    Default sorc build

    Hey all looking at TR my lvl 20 drow wiz and making a go of a sorc. Never TR before nor have I played a sorc so abit new to the idea but basically Ive had a PM wizard and just wanted something abit more dps now. I'm pretty open minded to any suggestions for this but basically looking at a good balance between dps and survivability so was thinking WF for the self heals.

    Anyway ive played with two builds on the generator and will put them below to get peoples opinions but still open to something else really
    also I have no idea about gear, even my wizard is alittle behind in her gear so any adviuce is appreciated

    just saw one of these on khyber yesterday.....

    bladeforged (u will need to TR into it)

    Sorc17/Fvs2/Wiz1

    for bladeforged start with 1Pal/2Fvs/17Sorc. after u reach 20th level, LR+1 to change Pal level into Wiz1.

    wiz1 taken at 1st level get a bonus wiz feat and allows u to take 4 ranks of Repair and eventual to max the Repair skill for higher repair spell power. u also get 15-20 more spell points then if u had taken that 18 level of sorc. u don't get 9th level spells but that doesn't bother me. delayed blast firebal is better then meteor swarm anyway.

    First things first: What type of Sorc do you want to be? 14S/4Fvs/2Pal Pure Spammer, 18S/2Fvs Shiradi or 18S/2P which could be DI or Shiradi I guess.
    Then dont take thoose feats Mithral Body, Improved Fortification, Improved Damage Reduction they are garbage and a waste of a slot on a caster and maybe on any warforged.

    Good feats for a Sorc are: Maximize, Empower, Mental Tougness, Improved Mental Toughness, Toughness, Quicken, PL: Wiz (for MM) or Sorc (for more SP to spam).
    If you are going DI you could replace the Mental Toughness stuff with Spell Focus Evocation and take the Wiz PL for the extra DC.

    Edit: Enchantment wise dont take Scroll Mastery it is bugged. And Invest in a Second element. And you dont need Protection From Elements spells and Teleport/Heroism/Greater Heroism taking up Spell slots if you can just scroll cast them.

    I did grab maxamise but admitadly not the other metamagics I wasn't really sure the others would be much use but ill look at working them in. slightly surprised about the no mithril body seems pretty relient on just doscents which I thought were pretty **** :P but will also take a look at that never done a WF before so

    The spells again a lot of them I wasn't sure about taking but didn't seem to be many other handy ones, I suppose picking up another element will help that.

    Its important to determine whether you want to build an epic sorc or a heroic sorc. Are u tr-ing again at 20 or moving on to epics?

    Building a shiradi sorc for epics is quite different than building an easy tr heroic sorc

    Either way, take empower/maximise early and start tossing those slas

    out of your two builds. Build 1 is serviveability and Build 2 is DPS.

    SOmething you might want to consider is taking two lvls of ether Monk or Rogue for evasion.

    I personally just Had a 16/2/2 sorc/pala/monk by lvl 20 had around 50 in all saves by 28 75 and with evasion i wasnt taking that half hamage hich can still
    be enough to take your hp down.

    I went Sorc 1-6 (get fireball for big killing)
    Pala 7-8 ( Char for all saves.)
    Sorc 9-14 (reconstruct lvl 6 spell)
    Monk 15-16 (Evasion + also 2 extra combat feats which for me went into 2 toughness without usng one of the core lvling feats)
    Sorc 17-20 (Delayed Fireball) Which isn't as good as meteor in my opinion but still good

    What you would have here is a high saves character that can walk through most traps and in some cases have more reflex that the pure rogue thats meant to be doing traps.

    as a sorc u wanna take Empower and max as feat 1 +3 then you can use the Enhancment spells with both turnd on and only use 2/4/6 SP depending on the level of spell.

    You have no need for Wisdom or intel (and lvl 4 tomes come into effect at lvl 15 i belive) Dex still ok for Ac as you are gonna be taking atlo of aggro.

    Your enhancements are a bit .....all over the place.

    Eldritch Knight only need to take 5 points and then the second Core enhancement to get rid of the 5% arcane fail on all spells. tend to go 1 into the toughness and the other 3 into concentration/Spellcraft

    Ignore the WF tree to start with. THe Toughness is gd but uses 2 AP each which can be used better in Fire at the start of lvling. Burning Hands Enhancement + Max will kill quite e few kings with only a 2 SP cost at max rank.

    I guess I was slightly looking at the epics after this run cant really see myself wanting to lvl all the way again but not sure if that will change the build all that much or if I can do that with the destiny stuff *which I know nothing about*

    Noted with the WF feats but why empower AND maximise? I just thought maximise was a better version of empower.

    I had abit of a look at the toaster seemed alittle convoluted and didn't like the only 14 sorc for the most part. so drop the wisdom fair enough the intel I thought was needed for the skill points but ill look at it and change up the enhancements abit mmmk
    so the mage armour thing in eldritch isnt worth it? and not sure about loosing meteor swarm but ill have a play on the generator and see

    you can and should use both simultaneously on your spell like abilities (where they are applied for free) and on your big nukes / damage-over-time spells when you need stuff to die ASAP.

    Having a Level 20 Drow Wizard and a WF Sorc are two very different builds.

    Drow Wizard - (This does not apply to a PM, but since you didn't say you were a PM, I'm assuming you were an archmage-type build) A Generalist - generally squishy due to low Con and relies on scrolls, hirelings, and party members to keep them alive. Can specialize, but with the ability to pick and choose spells at will, so very flexible for groups. High number of feats allow Wizards to be good at many things, but unless consciously deciding to specialize, not GREAT at any one thing.

    WF Sorc. - The self-sufficient, shoot-em-up, Blow-it-up, damage output canon of DDO. High Constitution and repair spells give this type of toon very high survivability. The downfall of a Sorc is that they must specialize. They are a one- or two-trick pony that, in some content, are less than optimal. They get no extra feats and a set number of spells, so you must pick and choose according to what you want to do well. You cannot specialize in opposing elements, so the most popular builds split Fire/Air, Air/Water, and Fire/Earth. Fire, Air, and Water are primarily Evocation while Earth is primarily Conjuration.

    While a Sorcerer seems simpler to build than a Wizard, the extra feats and flexibility with spells that a Wizard has makes them a bit more forgiving in blunders while building. Sorcerers can do many things well, but you must decide at the onset what it is that you want to do well or you will be floundering by level 12.

    Therefore, I suggest that you look through these forums and decide WHAT you want to be. You've already mentioned that you want to focus on DPS, so I'd suggest Fire for your primary leveling element. Keep in mind that once you hit L16 content (Vale of Twilight) MoBs start to have fire resistance and weakness to Lightning, so Air is a good secondary choice. Once you get into Epic Content, Fire becomes your friend again while Air gives you survivability - Knockdown Immunity and Wings are your best friends until you learn to kite without them.

    For additional survivability, two levels of Paladin and/or two levels of monk are popular choices. Two levels of Paladin give you a bonus to your saves based on your Charisma modifier. Two levels of Monk gives you evasion and a couple of bonus feats to play with.


    Figure out what you want to be and let us know. Then I'll add more - for now I'm off to work for the day.

    Loving the sensai-esk quote I'm sorry for not clarifying earlier but I was indeed a drow PM and I rather enjoyed it up until lvl 18-20 where things just became abit harder to hit the saves or spell penetration etc and was looking for a more direct route....pew pew :P

    I've had abit of a look on the forums and am looking at a fire/air focused sorc but having abit of an issue deciding how to balance the enhancements accordingly so still playing there

    And I am looking at the survivability increase I just cant seem to land on how far I want to take it. been looking at the 18/2 sorc/pally or the 16/2/2 sorc/pally/monk

    Liking the added survivability of the split 16/2/2 but am abit concerned about not hitting meteor swarm so again abit stuck there :P need to figure out whats worth it in the end really so any help to that effect is much appreciated

    Also not a main concern but have been looking at destinys abit so advice there is appreciated too but at this stage looking at the draconic thingy

    All of the Enhancements at Level 20 are because you re-spec at Level 20.

    Most of the Fire Savant Tree you will take while leveling, including FB at Level 12. Because you will want to grab Wind Dance (Wings) at Level 20, you re-spec Fire Savant so that you don't have any Tier 5 enhancements.

    Thanks thesnoman ive had a look at the build and I think its the one im going to run with, I was playing with the feats abit though and was wondering how important the other metamagic feats are. Obviously Enhanced and maxamise are a must but is quicken and heighten important?

    Also just as a clarification ive heard a lot of people talk about "wings" from the air tree as a must so definetly doing it I just don't 100% get why its so important :P

    Quicken is only important for Reconstruct - and you can't live without it. Guaranteed without it that you'll fail your concentration check at exactly the WRONG time.

    Heighten - only important for Air Spells. You can swap it out for something else once you get through Shavarath and get your focus back on Fire Spells, but if you expect a non-heightened Chain Lightning to hit everything in the room on Elite Shavarath you'll be in for a surprise.

    Vibrant Purple Ioun Stone (Unsuppressed)

    I don't see much of a need to have a slew of Docents because you'll likely be leveling so quickly that they'll just take up a bunch of bank space, but some to consider:

    Elfcrafted Docent
    Blue Dragonscale Docent (Heroic)
    Quorforged Docent of Battle (Unsuppressed)
    Epic Blademark's Docent
    Ancient Gemstone (War Wizards)
    Stone Heart (War Wizards)
    Flawless Blue Dragonscale Docent (L25)

    At level 20 having the entire War Wizards set is helpful

    Having an Epic Blue Dragon Helm for your set at Level 25 is almost required

    Twilight is nice, but not necessary

    Buy level appropriate caster sticks with air/fire spell power and lore.

    Everything else is Gravy

    fair enough about the metamagics, id just swapped them out for spell focus evocation but not that big a change

    Ill look into how to get all the gear and stuff as I go so thankyou very much been a lot of help

    final sidenote: is the new wf, bladeforged thingy worth it instead? only saw it theo ther day wondering if theres much of a change

    Sure - Bladeforged allows you to start at Level 15, but you can't Heroic TR until you're level 28.

    You get better max Charisma than a standard Warforged at 18, but you suffer a penalty to Dexterity (-2) compared to Warforged.

    For a Savant Sorcerer, higher Charisma is always better, just adjust the starting stats in the above build to give you 8 Dex and 18 Charisma.
