Even if they left it as the description says it doesn't mean they cannot make the effect proc 80% or at least 50% of all crits. Anything lower feels like a slap in the face.

But if it really has to be nerfed i'd prefer it to proc on all 19's and 20's only.

    This sucks.

It's like when Terror and Tharrak Wraps were nerfed because of random loot Nightmare weapons.

I was planning on running a Rogue Acrobat using Staff of the Shadow and Dreamspitter as main weapons.

They should give random loot "Lesser Life Stealing" or whatever, and leave named items alone.
Also, restore the old Nightmare to Terror and Tharrak Wraps (calling Improved Nightmare or whatever).

If I were to nerf it, not that I would, I'd do something like this

100% chance of a single negative level every on critical. Your critical multiplier is reduced by 1 to a minimum of 2.

This maintains the function of the ability, but reduces overall dps if you have stacking crit multiplier bonuses. The Lam change takes a sledge hammer to the ability taking it from very useful in EE and unnecessary in anything lower to mostly useless in EE and complete trash in anything lower. I get the impression that the ability was nerfed only to maintain some sort of balance in EE. I'd argue that EE has it's own set of issues and nothing should be rebalanced to accommodate EE. EE should be changed so that accommodation isn't necessary. It's like modifying abilities gamewide for a better pvp experience. You just don't do it. The mobs already heal back neg levels at a very fast rate. Should the playerbase as a whole be punished because devs feel that recovery rate isn't providing enough immunity?

100% agree. I wouldn't use life drain weapons if the change went live.

But... But... think of the poor poor people who are sad because their greensteel weapons don't make them top tier DPS. (Yes, *that* was the excuse that the forum losers used to get nightmare weapons nerfed off the face of Ebberon.)
Things that if Turbine went all EXTREME PREJUDICE™ on, would actually make the game fun again.:
    • Giving us the racial PrE’s we were promised, before rolling out DDOStore™ Enhancement Trees.
    • Fixing physical defense for Rangers and Rogues. It’s ridiculous that you’re better off wearing Heavy Armor and ignoring your innate feats on these classes.
    • Cannith Crafting.
    • Update the named loot to put them on the same system.
    • Fixing the Cannith Challenges so that they can be 6 starred without incredible luck or store bought items.
    • Fixing all challenges to give us decent XP and ingredient returns for the unreasonable time we have to spend in most of them.

Now that we've got some responses by the dev's to some posts I was hopeful that we might get a response on this issue.

Any news on this and on the average proc rate? Did anyone test it again?

This is a serious nerf to a lot of named weapons: Dreamspitter, Dreampiercer, Nightmare, Sacrificial Dagger, Staff of the Shadow

all of which were designed with life stealing procing on every crit and which were far from being overpowered. I hope they don't change the Soul Eating effect from the Gravewrappings too. Can anyone confirm this?

This is a perfect example of how there is a lack of version control in this game....one dev does a change to "reflect" a what the description in the text says, yet the previous dev made the change to the item do to change in game mechanics previously.

To the Devs: We need our nightmares untouched, with the hyper-inflated mobs on EE it is the only effecient way to kill most mobs....and it will only get worse. Please reconsider.

They're doing it to fix the lootgen Comyrian items, yes?

Ok, that's all well and good. But why make a change to fix one set of items without attempting to fix a change of effect in another? Comyrians aren't high-end, endgame weapons. Nightmares are. Dreamspitters are. People run CiTW and FoT countless times to get those weapons. And then they run them *more* to get the comms to upgrade them.

"Will function as described." Fix random lootgen. Okay, cool. Then change Nightmares, Sacrificial Daggers, Dreamspitters, and all the like to say "wil proc level drain" to preserve their current functionality. They're endgame weapons. They *should* be better than lootgen. They were made and put into the game with the mechanism working this way in mind. Change their wording to preserve this and avoid screwing the players that put their time and effort into making them the best they can be.

But that was when Dreamspitter and the various versions of the Staff of Shadows were the only weapons that had Life-Stealing.

Remember Update 9 was the same time that Cannith Crafting was released. When Cannith Crafting was on Lamannia, what was the Shard everyone made and put on high crit items? The Life Stealing Shard. And the Shard was never released. They said it would not be released until they balanced it. It was never balanced.

Then someone else in Turbine made a couple of high crit Life Stealing weapon for MOTU, several updates later. I'm surprised this didn't get nerfed the same time that the Nightmare was nerfed, along with the Terror. In fact, the reason Lifestealing is being nerfed now is exactly the same reason Nightmare was being nerfed then. After Gensai moved on, someone messed with the loot tables and designed weapons that striped the uniqueness of a few weapons and put the effects on high crit items that made the high crit weapons overpowered.

    It's the exact same thing.

From what I saw on Lamania they are now useless. The proc-rate is looking like 1/3 of the time.

Maybe they let us trade in the Nightmares for Ghostbane?

No. Ghostbanes are OP. Nerf them! Nerf them from orbit, it's the only way to be sure.
    It's definitely an N-word.
