Is it time to get rid of the scroll, shard and seal requirement and make completed 'epic crafted items' drop as rare loot in epic chests? Or at least raise the chances of getting a scroll, shard or seal?
Epic crafted items are still great but ... not as great as they once were and the game has changed quite a lot since they were implemented.
Today while I was running Von 3 for XP I gained a 'dragon's eye' scroll. I looked up wiki for the description for an 'Epic Dragon's Eye' and I thought to my self... meh. I could loot better random treasure from an epic quest. Not that I'm cpmplaining, I'm just pointing out the original epic items aren't as 'great' as they once were.
It takes a lot of time and luck to pull a scroll, shard and seal for an epic crafted item. Is this mechanic still appropriate?
Epic crafted items served a purpose back before epic levels. They gave you a goal for end game; you couldn't get xp anymore so you ran raids for loot and epic mats.
But now all these years later we have a different situation. We have a cap of 28 soon to be 30, heaps of new quests with new loot, and easy access to augments. Named and random loot from epic quests is better than most of the available epic crafted items.
With the cap going to 30 the epic crafted items will lose their use-value as they are all level 20. They will be great for a few levels around 20-25 but will eventually become obsolete as you continue to level.
This new status of epic crafted items as 'mid' level items rather than 'end' level items means there are very few worth grinding for bcause of the amount of time it takes to pull the mats. Consider trying to make an Epic SoS - it could take many VoN runs. So many you will probably level to 23 and be better off doing CiTW for loot, which at least has a 20th completion reward.
Maybe its time to revamp the epic crafted items and make them not so rare to reflect their changing value.
(There must be some time/reward formula they teach at MMO school.)
