Default New cleric, 28 point soloing build?

any good builds for a 28 point human? looking more for solo play, is it better to go spellcaster or battle cleric ((In the long run, i don't mind it being challenging at first.)

From my point of view, caster cleric gives you alot and is more party friendly, if you feel like pugging or running with someone else. Boosting spellcraft and your dc's, most mobs wont be able to handle you. https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthrea...or-new-players This is a really nice build, i've had much fun with it.

If by battle cleric you mean fight with a weapon, my answer is a DEFINITE NO.

I still run a 28 pt human cleric, never TRd, in end game and I solo a lot.

I looked at the build in the link, and that is just about what I am. I don't know exactly since the servers are down and I cannot check. I know I don't care one iota about wands, that build has wand mastery in it. I definitely have something else besides wand mastery. I wonder what I took in its place?

Max wisdom, radiant servant, and spell penetration.

The poster has it right, Slay living, Implosion, Destruction, Blade Barrier are your friends. I also enjoy level drain for when they first save against Slay Living or Destruction.

When I know I am running a quest with extra planars, I switch out something for banishment. Banishment, nothing like watching three elementals go poof all at once.

With Divine Disciple, I think caster cleric is much better in the long run. Ivo linked EllisDee's Necro cleric; but for a first-lifer I prefer Evocation / light DiDi-specced, as it's a little less Spell Pen-dependent than Necro.

Here's a sample build focused on boosting Evo DCs while still being a strong healer:

There's some wiggle room with stats; e.g., you could lower CON for more INT for extra skill pts or more CHA for extra TUs.

The drawback to this build is I didn't invest anything into Spell Pen (apart from staying pure). So an alternative feat order would be: Emp Heal, Max, Emp, Quik, Heighten, SF:Evo, Spell Pen, GSP, ESP, with the last two feats being open; I'd also invest in the DiDi Spell Pen enhs. This works particularly well after you've done some ED grinding and can Twist in the Evo DC boosts from Dragonic & Magister. Some people like the Mental Toughness feats for the extra SPs and +1% crit chance per feat; but IMHO they're not worth the investment on a pure cleric.

Perversely, one of the strongest splashes on a light DiDi build is...FvS for Scourge, Just Reward, and Smiting.

The earliest levels will be the toughest (or at least annoying), since both your caster & melee DPS will be weak. Fortunately, they're also the fastest to level and a good healer can always find a PUG.

I'll add another vote for Light-based Divine Disciple for leveling. I have one and am having a lot of fun with it. Almost everything in the game is Evil and dies quickly to Light based magic.

I would tweak the feat order on Unbongwah's - I would grab Maximize & Empower at level 1 to get the most out of your SLAs immediately, and move Empower Healing down to level 9 or 12. I don't tend to like using EmpHeal on spells that cost less than it does (+10 SP cost for +75% more healing) and I would hold off on the Radiant Servant Positive Energy Burst SLA until I got at least both the Nimbus of Light and Searing Light SLAs at 3/3, as having both is a big deal due to the cooldowns. Holy Smite is a lot of fun too, mostly for the AoE damage but also for the Blindness debuff.

Just in case the OP isn't aware, there is a way to set which of your metamagic feats (all of the Empower/Maximize/Heighten stuff we keep throwing around) you want to automatically apply to any SLA or spell you have on your action bar. Once you have dragged the SLA or spell onto an action bar, you right click on the icon and it gives you a list of the metas you have that can be applied, and you can mouse over those and select "Always On" from the menu that appears. The metas can be very expensive on your regular spells so you may not want to apply the metas to those with those, which also means that usually you will not toggle on your meta feats for all spells. However SLAs ignore the extra SP cost of metamagic feats, so a Maximized Empowered Quickened Enlarged Searing Light SLA costs the same 6 SP to cast as one with no metas applied, and does a lot more damage, at twice the range, and can't be interrupted. By contrast if you did the same with a normal spell version of Searing Light it would cost you 8 (base) + 25 Maximized + 15 Empowered + 10 Quickened + 10 Enlarged = 68 SP for the same effect. This is the main reason why SLAs are so amazing.

With the free Heart +0 today (11/12/13) I really should respec my old cleric's (yes multiple).

Ok, I understand the basic differences between Evoc vs. Necro Cleric and this is why you need Spell Penetration for Necro Cleric's.

    Empower
    Maximize
    Emp. Healing
    SF
    GSF
    Heighten

    a) Why do Evoc Cleric's need Spell Pen?

    b) Further, can you get a reasonable Spell Pen. to bother with in Epic content without PL's?

This makes Spell Pen. and G. Spell Pen. really tight fits. I am thinking (my reasoning which could be totally off) people take both Spell Pen.'s for Soundburst, G. Command and M. Hold if Evoc. based? If not, I will probably take Mental Toughness a couple times for an Evoc. based cleric. Really just trying to figure out if I should invest in Spell Pen. if Evoc. based.

Conversely, if Necro based is better solo at 20+ I will definitely go Necro based. I do solo 90% of the time because of my time constraints which makes Epic content a pain to play in

Mostly for Implosion, although it's also helpful if you use Gtr Command or Energy Drain (Necro spell, but no DC check, only SR).

I don't use wands either; those AP were spent to make heal scrolls more effective. (It's technically "Wand & Scroll Mastery.")

Especially for 28 point solo builds, I cant understand suggesting casters...you'll be harder pressed to pump your stats for DC casting, and you'll be harder pressed to make your SP last without groupmates to help spread the DPS load. Caster-melee hybrids really are the choice nowadays....melee is useful with a relatively small investment, letting you focus your caster efforts only when you really need it.

I'd suggest a Greataxe-wielding 18 Cleric/2 Pal, for Martial profs and saves. You'll do your own melee damage, and supplement it with SLAs and casting, plus of course buffs and heals in the usual Cleric toolbox. 16 STR/CON/WIS (i think, cant run the numbers right now). Max out your DD tree for light/evo, and spread the rest through RS for heals and Human racial stuff. You wont have enough AP for anything in your /2 splash but that's OK, you'll get by just with PA/Cleave/GC for your melee, and then take Max, Emp, Quicken, Emp Heal, and SF: Evo to boost your casting, mainly your SLAs for which metas are free.

Searing Light and Nimbus SLAs dont have saves, so you can use those for ranged/supplemental damage, and then Holy Smite/Flamestrike SLA for AOE, mixed in with Sunbeam/Bolt for more burst DPS when you want to spend the SP on non-SLA spells.

Cleave, HS, GC, Flamestrike would be an awesome AOE rotation.

    I disagree.
