Default Yulthoon Thrusted Us All to Death

I don't ever remember seeing this before. I was in a pretty fine PUG, as these things go, running the Harbinger chain on Elite. We get to the Final Edition, the big fight with Yulthoon.

Everyone knows the score, hiding behind the pods without direction. Nailing the Beholders as soon as they pop. Then we get to waves of Flayers and Yulthoon starts hitting us with the cone of multiple rays/waves that just tear through us. The hordes of Mind Flayers make it impossible to hold a covered position, and some of my party members seemed to think it couldn't be hidden from at all.

We wipe twice, and both times I still had plenty of charges on my Pale Lavender Ioun Stone, and I was raised a few times before the wipes.

The combat log calls this his "Mind Thrust."

Why don't I remember this? Is it an old thing that just seems to have taken a power boost like the MOB arties Lightning Spheres?

Is there anything that does defend against this Mind Thrust?

If you're talking about what I think you're talking about, you stop that attack by destroying the three pods that appears underneath Yaulthoon while he's charging it up. Otherwise... yeah, it hurts a lot.

Breaking the pods that appear in front of him right before he uses this attack is critical. It also stuns him for a long time.

So we all spread out to the three nearest (to him) pods to ensure those ones are destroyed?

And get a will save item, just in case. K.

I'm glad we had this talk.

    Thanks!

The pods are pretty easy to recognize. They don't appear until he is about to start using this attack. Also, they are not the same pods that you hide behind that he breaks to stun himself. They are like the pods that the taken emerge from in the earlier quests in the chain.

Yes, and they break easy, with one hit. I think there are 4 of them, and they appear in a little semicircle right in front of him. When you see this happen, drop whatever else you are doing, and hustle up there to break them.

Definitely drop whatever else is going on. These pod thingies are priority when they appear.

This must be one of those things that someone else always took care of, or we just did by accident without knowing.

Just when you think you know the lay of the land, you trip over something.

Thanks again guys! And if any of you guys were girls, well... thank you too.

IIRC they appear when Yaulthoon hits 20%. All difficulties, only really relevant on Elite.
    I don't have a zerging problem.

    I'm zerging. That's YOUR problem.
