    Default Bear Traps

    Hi All,

Was just wondering what your opinions were on the bear traps that litter eveningstar and Shadowfell?

Me personally hate them and find them irritating. I don't think they bring anything to the game apart from slowing gameplay down ( and in my own opinion make me want to avoid the adventure areas)

You can agree or disagree with me (thats what opinions are for!)

Im just a guy bored at work killing time till i can log on later

    Hey

I personally like traps in the game.

But I must admit, I like clever traps over "new traps".

New traps are bear traps and spell ward traps - those are, surely, effective, but frankly...

When I remember the pure oh-my-god-nooo!! moment of the first time I triggered the stair trap in Cursed crypt, or my very first experience with "hey, there is a secret door here" in Foundation of Discord, where I DID managed to jump out of the reach of the first set of blades and then was like - yeah, I dodged that... in which moment the second set of blades right under my feet triggered....

or many many other traps in DDO (and there are some really brilliant) ... all those orbs and bear traps are kinda.... boooooooring.

That is actually my beef with current endgame - I am missing the clever trap system we can see in heroic content, be it Ghola Fan!, Shavarath, Necropolis or many and many else.

As a player that USUALY dont play trappers, can I please ask Turbine team for more clever and joyfull traps instead of yet another boring spellward hidden behind Beartrap which is on top of booby trap?

I get the idea. Its a forest and you might find bear traps in a forest, but really, they're just irritating, annoying and unnecessary in wilderness zones.

Interestingly, bear ****, also found commonly in forests would've made a much better trap, if they HAD to include one. A grease-style knockdown and the siegebreaker debuff on a fail

Don't get me wrong i love traps in game. my main is a trapper and alot of my alts have trapper built into them. i just find the bear traps useless and annoying.

Fair play to turbine they added something new but in my opinion it was time spent on the wrong thing. (mabye fix the ladder bug? )

    I completely agree.

When I first stepped into the bear trap I thought that it was pretty cool. But now when I see that they are not able to make any other trap than spellwards and beartraps....yeah...I think it is annoying and lazy design.

I think they're fine in quests. The way the were used in the second druid quest, open a door...room full of guys, step in a bear trap, is great. It adds another element of danger

But wilderness zones, they provide nothing but an annoying time-out

to me, bear traps are no different than any other trap in the game. I don't have a problem with them and they do add a different element to the game. im impartial to wilderness zones. I believe the expansions are the only wilderness zones that have any form of trap. not saying anything bad about slayers, to each their own, but I prefer to just making my way to the quest and not get held up by traps.

I would prefer the kings forest traps were not bear traps and instead were spell wards.

Nothing says "lame" to me like my epic level character being threatened by a mechanical trap set by commoners.

Even a dragon can step into a beartrap of sufficient size. And never underestimate the commoners.

But in the wilderness they are of little enough use, though thematically appropriate.

    Guess your not familiar with D&D and such things like;

    Guards and Wards
    Spell of Warding
    Explosive Runes

Spellwards are just a Magical Device Trap and are VERY D&D.

I really like them ( bear Traps) . And agree with Jumble that the idea should be extended to include more type of trap.

for example Honey Trap, speed Trap, waste trap, mouse trap, snare trap, trap door, trappety trap

I think there should be more traps especially in common areas like the marketplace etc.

    i think rasolam sucks

I guess you're not very familiar with D&D and such things. Floating invisible traps that are non-magic, slow you non-magically, can't be seen with true seeing or see invisible or detect magic... have nothing what so ever to do with D&D. Nor the fact that it takes multiple dispells to remove them, that is not how Disjunction works at all, that is not how D&D works at all.

Yes, bear traps are retarded. These are things that are covered by spot checks, they aren't actually traps for things that are above animal-level intelligence.

On top of that they pin you for a ridiculous amount of time and do obscene amounts of damage which is not possible for something non-magical. Where these used in level 1 quests they might make some sense assuming you could just spot them, but the fact that a small piece of metal can pin people with 100+ STR scores that can literally pick up and hurl a bus is pathetic.

And needing epic level trap skill to disable something that you can disable with a freaking stick... Nnnnnnnn. The devs just have no freaking clue what they're doing. At all. It is literally painful playing DDO sometimes because of the sheer stupidity of what they've done to the game in recent years.

Lobster traps would be fun, your swimming underwater feeling all safe because of you underwater action when you find yourself stuck in a cage underwater.

You basicly sit there until you kill yourself or your trapper saves you.

Bear traps and spell wards were interesting and fun,but now have been over done. Leave them in MotU and come up with a new idea for the new quests.

Well I like spell wards. Especially the one that creates box-monsters from boxes around. They look cool and all.
And true - I hate bear traps. I dont know why tho. I guess compared to blades from walls, whirling things from floors, big fire killing you instantly or spellwards - bear traps seems just so normal and boring. Theyre even not fun to find on rogue.

I get annoyed with any trap that only uses stats instead of saves for their saves.

So you have the reflex saves to avoid a magic spell moving at the speed of light, but you fail a DEX roll and a drider can trip you? .... yeah no thanks, utter ****.
