    Default Shroud part 2 - Bosses need separation or not?

    Hi, I ran a Srhoud yesterday and we were using the usual tactic in phase 2 "gather all bosses at the same spot and prep them, then separate and kill" based on the fact that bosses could not be killed together.

    I was beating a boss next to all the others and suddenly I killed it. And the same happened for all the other bosses (first time kills). Don't you need to separate them to kill anymore? Seems like a bug because at phase 5 we couldn't kill them together until some point when one would suddenly die. Also, the crystal was crushed after the lion got back to life. (could be a DoT spell? dunno)
    My main server is Khyber. Have toons in almost every server for favor purposes. The Faltouts

    Answer, it seems, that it depends on the bosses spawned in part 2, since each have special buffing effects. The DDO Wiki article on the raid details what each lieutenant has for a buff. But their special anti-death protections will kick in if more than one of them is close enough to another.

    The ability to kill them may also depend on your player level and the effects, of course. A Heroic character might not have Vorpal for additional damage (these guys can't be Vorpaled, per se) but an Epic character might be spamming Vorpal hits more often than not as a passive ability.

    That's my take--I could be wrong. I've run several dozen but not hundreds of runs of this raid.

    Hi, here's some information based on my experience:
    - either the distance required to take down 2 bosses has been reduced, or it's not working properly (at least on elite).
    - for the crystal, there's a 1 or 2 seconds delay that allows you to destroy the crystal even though one of the bosses just respawned.. this will create funny situations where the raid advanced (you destroyed the crystal), but 1 or more bosses are back!

    So, Spen what you're saying is they can die when all 4 are together if a specific effect kills them?
    There was a blade barrier and me with Templar's Justice. And all 4 were within 2 meters. 2 members of the group that saw it said they shouldn't have died.

    Also, I've noticed that there was a different DM text when the kobold raised himself. That's when we thought that the bosses dying together should be U20 bug (or WAI, who knows). That's why I'm asking for others' opinions to determine if it has always been this way or it just started.

    I don't know. They should NOT be able to die if 2 or more or close together, ever. But if only their special buffs are about, then yeah, like any other buff, it may not stop a death blow--so long as they are death-protected.

    But yeah, it could also be a bug--but for now, a bug in our favor.

    And if one respawns---loot the chests and get the hell out of there! I would not want to be around to see the glitch that happens when Part 5 activates.

    Default One Boss is Key

    Actually was the accurate answer is, is that while all four are together none can die.

    One boss in particular will key the death of the them all. As soon as that boss is dead, than all the bosses can die.

    Trick is as long as that boss is close to the others he will not die. Once he dies, the rest can be in a group together and all die at once.

    The problem is, you never know who that key boss is.

    So you bring them all together and prep them. Once they are all prepped you separate them. Once the key boss gets separated from the others, he will die and the other three will follow if they are prepped.

    Each boss has an effective aura of a bit bigger than a Haste radius. The troll's one is double strength.

    Any boss inside four of those auras (including its own) stays alive at 1hp. That can be all four, or the troll plus two others.
    I don't have a zerging problem.

    Guys, I think you were too fast to answer misleaded perhaps by the title.

    I know that when they die once, then they can die together. That's why I said "First time kills". They died together the very first time.

    Panzer, I can't really understand your answer. First you say that there is a "key boss" and then you say the key boss can't die with the others making it non-key, then you say that if the "key" boss is killed all die simultaneously... I really am confused.

    Sirgog's answer makes more sence to me, though I believe that they were all 4 together. I could be wrong about it and maybe only 3 were together (heat of battle and such :P) and since noone encountered a similar issue...

    It wouldn't be the first time a game change of any kind directly affected a quest or encounter. Seems plausible that the latest update somehow nixed the protection from death effect the four mini-bosses receive when fighting together. I've still to do running with devils on my main this life to flag. Maybe I'll get lucky and get a Shroud in this life. I'd want to see this if I can manage it.

    Heh! Yeah, after 39 runs of the Shroud I got put on crystal duty for the first time ever the other day, and one of the suckers did indeed respawn just as I took it down. Took me quite by surprise! Everyone else was busy looting chests, and there I am frantically running for my life in a part of the maze I don't even know...

    We did not, by the way, run into any problems in part 5 as a result.

    Interesting fact: they don't stay at 1hp. If you can see their HP via monster manual achievement, you'll notice their HP actually drops into negative HP when you keep on hitting them.
