lesser Metamagics" (reduces all Meta costs)
    Efficient Empower III
    Orange Slot
    Lore Mastery 4%

    Tier 2:
    Red slot +12 (+36 impliment)

    Tier 3:
Elemental Lore 18% becomes Spell Lore 14%*

Favorite event as compared to what? Festival of the Traveler? Ha! Winter ice skating? Please... By useful you mean the loot/gear you pull out of Crystal Cove. Let's call it what it is. Crystal Cove represents the same system with slight changes that we see in most of the in-game challenges. Make Crystal Cove a challenge so people can run it whenever they want to get their plunderin' on.

My favourite event in comparison to other DDO events and the reasons why:

    Other events:
Festival of the Traveler - Timed easter egg hunt with essentially a single piece of chest loot as a reward that would be much easier and quicker to achieve in a quest which would also be giving you xp. The only rewards worth getting from this event are store drops which lets face it are either useless fluff or something really good which almost has to be a bug. I mean if you spent TP to upgrade your Festival of the Traveler reward and got something decent and worth the price of admission... its probably a bug.

Risia Ice Games - Not a fan of Super Mario style jumping games. I do not have good latency on my PC and I've never had good timing in or out of a game. I will select 2-3 items each season that absolutely have to be icy bursted and pay plat for my ingredients to do so.

Midwinter Festival - Ok the race is a little more fun mostly because everything is just a little bit randomized each time and I get to try to beat my score. But once again after say the 10th or so run I'm more or less bored of it and there isn't anything else to it.

Mabar - Ok this would be somewhat fun if I could beat the dragon instance more than 1/3 to 1/2 the time. My PC during the dragon fight stutters and sometimes whole minutes pass with my screen frozen then suddenly it catches up and hundreds of numbers stream by usually with my character dead by that time but not always. This sucks the fun out of this event and makes it feel like a chore. Also there is a longer time between the opening of the dragon event then there is between the Cove openings or it seems that way and you can get two cove runs each opening, not so with the dragon.

Crystal Cove - Similiar to Mabar you have to kill mobs in a wilderness zone and collect pieces from them to open the actual event instance but unlike Mabar you can occasionally fight named baddies with treasure maps that lead to treasure chests. Fun. The whole mechanic of that is awesome. The drop rate of the map pieces versus the mabar items seems better, cove seems to open quicker than a dragon instance, and you can do two cove runs back to back so less down time grinding mobs if thats not your thing. Being able to choose your team and run it with fewer people if necessary is also nice and less frustrating. Cove has a greater selection of items and the customizable hats although changes to random loot have made them less desireable. The placement of the crystals and the way they blow up offer just enough random to the instances themselves to keep it interesting without making it aggravating. But what really makes me happy are all the kobold voices and the incredible amount of personality they were given. In fact this tickles me so much everytime the event opens I play the little Kobold Still Hate You song and my kids sing along to it. Even the instruction book the foreman gives you is full of little jokes and reminds me very much of the way such things are presented in PnP. All full of fun and humor.

So yes Cove is my favorite event and with good reason.

Would also be a perfect excuse for the devs to add a few new augment.

    Swashbuckling Looters gem
    - Colorless slot
    -min lvl 1
-grants a +1 profane bonus to loot that stacks with all loot bonus gems, weekends bonus and chest blessers.

    Caster augment
    Augment of the high tides
2% chance on spell cast to cause aoe crushing waves effect that scales with weapon level
Can only happen once per 3 seconds
    -equips to Red slot

    Melee augment
    Augment of action
    min level 7
This augment grants a extra use of your action boosts at level 7, 2 extra at level 15 and 3 extra at level 20
    equips to Colorless slot
