But, I'm not going to argue the finer points of such tings with you. If you feel that the addition of another idea in your thread is somehow a threat to your idea - go for it. I'm sorry you don't have enough faith in the idea that you feel threatened by any secondary ideas that may wander in, and feel the need to lash out at them. Sorry as well for stepping on whatever delicate toes you may have, such was not my intent.

    Have a nice thread.

Pausing the buff timer addresses a very specific problem with the duration of ship buffs. No one wants to get to the entrance of a long quest when their buffs are ticking down. Extending the timer to 6 hours addresses that issue and allows groups to run multiple quests on the same set of buffs at the same time.
6 hours is too long. may as well as ask for ship buffs the entirety you are logged on or until death. some people don't want long ship buffs because they like to test their builds. pausing buffs in public places saves a lot more time than you would realize. im not necessarily opposed to extending ship buffs more than an hour, but I think I would rather see baby steps going into that direction first and see how other players like it and maybe other reasons for not wanting them extended so long could arise.

An addition of another idea is not a threat to my idea. It's an opportunity for us to debate the merits of our ideas. I have attacked your idea on the basis that while it is superior to the current system, my idea addresses all of the issues that yours does while giving additional benefits that aren't gamebreaking. The proposal that ship buffs pause in public areas is good. The extension of the base duration of buffs is better.

Ship buffs have been around for a long time. I feel we're only getting one bite at this apple. I feel I have made my case for 6 hour buffs in this thread. I don't think the case for a pause of 1 hour buffs over 6 hour buffs has been made. I don't really think a legitimate effort has been made.

If there is any doubt about buffs lasting, it's rebuff time. A 6 hour timer would allow just about all players to just play through their session and not worry about buffs unless they had died.

I'd say death or logout myself. I don't see why not.

But ANYTHING longer/better would be welcomed.

I used to be against the idea, once upon a time.

These days I say "Turbine? Just do it already".

I might be mistaken, but im pretty sure it wouldnt require a new mechanic.

There is only one problem with this proposed change:

People already hesitate to rebuff for reasons of keeping a party waiting.

If they die, and the rest of the party doesn't, there's no "oh, lets all go rebuff, timer is low anyway", it's "suck it up, we're all still fine".

Exaggerated as that may be presented, it is a concern just as notable as the current need to rebuff frequently.

Rather, wouldn't Diablo-style recall/return portals + extended duration, be the ideal solution?
The main issue seems to be getting to and from the ships, AND having to do it every 50 minutes.

Especially what with being unable to get to Eveningstar easy without a key or relogging/hall of heroing, after guild shipping.

It's easy enough to remove ship buffs on demand using the /death command.

I agree wholeheartedly with OP and Teh Troll. My hair caught on fire typing that, but it's true. A 6 hour timer would lead to more PUGs, as there would be less waiting time. People who have limited time would be more inclined to group as that takes a good 5 or 6 minutes on a GOOD day. They would still expire when you die, and as another benefit would cut down a little bit on lag due to all the teleporting, so really it's a cost effective way to do this. Not extending the buffs will kill off all kittens, Turbine, WHAT HAVE YOU GOT AGAINST KITTEHS!

Sorry, that got weird at the end, but you catch my drift.

Default Portable Ship buffs stored in a cookie that represent the Ships' buffs.

I would pay for tokens/cookies that the first mate sells that represents all the buffs on my ship. Can be eaten after ship buffs run out or if death anywhere in game.

Usable anywhere and bam! I have a fresh set of buffs. So if they run out or I die in a Dungeon I can get them back.

Only purchasable by the Guild members, Officers and Leader and are BTC. Visitors cannot buy the tokens/cookies

You suggestion seems like a lot of work. I'm proposing a flat increase in timers because I think it's a tiny change for the devs.

As far as individual deaths in a party you have a point. My counter is that you can rebuff and join in progress. Most groups can get through the initial stages of a quest shortmanned. You may miss some action, but you're not missing any xp in most quests if you hustle. I run and join ip LFMs all the time, so I may be missing something.

Once you're done with the LOD chain, you can run to Eveningstar without a key. The fact that you can't get to Estar to rejoin a group is a separate issue from duration of ship buffs.

/signed. 2 hour or longer airship buffs could be a reward for the 80+ level Guilds.
