Default why does character loading take so long?

Is it just me or does the first time you load a character after logging in take a long time? Sometimes it can take 5+ minutes. My computer is pretty beefy so I'm pretty sure that's not the issue. Is there anything that can be done to improve loading?

Try Wanesa's DDO Preloader. It works quite well.

Get a SS hard drive Its a little pricey (though, of course, the price point is always coming down), but I'd say its probably the best investment you can make right now to improving your overall computer performance, not just for DDO.

Black Friday is coming up in a month, put it on your calendar.

I ended up throwing the game on a flash drive. I used to have to wait 3-5 minutes (still do for Lam) but after I put it on the flash drive load times more than halved.

This. I can not think of a game which profits more than DDO by using a SSD.
