ok just made 16.. and noticed a topic I thought was dead came back to life..if but briefly... oh the irony!
Alright, a bit to talk about on my trip to 20th.
First off, I did a Straight BB/Streak, minimal farm runs, which ended the life with 200 elite/208 hard (Yah, I somehow botched the elite streak in the market, not even sure what I did) but none the less, each quest pretty much only once.
I put up Auto-Groups as much as I could, when acceptable.
Notable times I did not Autogroup:
Sorrowdusk, after going to the second part, since I was pretty much following a BB plan, I would leave, level up, and return to this pack, so, once we got past the second part of the island, I stopped putting up Auto-groups for the quest.
Tangleroot: same reason as Sorrowdusk.
All the packs like the above pack, pretty much, I auto-grouped at the start, but by the half way point, just took it down.
I never put BYOH in the tag line, I normally put "BB/Streak" and "come prepared" and in some cases I tried to be funny like "I enjoy long walks though the madness" for quests like Into the Rift.
I meleed the way up, using dwarf axes, I charged into the fights, and barely healed much, my wife played a barb, just to make things fun and more a challenge for me.. How I love her so.
My feat choices were: Dwarf Axe, Power Attack, Cleave, Great Cleave, Extend, Imp Crit Slash, Quicken, so I was not much of a healer that is true.
Anyway, my personal tack on things.
I will say, while in 20 levels, of which took me a few months to do, (I level very slow) I never had anyone berate my ability to play, or anything, I did not have anyone fuss that I could not heal, or that I was doing it wrong, and make no mistake, people died in my groups, I died, my wife died, strangers died, a lot of people died as I was leveling.
Most players I ran with, saw that I was a "War Priest" and really, did not seem to voice any issues with this fact, on that regard, it was a pleasing run up, even if getting into the "caster" part of classes was a bit tricky, as I just spent all my previous lives as a melee player. So that too was some adjustment.
Anyway, a few things:
I did not heal much but did heal. If I saw someone going down, I threw them a heal spell as much as I could, while doing the quest, I did not watch red bars, but I did not reserve my sp to just myself, if it was in my ability to heal someone, then I healed them, that is what doing a quest with other people is about, you cover each other.
Regardless if I ran most quests Dwarf Axe first, and just ran through them like I was a melee with a a cleric icon, but the truth is, it was always in my power and ability to heal the people around me, so I did so. I did not view it as being a "healer" I viewed it as the power of my class, it was no different then the ability to kill a mob or pick a door, cast a DD, or drop a fire wall, the ability to cast a heal spell and keep the group moving forward was an ability of my class, so I used it, when I could, as I could, as much as I could, to get things done. In the end, no matter what you may say or do with your class, and you are free to play it as you like, but I feel that if you do not utilize all your abilities open to you to pull your group as a whole ahead, then you are simply not playing your class as well as you could be playing it.
Anyway, it has been a good run.. next life will be FvS. The build is going to be 2 (Melee pally/fighter, not sure yet) and 18 FvS.
May the RNG ever be in your favor.
