    Default Monk/Rogue?

I am an 8th level monk and I was thinking about crossing into a Rogue, any commits or suggestions?

Yes. First it is unwise to multiclass on the fly. One should always plan out a.multiclass character before hand. Second, if you wanted rogue in there it would've been better to take it at level one for the stinkload of skill points you would've gotten with rogue level one.

so, you think I shouldn't cross at this time? I want to expand on my Monk and OI love the rogue class. I am aware that it would have been better, but what do you think? should I stay Monk for ever, or cross to another class? and if that what would you suggest?

I'll second MalkavianX's comment that it is a bad idea to multiclass if you haven't planned it out thoroughly before level 1.

That said, what do you want to accomplish by going rogue now? Do you want to do traps? Is it purely for the theme? What exactly are you looking to do?

I have to agree with the above, don't change horses in the middle of the stream. If you have a +1 heart of wood you could LR and change level one to rogue so you can keep your skills maxed but switching to rogue at your level would make it hard to have your skills up to par.

I thank you all for your comments and suggestions. I started the Monk with high hopes, and I really am not un-happy with the choice. That being said, I don't use the Monk to its full potential. I use the unarmed attack, and sometimes the actual attacks that I have, but mostly just the hand attack. I have the enhancements, but they just sit w/o being used. I normally play a rogue, and have enjoyed the Rogue through PnP and DDO. I have also played a PnP Monk from the 1st and 2nd Ed. PnP, and there are a lot of differences from PnP and DDO, a lot that goes unused. I will probably go ahead and cross to a monk. I am aware of the differences, but I don't feel like I am giving the Monk its full due. As a Rogue, i can use what I have learned and received from the Monk to enhance the Rogue to another level that I hope will create a more rounded Rogue. Saying that, does anyone know of a better class to cross into? All of my other characters (Toons) are straight class. I have no other multiclass characters, so this will be my first. I do not want to get rid of my monk because I have taken a lot of time and care to create it, I want to salvage what I have, and the only way I know how is to cross class it into something that will enhance the current character.

I understand what you mean. Sometimes the actual playstyle doesn't match up to the thematic expectations. I have had a hard time getting into the monk class for similar reasons. I just don't like the excessive button pushing. That said, you don't have to use every single ability offered by monk. You can just focus on the ones that work well for your playstyle (I don't know anything about your specific build, or a lot about monks for that matter, so I can't offer any further suggestions for this).

This is probably the best advice. Learn to use what you already have rather than turn it into something entirely different. Post your full build with starting stats, feats, and enhancements, along with your current playstyle and goals for the character. I'm sure those who are experienced with monk can help you refine your build and playstyle to suit you better.

Multiclassing at this point will still present a variety of problems. If you do decide to multiclass, I suggest you plan it out in depth first using the character planner. Start with what you already have done and then add whatever you want so you can see what you will end up with at 20. If you go rogue, you will have a hard time getting your trap skills up to match the level of traps you'll be facing. Towards 20, you might be able to get full ranks if you invest right, but this is something that needs to be planned out.

Even if you don't go rogue, plan out your multiclass. If you don't, you could easily end up with a character that is even less fun to play than it currently is for you.

Well out of all that, I got a couple pieces of info that has made me decide to stay a Monk. Yes, I need to learn better on what I have, change my enhancements to better fit my fighting style, and the other is I didn't take in account for dungeon level difference in trying to find traps or disabling them. Thank you for your sound wisdom. I will close this thread as answered in full with wisdom and knowledge that I can take home at the end of the day.

It's worth it if you are using a quarterstaff. Otherwise probably not unless you have a plan.
